I hope that the following is of interest.
I am researching one William Bursey "Citizen and Free Mason" of London (? -1686 and actually a Coachmaker and first Master of the Coachmakers Company on its foundation in 1677) whose daughter Elizabeth married c.1679 one Samuel Floyer, Gentleman, of St Clement Danes, aged about 27.
In "The Visitation of London begun in 1687" (Harleian Society 2004)this Samuel Floyer is listed as the third son of Richard Floyer of Hints, Staffordshire (died in 1679 aged 77)
The coat of arms detailed therein is the same as the Floyer arms depicted on your website and the entry gives a lot of family details as Richard had four sons. The reference to "John Bursey" is in error - it was "my" William.
Another son Matthew is noted as a former High Sheriff of Staffordshire. Look up Floyers of Hints Hall - at least 3 were Sheriffs!
The London connection seems to arise as another brother, Peter, signed off the visitation. He was a Goldsmith living in Aldersgate Ward.

All contributions are welcome, particularly if you can help me sort out the McCallums. There seems to be rather a lot of them!

Update on my earlier note -- I believe the books I have belonged to R.K. Floyer who was a government official of some kind concerning trade and or taxation in the Port Harcourt area of Nigeria around the late 1920's and early 1930's. He may have been a causative factor in the Aba womens' riots. Any information would be welcome and I would like to discover if it is possible that he married Ella B. Lindsay?

Recently acquired a copy of Bannerman's Birds of West Africa, 8 vols with a few having notes from a previous owner whose name appears to be Floyer. No first name given. Does anyone know of a Floyer who was interested in the birds of West Africa, or who possibly lived there? My suspicion is that the person lived there, for most of these notes indicate to what page number one should turn to see a drawing or painting of the bird discussed in the text. The publication dates are 1931-1951 for the volumes in question.

Hello!
According to the Ebden family tree book we descend from Thomas Flyer(Purchased Hints Hall,Hints,Staffs,1601) via Richard Floyer 1603-1679 by his second marriage to Eleanor Babbington through their son Mathew Floyer 1646-1715/16 and Anne Scott 1650-1707.By their son John Floyer birthdate 1683 (accords with your records) but a deathdate we have of 1757,marrying Elizabeth Bearcroft (1741-?).Their son Peter Floyer (died 1786) of Marsh Gate,Richmond married Dorothy Girle.Half-sister of Caroline Powys the diarist.Their daughter Elizabeth Floyer 1760-1836 married Penyston Portlock Powney MP for Old Windsor and Verdurer of Windsor Forest. He was of Ives Place,Maidenhead. The Powneys of Old Windsor were granted their coat of arms by Charles II.Their daughter Elizabeth Powney married Captain Sydenham Teast Wylde, late 7th Hussars, son of Sydenham Teast Wylde,Rector of both Burrington and Ubley,Somerset, friend of the celebrated Hannah More.Their daughter Elizabeth married my great great grandfather the Reverend James Collett Ebden,Fellow of Gonville and Caius College,Head master of Ipswich school etc.. in 1828.
I hope that this will be of interest.
The Floyer/Flyer tree as we have it starts with Richard Flyer 1429- father of Thomas Flyer, married to Elizabeth?

I would like to thank you for the effort you have made in your research. The notes and sources information is really outstanding. I found your information while researching Armstrong's that married Carew family daughters. If you have any living sources for Armstrong's I would appreciate any information you are willing to share. I am trying to link from Scotland/Ireland to US in 1750's, three Armstrong brothers William, John and Lanty (Lancelot). I am also trying to determine correct parents for the brothers. Again thank you for all of your research efforts.

I was just researching some history about where I live in West Stafford, Dorchester when I came across the history of Stafford House and the floyer and floyer-acland family. I find the whole history of ancient families interesting and have been researching the families that use to and still do own the manor houses and land around Dorset. I love the site and think that it is full of very interesting facts. Thankyou for providing everybody with this great insight to your family history!

A Will, that of my kinsman Joseph Scott of Great Barr and Tamworth, Co. Staff., Gent., dated 1736, mentions the testator having had his life saved by a housekeeper "after Lady Floyer`s barbarous useage of me" -- ??!
Any idea as to which Lady Floyer or what on earth happened ?
Joseph Scott was born about 1670 and died in 1740 at Sutton Coldfield.

My mum has two plates which were bought off my great-aunt in 1971. We don’t know how long she had them or where she got them from. She was born in Dorchester and was in service somewhere in the same area around 1910 onwards.
The plates are identical and bear a coat of arms which feature two shields beneath a stags head with an arrow in the mouth pointing downwards. The shield on the left has been identified by the College of Arms as that of the Floyer family from Floyer Hayes in Devon. They describe it as “Azure a chevron between three arrows points downwards Or flighted Argent, and in chief for difference a label of three pointsö explaining that a label used in this way generally indicates an eldest son during the father’s lifetime, the arrow heads were silver but are now black. They say this design is not an official record in this colouring. The shield on the right represents the family of the wife and features a mullet (five pointed star with straight rays) over a silver crescent moon, now black, on a blue background. The College of Arms has no record of this coat of arms.
The College of Arms says the plate is listed (but not illustrated) in DS Howard’s Chinese Armorial Porcelain (1974) on page 824 as “Floyer accollee c.1760". When I had them valued they were thought to be around 1810 but this might be wrong.
I was hoping you could shed some light on which member of the Floyer family the left hand shield represents and do you know anything about the identity and the shield of his wife, when did they marry and where did they live. I see from your website some Floyers lived at Stafford House in Dorset and thought, with my great-aunt’s Dorset connections, that the plates might have come from there.
I would be happy to send a photo of the coat of arms from the plate.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. If you want to ring me, the telephone number is 01873-860440.

Our gt-gt-grandma was Hannah Wrangle wed to John Vincent 1813 Spalding. Her parents were John Wrangle who at 51 wed (2) Jane Waite, dau. John and Jane. That`s what we know for sure. We thought these might be Jane Floyer and John Waite, but now we`re not so sure. The Wrangle were upper-class trades and businessmen and their land often ran alongside that of WAITE in Boston. Any help would be gratefully received. The Annals of FLoyer are fascinating.

I'm wondering if you have any information about the origins of this Reesby Hall, and how it got its name. It is not a common surname.
