Alexander Cromarty(1762-1845) could be a nephew or cousin of my great, great, great grand father, William Cromartie. Grandpa William was born 1731 in Kirkwall, migrated from South Ronaldsay to Bladen County, NC around 1750 and died in Bladen County in 1807. Grandpa William had one son, William, Jr. by a wife we believe was possibly Agnes Stewart. The names of Grandpa William's children with Ruhamah Doane in order of birth were: James, Thankful, Elizabeth, Hannah Ruhamah, Alexander, John, Margaret Nancy, Mary, Catherine, Jean, Peter Patrick and Ann. Except for Magnus and Robert, some of those names match the names of children of Alexander Cromarty and Margaret Stewart. I am descended from James and Peter Cromartie. James's son Luther and Peter's daughter Julia were my great grand parents.
Name: Delaine Kierznowski <delaine@netgate.co.za> Date: 2007-06-20 Where do you fit into this family-tree? Lillias Henry Got some ideas? lds.org. Comments:
Hi
My grandfather's father was married to a Henry from Foula. He was a Smith from North Shields, Northumberland, England.
I wondered who was doing the work for the Henry's and presume it was you.
I am sure Lily must be from our line as we had Henry's living on Foula. William is the first we can find, he then had about 12 children who then had about 12 children, and on a little island like Foula, they must be related!
My grandfather's cousin Margaret Henry who lives in North shields has been researching this line and gave the info to me. She collated with a cousin who lives in Shetland Isles who was also researching that line.
Nice to find you. I'll do some more research and see where we cross.

Your site is absolutely brilliant! I am researching the Sinclair Family in Burray and South Ronaldsay (later Hoy as well) in the Orkney Islands, UK. I've included marriages and any information I've found about those marriages and the descendents. I have over 1200 names in my Family Tree now and the earliest Sinclair I've identified was recorded in the 1821 Census of South Ronaldsay and Burray in old age. He died before the 1841 Census. I also have links to the Petrie and Sutherland families in Orkney, amongst others. Happy to hear from anyone who thinks there might be a connection. Fantastic work and well done!
