I am currently researching an incredible work of calligraphy housed in the Harvard Houghton library written by an Abiah Holbrook, Writing Master at the South Writing School in Boston. According to University records, the first Holbrook arrived in Massachusetts in 1634 -- a Thomas Holbrook, with his son John, aged 11, (who would later be captain and a prominent citizen in Boston). I have a two sources that led me to believe this may be true. First in John's Rev. War file he claims he was born June 14, 1762. His pensions application was sworn by Phillip Higgins. Who I beleive is the brother of John's wife Sarah Higgins. Phillip claims to have known John for 72yrs. and that we was born near the farm of John's father.( No mention of John's father's name) The second source is the "Maine Families in 1790" Vol. 4. pg. 127-129 Phillip Higgins b. 1727 had a daughter Sarah who married "HOLBROOK" . It goes on to say that "an Abizah Holbrook family lived next to Phillip Higgins in 1790.

Anthony Coombs of Maine married Hannah Holbrook b. ca 1774.
They married in Maine; Georgetown, we think, but there are several pedigrees for Hannah and they are all different; submitted by different LDS members, I suppose. Some people just look for an name and someone who married that name, but don't look at dates and places. My Hannah Holbrook married Anthony Coombs, b. 1761 in Brunswick, ME and Hannah born ca 1774. There may be a lot of Hannah's but only one married Anthony Coombs, They named a son Anthony Abiezer Coombs.....called Beezer by family.
