I found a lot of the information on the surnames I'm researching. I would like to make a comment/suggestion.....the cemetery sections would be much easier to navigate if the names were alpha instead of by burial location within the cemetery. The location could be added as a column at the end of the info. I, as most online researchers are never going to go to Lamar Co., AL to visit these cemeteries. Good work on the amount of information you do have.

According to ancestry.com...my grandfather, Chesley L. Hutcherson, was born there in 1911. There was at least 2 brothers (Lesley [May 5, 1914-Mar 21, 1979]and Murry L [1919 but served in the Army during WWII]) and 1 sister (Gladys). Your sight helped me find Lesley's cemetery info but I could never find a newspaper name to find his obituary. We are trying to determine who were there parents and are there any surviving from the Hutcherson family there. Chesley went on to be a city inspector for the city of New Orleans and was killed Dec. 31, 1969. He is buried not far from there in Columbus, MS w/ his 2 sons (one is my father). The problem is we have to go to Lamar county to figure out how to determine our lineage past Chesley L. Hutcherson. The 1920 census shows them in Lamar County Alabama but we're not paying customers so we can't see who their parents are. I can't figure out from this page how to access your 1920 census or your obituaries for 1979. I'm lost:( Thanks for helping me find Uncle Lesley's cemetery though.
Sincerely,
Micki Freels (Cynthia C. Micki Hutcherson Freels)

Looking for information on Cassie Ann Sims, who came to Texas in the early 1880's and married my great-grandfather, Charles Alexander Smith in 1887. I was told by family members that she came to Texas with her first husband, Abner Fowler, that they were married in 1881 and he died in 1883. I'd like to find confirmation of that, but cannot find either of them on this site. Thanks, though. You're doing a great service!

I am a native of Columbus, MS and I have roots in Lamar Co.from where my father & mother migrated in (circa) 1903. I have been trying to locate the name of my Grandfather Gilliam, who is buried at Liberty Church of Christ Cemetar, but the names of my infant sister, Granddad & Grandmother Gilliam are in the 50% not listed. However, as I recall from the picture on the site I THINK they are interred to the left of that tree in the picture of the church. I am trying to locate my grandparents first names. I live in Mobile, am 83 yrs and close to being blind. You will never know how much I enjoy digging into my roots, not having time previously to do so. Thanks for posting the newspaper archives! They are extremely interesting.
The following notice appeared in the 16 Jul 1875 Vernon Pioneer referencing my ggg-grandparents, and I am hoping someone might be able to check the Chancery Court records in Lamar County and shed some light on why my ggg-grandmother lodged this complaint:
"NOTICE – CHANCERY NOTICE State of Alabama, Sanford County In Chancery at Vernon, Ala. It being the 9th District of the Western Chancery Division. CHARLOTTE MILLER, et. al. by her next friend, JOHN MILLER, vs. GABRIEL SHIRLEY, et al. In this cause it is made to appear to the Registrar by the affidavit of the Complainant that the said Gabriel Shirley is a man; resident of this State, and that his particular place of residence is in Lowndes Co. in the State of Mississippi. And further it is the belief of said affiant that the Defendant is over twenty-one years of age. It is therefore ordered by the Registrar that publication be made in the “Vernon Pioneerö, a newspaper published in the town of Vernon, Sanford County, Ala. for four successive weeks, requiring him the said Gabriel Shirley to plead, answer or demur to the Bill of Complaint in this cause by the 20th day of July, 1875, or in thirty days thereafter a decree pro confesso may be taken against him. Done at this office this 14th day of June 1875. JAMES M. MORTON, Registrar. SHIELDS, DEROCEMOMT and MCCLUSKY, attorneys for Complainant."

Looking for information on my ancestors.
My GGf, William Henry Barnes, was born in Mississippi in 1871. I have very little else to go on. His parents? Siblings?
May be related to a Jethro Barnes. I am at a dead. GGf went to Texas, then to Oklahoma. He died in 1919.

You have no idea - this has made my research of family and just being able to be in contact to a place that still holds a very special place in my heart. During all my travels in my career....people not "southern born/southern bred" did not understand the feelings I had for home. I could only tell them that if you are born in the south...it is in your soul and you feel the pull of home in the fall and in the spring, at least..these are the times that I do. My husband has always told me that once we cross the Lamar County Line...my accent changes instantly.....he's not from the south...how could he possibly understand!!
Thank you for providing this site; I will be a very frequent visitor...Shalom, Myra Kate
