Unfortunately my surname "Black" was not among those listed as "researched". My ancestor James Black and his spouse Mary Latimer emigrated to Canada along with Sarah Black, John Black and Isabella Black in 1847 from Dungannon, Tyrone. We have traced the family from that time, but are interested in tracing it back from that time as well. It seems likely that the James listed in the Tithe book from 1823 is our ancestor or a close relative. Any other information on our family's history in Ireland would be very welcome. Thank you,

I am trying to find out more about my great Grandmother, Anna Eliza McCullough's family. She came to America about 1847 along with her Mother, Fanny McCullough and two of her sisters, Fannie & Hannah. Anna Eliza married my great Grandfather, John F. Smith, in Michigan on 4 Jul 1849. They had 2 sons who were born in Michigan before everyone, including all of the above mentioned McCulloughs, moved to Iowa.
Mary Ann McCulloch (?) another of Anna'z sisters had married a George Findley, also from Drummond, County Tyrone in Feb 1838. Instead of going to America, they had migrated to Australia in 1841.
What I need is to find out more about James McCullough, her Father, who died there in Ireland in 1838 at the age of 38. We think that James & Fanny McCullough had at least two more children, a son & a daughter, but, nothing to base this on.
If you know someone who might help me with my search for my "roots", please let them know that I need help!
Thank you,
Jim Steele, Sr.

Name: Kevin Bogle <boglekevin@gmail.com> Date: 2009-04-03 Surnames researching in Co Tyrone Bogle Have you found any usful information yes Comments:
In particular, I am trying to find a church in Strabane, and in general, I am trying to find out about any Bogles who lived in County Tyrone between 1715 and 1750. I found this paragraph in a book published in 1839:
"John Bogle, one of the family of Bogles Hole (originally "Hold"), near Glasgow, m. [married] Mary Graham, a sister or dau. [daughter] of the last Earl of Menteith, and during the Rebellion of 1715, having been obliged to leave Scotland on account of his religious opinions, settled in or near Strabane, in the co. Tyrone, Ireland. He acquired a small property called Ballycommon, or Balwaggie, half a mile from Strabane, and d. [died] there. The tombstone of himself and his wife is in the churchyard of Strabane."
Was there only one church in Strabane in 1839, when this book came out? Because the book says that this John Bogle and his wife were buried in THE churchyard of Strabane, not just A churchyard. If there was only one church in Strabane in 1839, which one was it? And is it still there? The church would have had to have been there since at least the 1700s, if he was buried there. I don't know if it would have been a Catholic or Protestant church; coming from Scotland, I would assume that John Bogle was a Presbyterian.
Also, I'm assuming that "Ballycommon" is just an error and that it's really "Ballycolman", which is just south of Strabane. Has anyone else ever seen a reference to a Ballycommon, or Balwaggie?
Anybody have any ideas as to the identity of this church? Thanks for your help, everyone!

This is some of the information I have which I'm using to find family out there
Our grandad Arthur was born on the 22nd September 1888 and was born and lived at 47 Craister Street,Stockton his dad was called Charles and he was a ship caulker, his mother was Elizabeth formerly Kelly I had her name as Kelley with two e's.
Our grandma was called Mary Jane she was born on the 12th August 1897 she was born and lived at 22 Dean Street, Stockton on Tees her dad was called Michael Tracey. Her mother was called Catherine formerly Carrol !!Michael was an iron puddler, on the certificate an X marked Catherine's signature now she could have just been uneducated or it could be the rumour of a tinker, I hope to find out.Her surname could be spelt wrong if she couldn't read or write
Arthur was the youngest child of six.He also had 2 half siblings from his dads first marriage.
Charles McSorley was one of 4 boys and his parents came from Kilskeery, Tyrone, two went to America and so there is family out there now !!
As I didn't know Catherine Traceys maiden name until now, I haven't got any news of her yet.Michael Tracey came from Ireland, but settled in Consett, Durham.

Do you know anything about the family of these brothers who came to the US in the first five years of the 19th century? Do you know if Margaret Birney Campbell, their sister, remained in County Tyrone and do you have any information on her descendants?
SEE INFORMATION BELOW:
Welcome to the BIRNEY FAMILY PAGE. My branch of the Birney Family came over from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. They left from the Port of Londonderry in the summer of 1801. Hugh Birney came over from Ireland with two of his brothers, William and Robert. They landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The eldest brother John came over with his wife and children in 1804. The reason why we think John did not come over with his brothers is because his wife was with child at the time. We know that their father John Sr. was still alive when the three brothers left in 1801, it is possible that he stayed behind to take care of their father. We do not know if their mother was alive when they left. The sister Isabella (Margaret) stayed behind in Northern Ireland, and married a Robert Campbell, and had two sons. We think that the family lived around Fivemiletown, Northern Ireland, but are not sure. Hugh Birney Stated in a letter before he died that he was born and raised in County Tyrone, Ireland.
I am not the only person researching the John Birney Sr. family. The information on the descendents of John Birney Sr. has been gathered over the years, by many people researching the Birney Line.

I would greatly appreciate any information regarding Rachel Monteith's parents, she was born around 1755 in Tyrone Co., Ireland. She was married to William Cuthbertson, DOB 3/17/1740. They were married in Tyrone Co. in January, 1772. They left Ireland for America on the Roebuck in May, 1773, arriving in Wilmington, Delaware in August 1773. They stayed some time in Pennsylvania. Then they were moved by Rachel's uncle Nathaniel Monteith to Rachel's mother's home in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina (there is no reference to Rachel's mother or father's name). They stayed some time with her mother then moved to the Eastern part of the county, probably Union Co. NC. The following Monteiths are buried at Hopewell Church Cemetery (Hopewell Church is located in the Northwestern part of the county near River Bend:
Alexander Monteith - died 11/15/1775
Jane Monteith - died 02/27/1812
William Monteith - died 08/08/1824
Hannah Monteith - died 11/22/1844
Franklin Lee Monteith - died 02/21/1855

Also, if anyone has any information on William Cuthbertson's parents, etc. that would be most helpful..

I am trying to find information on my family. The information I have is this: They lived in the Cookstown area.
James Glassey married Annie Hamilton. I do not know the exact amount of children born to them but was told that there were at least 4 sons. The only name I know for sure was a son born in 1843 named James Glassey. James emigrated in 1867 (according the the US Census) He was a Protestant. He was a shoemaker. He was married in 1870 in Philadelphia to Mary Jane Martin who he supposedly met on the ship from Northern Ireland. They dropped the "y" and made the name Glasse in Philadelphia. James and Mary Jane had 8 children all born in Philadelphia.

Trying to find information on Lanty and Margaret McCann. They came to America in 1789, coming to Berkley Co., Va., and in 1811 were in Pendleton Co., Ky. The following was taken from an autobiography written by their son in Missouri, in 1875. I am the youngest child, save one, of Leanty and Margaret McCann,
who emigrated from Tyrone county, Ireland to America in the year 1789.
They were accompanied by my grandfather Arthur and grand mother Catharine Taggert,
with two uncles of the latter name, and settled in the county of Berkly, Virginia,
and shortly there after removed to the county of Mason, Kentucky; from thence
they removed to the central portion of the latter named state, what is now known
as Braken county, and where the county seat, Brooksville, now sands;
at which place the subject of this sketch was born on the first day of May, 1800,
consequently will be 75 years on the first of May, 1875. When in my eleventh year
my father and family removed to Pendleton County, near the county-seat, Falmouth.
My grand mother still remained with him , she, save one son, being the only survivor
of her family, and when she died; in 1825, was 118 years old. In 1820 my father died,
leaving his third wife a widow, by whom he had three children, two of whom now live in Missouri.
Any information on either of these families would be so helpful. Thank you in advance.
Nancy

Hoping to find information/vital records for Mullaghfurtherland area. Alexander ORR and Agnes STUART were married circa 1839, probably Presbyterian. Daughter Isabella born 1840. The family emigrated in 1846 and family tradition has it that three children died of cholera either on board ship or when the family reached New York City. They made their way to Canada and settled in Milton, Ontario, not far from Toronto.
Agnes Stuart had a brother John who was still living in Furtherland when she died in Canada circa 1900. According to her obituary, brother John was living on the family property. Any information would be welcomed.

I am an American fifth generation descendant of Alexander Lowry and Jane Bates of Glencush Donemana Tyrone, I can't figure out how all these counties and towns all fit together. The couple married and immigrated to Aroostook County Maine in 1839. Am looking for anyone interested in this couple to email me. I'm coming home to County Tyrone soon and when I do, I will be the first from their line to return!

I am seeking information on the decendants of JOSEPH HILL born aound 1800. Joseph had ten children:
ANDREW
JAMES
DAVID
FRANCIS
SAMUEL
JOSEPH
COLLINS
JANE
RACHEL
SARAH ANN
Almost all the males lived in BOSTON MA. US, Andrew,Frances David,Joseph and Collins died there. James was there at some stage but died in Co.Tyrone. The family were fairly well off many of them owning businesses. James was said to have had a bakery in POMEROY.
Rachel married unknown McKeown, Jane married William Mckeown and may have emmigrated to Australia. Sarah Ann married Joe Hamilton.
All Joseph's children were born between 1820 and 1855. I'm sure they must still have decendants living in Co.Tyrone. I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on this family.

Searching for John McMenamin born Co. Tyrone (place name sounding like Karman) abt. 1835 - father James mother Margaret (this is listed on immigration papers). Married Alice Hazzard (born Dunhill, Waterford 1834 to James and Mary)in Philadelphia abt. 1857. Two children were born in New Jersey, Mary Ellen 1860 and James 1862. The family travelled back to Ireland and their next child, William John, was born in Tyrone 1863. The family arrived in Sydney, Australia aboard th Queen of the East in April 1864. There was also a Margaret McMenamin, aged 12 yrs. travelling. John's sister Hanna was living in Sydney at this time (also an uncle who's name I cannot decipher). What caught my attention was the amount of McQuaid's listed in the area. My g.grandfather, John's son, listed John's parents as Hugh McMenamin and Mary McQuade on his death certificate but I don't know whose names he was remembering - maybe g.grandparents or an uncle!!
