We recently visited Dubuque but only had time to spend one day searching at the library. And then the next morning we visited Linwood cemetery where we found the graves of my husband's gr gr grandparents, Earnest and Barbara Amberg. That was very exciting and we are hoping to visit Dubuque again in the near future with plans to stay there for several days. We are also hoping to find some living relatives in Dubuque as we think that some of the Heers are still living there. There were several Ambergs, Heers, and Dettmers grave stones in Linwood. We live too great a distance from Sioux City and I think that my Ellis and Webber were only there for about five years and then moved to Chicago. So there may not be any records in Sioux City.
I look forward to visiting this website often.

Looking for my kinfolk that landed in Baltimore 14 June 1862 and were to head to Iowa. They came in on the ship named Geestemunde. There were seven of them. Johann 55, Anna 40, Barbara 13, Franz 11, Johann 8, Joseph 4, Louise 1.
They ended up in Missouri, St. Louis. I can find some listed as early as 1890 on the city directory. Can't find anything between landing and the directory. Can you help??

Of all the surnames I have listed, I have a hard time trying to find family of my Paternal Great Grandfather, Thomas RANNALS. He was born 22 Jan 1853 either in Nile, Trumbull County, Ohio according to his 4 Nov 1928 obituary, or Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pa., according to his death record in Jackson County Courthouse.
He was left in Ohio with John and Eliza (Campbell) WADDLE and his parents went by wagon to Iowa. Oral family history says they died from influenza either en route to Iowa or after arriving there. When Thomas was 18 months, the WADDLES, along with Thomas, moved to Jackson County, Iowa. He stayed with the WADDLES until marriage. Any help would be appreciated.

I was born on a farm near Linden to Martha Irene Wilder and Henry Harrison Harper. Mother's surnames were Wilder and Kipping. Father's father was Francis Marion Harper, son of Eli Harper. Father's mother was Charlotte Alice Mohr. 9 children in the family, all born in Redfield, Dallas County of in Ida County or Calhoun Co. near Rockwell City. My mother's father was George Loring Wilder, who married and lived in Redfield, later in Linden. There was a large number in the Kipping family, all from Redfield. I think there is at least one descendent still there: James Kipping. I would like to go back further on both sides and also would like to get more descendents of these families.

When he was 18 months old, his parents (unknown) left his with John and Eliza (CAMPBELL) WADDLE. His parents abanded him or died from influenza and the WADDLES, with Thomas, moved to Jaackson County in 1857) and Adelia Anna "Annie" BARKLEY, (dau. of Henry BARKLEY and Elizabeth SIMMONS, both of New York. I am searching for Mildred Louise Daniels Carmichael.
She is my great grandmother.
I believe she was part of "another business daealings" of my great great grandfather's when she married my great grandfather.
To her good fortune, her husband died. Thereafter, regardless of her three children, she chose to flee her Stillwater, Minnesota home where she grown up. Shortly after her departure, her sister Lillian took in the three children; perhaps with the understanding that their mother would return "soon".
Millie never did return.
There was no contact ever again.
I am intriqued, and want to trace her travels. But all I have to go on, is that she was suppose to be living in Iowa from about 1910 and on. I am suspicious that she was heading further south but might have stalled and decided to stay in some town of Iowa.
So that's what brought me to your pages.

My great-grandfather, Alois Herdeg, was in Bellevue before moving to Fountain City, Wisc..
His first 8 children were born there, but cant find the records. This is the 1860's-early 1870's.
He had at least one brother there too. Anyone know where these records can be found?
