Earliest Known Ancestor in Digby County? Thomas Bartley md Jane Spittle abt 1842
Comments:
I was unable to identify an email address to contact someone within the project so I am using this forum-several years ago I accidently found a census of Nova Scotia about 1822 while looking up research for someone else. I didnt know at the time my own family was from Nova Scotia too-and on the census was a William Bartley who may be related to my ancestor, Thomas Bartley who supposedly was born about that time in or near the community of Digby. Our family cannot get information earlier than his marriage To Jane Spittle in Digby about 1842. Additionally there is conflicting information about their nationality- some say Irish, some say English -all we know is that by 1880 the family was Baptist and in New Brunswick.
If there is a contact I can exchange information with, please email at obnn9119@yahoo.com
thanks
Roberta Williams

Earliest Known Ancestor in Digby County? Abraham VanTassel
Comments:

I am actually helping my daughter in this research. Her birth mother's name is Marlene Van Tassel. She was born in Plymouth, Nova Scotia.
What info we have is that the family descended from Abraham Van Tassel who came from the US after the American Revolution, and received land via the Hatfield Grant. He settled in the Digby area.
My question is where can I go to find more information on Abraham, especially before and after he arrived in Nova Scotia.
Respectfully,
Fred Weber

I just found this website. It is wonderful! Lots of hard work has gone into this project and I for one, appreciate it. Thank you.

I was born and lived in or near Digby until I was 14 but my roots are still there. My grandparents live in Acaciaville and we lived in Marshalltown. We are currently working on the family history and I am sure your website will fill in lots of missing information and when our family project is complete, I may have some missing information for you. The family names are "Amero", "Amirault", "Gaudet", "Comeau" and "Wood".

I will be visiting this website many times. Again, thank you for a wonderful job.

Thank you for the wonderful web pages that you have available. Alas. I was unable to find any info on Henry M. Pickle, whom I understand was in the area when the 1871 census was conducted. I did however post an inquiry about him on your pages. Thank you once again.

Thank you Cathy for the HOURS and HOURS you have put in to get this up and running with its new sections etc. Now to make this an even better site SHE NEEDS YOU. SHE needs EVERY ONE of US to contribue espically by adopting and indexing cemetery records or death records as John Thurber did recently and Wayne Peters with his marriages or anything else that is of a genealogical nature.
