I am looking for a death registration for my grandmother Adeline Desayeux who was born in Michigan, but lived most of her life in Canada. She died in a lumber camp in Northern Ontario, in 1905 was was buried in Spragge Catholic Cemetery. Due to the circumstances of her death, she was exhumed two years later and re-buried in same cemetery. The cemetery is still there on the McFadden Estate, but I could not find a marker. Someone suggested I contact the Jesuit Archives in Wikwemikong because this parish would have been under their jurisdiction.

Notes for John CLAYTON
Letter from Bernadette Johnston Walker, Gore Bay, Ontario -- April 23,1990
Dear Mr. Sommerville;
I understand that you were in Gore Bay a week ago and was talking to Gurtie Noble about a place called Clayton's Corners.
I know a little bit about it because I live on the farm that was taken from the Crown by John and Sarah Clayton and registered in 1881. It went to his son George in 1899. The Clayton's cleared some of the land and built a log house and barn on the south-east corner of the lot. This is the corner where the Government Road and Hwy. 540 cross and it was called "Clayton's Corners". All lots were originally 100 acres and the Clayton's gave 6 10ths of an acre to the Orange Lodge. The building that was built still stands today. In May 1903 the west-half of this lot was purchased by Bob Lewis. In 1905 the east half was sold to George and Elizabeth Mervyn. In 1908 this part of the lot was sold to Bob Lewis. On May 17, 1910 Francis and Sarah Johnson bought from Bob Lewis for the sum of $1,900.00. The Johnson's are my grandparents. After grandfather died Grandma Sarah sold to Uncle Ray in 1940. We bought the farm in March 1962 and moved here in 1964. I will be in North Bay this weekend visiting my niece Shawna Boutilier who lives at 182 Main Street East Apartment 301,phone 705-474-6840. I would very much like to talk to you and find out how you are connected to this story. I am very interested in past history of properties and families. On the back I'll draw a sketch of where the corner is. After the Clayton's left it was called Johnson Corner’s and now it is called Walker's Corners.
Sincerely: Bernadette Johnson Walker 282-2259

North Bay Nugget 1931: "Family Is United By Chance"
Daughter Thought Dead Visits Father: A daughter, a father and sister have been re-united after 24 years as a result of a chance trip through North Bay. The daughter is Mrs. Samuel Clayton of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and the father John Birch, aged 107,of Nipissing Junction, who is well known throughout this vicinity. Mrs. Clayton left her home in Nipissing Junction when she 21 years of age going to Sault Ste. Marie to reside. Correspondence with her family gradually ceased and for a number years believed her father to be dead and was under the impression that one of her brothers had been killed in the Great War. Mr. Birch and his children who reside in this district, also finally came to the conclusion that Mrs. Clayton was dead after hearing no word from her for years.
A motor trip to Toronto resulted in the happy discovery. Mrs. Clayton accompanied by Mr. Haines and Miss Ottelina Haines, also of Sault Ste. Marie were passing through North Bay en route home from a trip to Toronto,when Mrs. Clayton decided to inquire about her family.Great was her surprise when she was told at a service station that her father was living, as well as her sisters and brothers. She immediately proceeded to the home of her brother Adam Birch, Nipissing Junction, who was unable to recognise the said stout lady as the slim young sister who had left home many years ago. After exchanging and answering numerous questions, Mr. Birch took his sister to their father who resides with his son, Joseph Birch. At first amazed, Mr. Birch's astonishment gradually turned to joy as he realised that his daughter was not dead but had come home again. Then followed visits to two sisters Mrs. James Morrisey, Nipissing Junction and Mrs. James Giroux,North Bay and for the past five days Mrs.Clayton has been kept busy getting aquatinted with her family again while there have been many stories and experiences to relatives. She expects to leave for Sault Ste. Marie in the evening, her only disappointment being that her father has refused to accompany her to Sault Ste. Marie to spend the winter, despite her pleadings. "If I am still alive next summer I'll come and visit you" Mr. Birch has promised his daughter. Author unknown

This is my greatgrandfather's tree--Alfred Lowrie 27 May 1850 - 15 Feb 1934, who lived in Mills township until he retired in 1920.
Alfred' family (William Henry & Elizabeth Armson) lived in West Gwillimbury, Simcoe, area as well as the Wilkinson family. Alfred met and married Elizabeth (2 Nov 1850 - 27 May 1935) Wilkinson. They married 1 January 1873 and lived in Essa County where they started their family. Alfred and Elizabeth mourned the loss of two girls in 1873 and 1874. * By 18 Jan. 1877 they had Jennie Elisabeth who married David Irwin (1873-1929). They had three children: 1898 Arden George, 1900 Violet A. who married Clarence Walker (1897-1954), and in 1905 Otto Rosswell was born. Jennie died of consumption 29 Oct. 1908, leaving her family to mourn their loss.
* In 1880 a son arrived, George Francis A. who married Flossie Burnett (1882-1925) and they moved to Wadena, SK. to raise their eight (+1) children. But in 1925 a tragedy occurred. There was a double death in this family. They lived in Kelvington, SK. He had an appendicitis operation and returning home on this 35 mile rugged road, could have been a factor of his death on 11 March 1925. Flossie gave birth to (? Melvin) the day of George's burial. She died 27 March 1925 leaving nine children.

I am searching for information and descendants of Treva DOAN. Treva was the daughter of James Albert "Bert" and Lizzie (HUMPHREY) DOAN of Assiginack and specifically Manitouwaning. Bert had a car dealership and Lizzie an ice cream parlour in Manitouwaning and my mother remembers going to Aunt Lizzie's store for ice cream with her family. Lizzie was the duaghter of George and Elizabeth (EMERY/HENLEY) HUMPHREY and we believe that Bert was the son of Elias & Margaret (MC CORMICK) DOAN.
Treva married Carl YOUNG. She had two children, we believe, one Betty of whom I have a picture as a child with her mother and, I am told, Mary Ann.
Most recent information states that Treva was living in Toronto in 1996. I was told that Betty is deceased, but this is certainly not documented.
I descend from Lizzie's sister Ada HUMPHREY who married Ernest WILLIS of Howland and later Willisville. The village is named for the WILLIS family. See Jon Butler's site- www.willisville.ca
If anyone has any information on these names, kindly contact me at the e-mail address above. Many thanks.
