My sister and I, are the only daughters my father had. In a conversation with my paternal grandfather, he told that the cintron were originaly from caborojo. His mother gave birth to him in arecibo ,raised him in mayaguez and as a young man he moved to san juan. The last time I contacted him , he lived in La calle buenaventura en santurce.We spent like two hours(Iwas just listening) about his family history. My father was his only son.My father died in 1971 at 42 years of age.My grand father also mentioned some older brothers nammedVictor , and a sister named Isabel. he had several brothers and sisters the majority of his brothers moved to NEW YORK early 1900's . He also mentioned some brothers and uncles that immigrated to Hawaii late 19th century. His tale was facinating. but was cut short by a woman with a FOREING ACCENT( NOT PUERTO RICAN AT ALL). Abuelito told me that was the woman that took care of him after his wife died.Itried to contact him several times after that but to no avail. I most point out that my mother moved us to new york when I was 13 years old(1969).Before that, the last time I saw grandpa' was when I was 9 years old.I NEVER RETURNRD TO PUERTO RICO AGAIN.Nonetheless, MY children and grandchildren should know about their roots and how rich and beautiful is. I would like to find out about my ancestors because Iwould like that the generations to come have a clear understanding of where they came from , and to embrace it with pride.

I would like to find more information regarding my paternal greatgrandparents also.
I want to find more information regarding my maternal greatgrandparents: Jose Rosado Bonilla, Juana Ramona Ramos Mercado. I found a relative in Miami from the Cantres family. But I havent' find anything from the Acaba relatives. So far I found a few documents in ancestry.com (census, draft cards), but nothing else. Both my parents are dead and most of their family are dead also.

I came across your site and was very impressed with the actual appearance of the site and so read on...... My search, like yours also includes the U.S. 1910, 1920, and 1930 Census. But I was was extremely surprised to find out that Puerto Rico actually had a census done in 1899 as well. I am a member of Ancestry.com but did not see it there.

I'm looking in the 1910 Census for all the Luciano last name, town by town. Them going to look for their sons and daughters, in the 1930 Census. This way i will find uncle, auntts, cousins. Even do many die , but the second or third cousin has to be alive. Let you know how it went

We cannot find anything on Gregorio who was supposed to be from a Catalan family. My great-grandfather, their son, was named Juan Antonio Rosa Irizarry, born in Hormigueros and so was his wife, Antonia Ramirez. She died in Guanajibo, Mayaguez. We found their death certificates but not much before that. She died in 1912 and he married another Antonia Quiles Ramirez, from Cabo Rojo, the following year. He died in 1926 in Mayaguez.

I am doing research on many sides but I am having a hard time with the Gonzalez side. My maternal grandfather was Marcos Aurelio Gonzalez-Valentín (1888-1987) from Mayaguez. His father was José Vicente Gonzalez. José's name is on a plaque at El Morro as he was tortured there by the Spaniards during the Componte in 1887. His father came from Córdova, Spain and his mother from the Canary Islands. I am trying to connect them to the family they came to live with in Añasco and Mayaguez.

Have been reading your column for some time now..I too come from Salinas, Puerto Rico. Have been trying to gather information pertaining my Dad's ancestry. All he ever told us was that his dad migrated from Asturias, Spain. I believe he said his name was Juan San Miguel...no maternal last name mentioned...or who he was married to.
My father was born in Ciales, Sept. 20, 1902 but left town after his dad passed on. Supposedly he left the farm in charge of other family members. He was a young, umarried man, in charge of his mother a brother and a sister. His mother's name was Dominga Del Valle. brother Jose and sister Carmen Rita..
He met my mother while working for Sobrinos de Gonzalez in the town of Patillas I believe around 1932 or 33.
If you have access to the Ciales census or any information that could shed some light on my dad's father, it would be a great help in "tying" some loose ends...TIA and for the wonderful inforamtive pages..

I was looking through the passenger lists for the Marine Tiger and found my cousin listed there. His name is listed Rigoberto Reyes although I knew him as Rigoberto DelRio. He carried his mother's maiden name of Reyes. The information such as his birthdate is correct as well as the town he came from. Reading this information I was able to confirm that he lived at 193 Ellery Steet, I remember my mother mention that they lived on Ellery when they were young. I sent for my grandmother's S.S. application and there was the same address. So now I know how they came to the U.S.Thanks for the info!!

My father was a Merchant Marine for more than 30 years.My mother told me he was a Captain of a ship.One of the stories I heard was that his ship went down and everyone thought the crew had drowned,even had funeral services for them.But by the grace of God they were rescued at sea.They were lost for two weeks at sea.I only saw my father twice while he was alive and met him for the first time when I was "16" years old.Unfortunately, I found all this out

I had a great grandfather his name was Pedro Celestino Diaz.
He died in a Coal mine Explosion in Hastings Colorado. April 27,1917. His wifes name was Petra? She fled with her unborn son who is also named Pedro Celestino Diaz. So my great grandfather's family would not take her baby away from her I was told. From my Grandpa he had several children. He has a hard time speaking now and doesn't know that much himself. I had found a web site a year ago that listed my gr. grandfather and a another man with a name I believe was named Savatario? I do not recall the exact spelling. When I saw the towns of Coamo & Salinas listed in the description of your site I had to investigate, since some of my ancestors lived in those towns. My mother's parents came to the States and were married in Manhattan in 1917. They lived a short time in NY,but were in Jersey City by 1918 when there first child was born. I have some mysteries surrounding my grandfather and his family. I'd like to share these with you and some of the other research and family names from Salinas and elswhere. I've been doing this family tree since 1991.the name I entered for my oldest ancestor, Eusebio Perez came from the death record of his son Jose Leoncio Perez, Gomez.
