My husband and I just returned from a trip to Georgia. We ran out of time before we could get to Glascock County. We are researching the Lang's and Newsom(e) families. I understand that there is a Newsom Family cemetery located some place in the county. Do you have an inventory of the graves there? Is it posted on the internet? Would appreciate it if you would let me know. You have a beautiful state and the people are so friendly and helpful.

I would like to see more. I would think an index of the records in the clerks office would be good. That way we could research the names and places located prior to going to the courthouse to search the records.

Also I would like to see a description of the early districts in this area. I keep seeing the Trants district and 1 other I can't remember at this time. but it would be good to see where these areas existed.

Thank You,
Kim L. Kitchens

Comments:
You Guys just make it too easy, Your Site is a tresure chest of information, I have found so much about my ancestry and I commend and thank each person that was thoughtful enough to spend many, many hours putting it togather. With all the information that I have found I have hit the brick wall. I could write a book on my discoveries just from your site but will try to keep it short. It just so happens that my youngest daughter (living in Palatka Fl.) met and married the ggggggrandson of Eliza Kitchens, My ggggrandfather was Elijah Dickens, b. 1824 d. 1899 in Glascock Co. Buried at Mt Zion Meth. Church, I am assuming that this is the Dickens of The Dickens family in which Dickens Crossroads was named after. What I Know is (From The 1850 Warren County Census) Elijah'S father was also named Elijah born about 1789 and was married to Susannah Jackson, The only other Dickens in that area old enough to be his father war a Robert Dickens. I would appreciate any information that anyone has on the Dickens's of Glascock County. I am also trying to find out Which Kitchens Married Temperance Kent, (daughter of John H. Kent and Elizabeth Dickens) I know that she married a Kitchens, because her Grandmother Gerusha Kent gave her granddaughter, a Temperance Kitchens a young female slave. Again thanks for all your hard work. Curtis Dickens, Deltona Fl.

What did you like best Information on the KITCHENS families
Comments:
Besides finding information about the KITCHENS families I wished you had the Census for the 1940s where I can figure out how the HARDEN families tie in with D. H. Harden. I know he married Emma Estelle KITCHENS but when? where? And who was D. H. Harden's parents. I have two names of his siblings; Donnie & Bernice but still can't figure out who his parents were. I've heard him mention a Grover Harden, was that his grandfather? Was Dane T. & Bessie Harden D. H. Harden's parents? I hope if anyone reads this and know the answers, they'll e-mail me. It's pleasant site to visit but like I said you need more information more often so that when I come back I can research through some new info. Thank You.

Comments:
Both of my parents grew up in Glascock County, and at least two previous generations of the Shelton/Smallwood/Raley/Kitchens family lived there, as well. I want to thank Mr. Dorough for a message I received a few years ago that helped me trace the Smallwood and Raley name back to the early 1700's. I am still at a "brick wall" with the Shelton family...but I will continue to try. Anyone knowing any info on Thomas Shelton (1854-1922)would be a "hero" in my book!!!

I am trying to research the family of my great-grandfather, Joseph Kitchens - circa 1810-1880. He was listed on the census for Polk County, Georgia 1860-1880. In 1860 he had daughters: Frances age 18, Nancy age 16, Missouri age 13, Mary A age 11, and Susan age 7. During October 1860 he was married to Martha Stanley in Polk County. The census records that he was born in Georgia. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

I ran across this by accident but it was exactly what I was searching for. It also linked my ancestors to Jefferson County and now I am on the right track. I am doing research on the John L Walden/son Gozie Walden line. All of the history of the small towns in Glascock is great. My dad John Charlie Walden will be so pleased to see this in print. I myself have been so captured by the history told to me since I was a little girl, that I can't leave the computer. I want my 2 year old son to know all about his ancestors and their life in Glascock County, (JC grew up there) and its history. This website has provided all of that for me. Thanks for being here!!!
