Donna,
You know what the saying is about assuming something right? Also I have no problem with you racial mix and if you would have read the post you would see that, I would love to see you read. In response to your granddaughter she should have mentioned that she is the one who brought the topic up and the reason I returned to your site. I also apologized for going after you like I did. I was unaware that she was related to you. If you would have read my post you would have seen that I was saying those who live in America that were not Natives should feel some shame for the robbery of land that belonged to your ancestors. Where did you get that I had a problem with your racial background? Just like your blindness on the under payment of the land owned by the African Americans of this County. How can you say that there was not a problem in this town? As far as the civil right leaders I was making a statement in regards to the racial problems of the nation at that point. This nation as a whole has always had a group that showed discrimination towards. The south being a little slower on educating themselves. I am not going to pretend that Forsyth County had no issues. I remember the KKK rallies. Watch the old videos of the hicks throwing rocks and bottles at the African Americans.... I appreciate your response and trying to twist what I said.

Chris,
Your comment "but reading the pure ignorance that you poured through your fingers on the keyboard outrages me" OFFENDS me. My research applies to the property blacks owned in Forsyth County in 1912.
If you are 25 now, you were about 2 or 3 when Hosea Williams and Dean Carter led the 1st March in Forsyth County in January 1987. Oprah was also here in 1987. I can find no record of Rosa Parks here. MLK was here in the 1960s going through the property records and I asked in 1987 to see a copy of his results, if they can be located.
You were not born when I started researching the black property in Forsyth County.
I am part Cherokee Indian and was born in Oklahoma.
Taking your argument to my granddaughter on her Facebook page was uncalled for. I assume that you are prejudiced against me because I am part Indian and have black cousins.
I would be glad to see you do a little research and quote some dates and times.
As far as meetings of any group on public property, I refer you to the Supreme Court ruling.
Forsyth County, Georgia v. The Nationalist Movement

Ok Donna Parrish,
Forsyth County was perfect to small minded people like you. I am sorry but I remember the torment that the local KKK caused on anyone that was not white. I have a sister that is 1/2 cuban and she went through the same torment. I think that you need to stop vacationing at De Nile! I remember the marches here where the local trash met the busses of HUMAN beings with glass bottles and rocks simply because the skin they had was not white. They even had small children out there throwing them. Why don't we give good ole Oprah a call and see what she has to say about Forsyth County GA..... A town she will never FORGET! You are right that there has always been racism of some kind. It is just funny how the great USA and the Southern States continue to keep it going when we are to be the greatest country in the world. Native Americans were done very wrong and I do in deed feel shame that the freedom that I have today was paid for by peaceful innocent people that had this land first, Then it was someone's bright idea to bring people from Africa over so that we could not pay them, rape them, enslave them, beat them, and then make them fight for the south which wanted to keep treating them like they were less then human or animal. Thank God for the Yankees having a BRAIN and winning that war. That did not stop the problem.(and the trash of Forsyth did steal the land of the the blacks) MLK, Rosa Parks, Josea Williams the list goes on and on of people that I saw die in my life time. I am 25. I attended school in the hell called Cumming where there was only one non-white student that was not here until high school. I remember the morons wearing the white hoods having meetings on the steps of the GOVERNMENT buildings and the oh so smart and educated morons that did then and continue to breed hate and ignorance with pride. Still to this day when people hear that I was raised in this scum pit they know where I am talking about. I am ASHAMED of the way that the natives of this town acted. Thank GOD I am not one and thank GOD my family was not so stupid. Not just this county but the entire country has always been unfair to a group of others that were not like them. Indians, Blacks, Women, Hispanics, Gays. This country is no better then the middle east in the way that we carry ignorance. No matter what out age, sex, race, sexual origin or what have you- WE ALL BLEED THE SAME. I don't get upset easily anymore but reading the pure ignorance that you poured through your fingers on the keyboard outrages me. EVERY SINGLE PERSON should feel guilt that in most cases their relatives (and some like the ignorant idiots that posted...not pointing any fingers Donna) behaved in the way that they did. This world is doomed because of ignorance. We are all living breathing beings and hopefully most of us are beyond being barbaric. I am sure that you will take this down but I hope that you think about the things that you said. The south will not rise again and maybe one day the southerners will have big enough brains to understand that! This is not just an attack at one person. It is to the entire racist community. Like the ones that scream out the window Fag at me and N***** at my partner of 4 years. We are evil you know. We just keep having children that we let all of the hard working hicks pay for the welfare that they collect. this country has MUCH bigger problems then someone's skin color or sexual preference. Blacks, Whites, Asians, Hispanics, Gay, Straight, Bi, Christians, Non-Christians------WE ARE ALL HERE TO STAY!!!! DEAL WITH IT!!!

I have heard about the "signs", but there were no signs when I came to Forsyth County in 1965.
I was not alive in 1912. One side of my family was in Oklahoma where the Cherokees were relocated to when the US Government took their land and the State of Georgia gave it away in a lottery in the 1830s. The other side of my family was in Nova Scotia Canada where my father was born in 1910.
My husband\'s people were in Florida from the early 1800s.
Since there were not quite 17,000 people in Forsyth County in 1970 and now there are about 150,000, I would say the majority of the residents have no guilt feelings about something that appened in 1912.
I regret
what Hitler did to the Jews in World War II
what the United States did to the Indians
that black people in Africa sold other black people into slavery and that America was so long in giving Blacks equal rights
all the torture and killing done in the name of religion whether Christian or Islamic or some other religion
Since I had no control of those things, I don\'t feel guilty about them and have no reason to ask forgiveness for them

I have to say that do not agree with you the african americans being ran out. They were... I remember the signs at the county lines. Talk to their living relatives and they can tell you how they either sold the land for nothing or they were ran out. We can not deny the ignorance that this town has been plagued by. We need to face it not try to hide it. I protested many of KKK meetings that were held on where.... THE COURTHOUSE STEPS! This town needs to admit and ask for forgivness. We all of our own opinion and I happen to have a different onwe then you.

The Black property was sold, bonds for title foreclosed on, levied on for money owed (fi fa), or still owned.
Name: Melissa Teague <missyharmany@aol.com> Date: 2009-04-13 Question or Answer Error Comments:
Blacks were not forced to sell their property, it was stolen from them! Building on this evidence, Cox Newspapers reporter Elliot Jaspin was inspired to trace land deeds and tax rolls back to 1912. He found further proof that the majority of the property owned by the banished African Americans was never sold, but instead taken by their white neighbors. Called adverse possession, this process is partly statutory and partly common law, and involves the legal acquisition of a title to a property without having to pay for it. In the case of the land in Forsyth County, white residents simply held the property belonging to black residents following their banishment. In the state of Georgia, the period of adverse possession is seven years. After this period of time, whites legally owned the land.
White title attorneys such as Phil Bettis plead ignorance regarding the appropriation of black-owned land, but some descendants of these black families have declared that the property is rightfully theirs. With missing title transfers and deeds of sale between former black residents and current white property owners are often missing; therefore, returning the land in Forsyth County to the descendants of its rightful owners remains a controversial and legal challenge.
Forsyth County has a sad history of racial bigotry that still exists today.

Thank you for this website! My great-grandmother's family is from Forsyth County. My question: I'm looking for an obituary or death certificate of her mother, trying to learn her cause of death. She was about 33 when she died. Family rumor has it that the circumstances of her death were unusual, so perhaps even a newspaper article. Her name was Seba Cantrell Crow. She was the wife of William T. Crow (son of Johnathan H. Crow and Nancy Margaret Nunn). I know she, William, Nancy, and several others of their family are buried at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Forsyth Co. Seba's gravestone says she died in 1905; It does not list month/days, only the year. I've also seen Seba's name spelled Ceba, Sebie, and Cebie (on census records on on her daughter Julia's death certificate.) If anyone can help me, please email me, I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

Hello,
My name is Tonya Levy. I am a native of Forsyth County and I am concerned about a tree on the corner of Post Road and Kelly Mill Road. It is a very large and beautiful hardwood. CVS is going to build there and has already started clearing the land. I went to a commissioners meeting last night and the developers stated that they were going to have to cut down this tree. My arguement is that the tree is on the corner of the corner lot and drives to the store can easily go around this gorgeous tree. Is there a way that the historical society can protect this tree before it is too late?
Sincerely,
Tonya Levy

Donna, I am a native of Forsyth Co, GA but have been away for 44 years though I come back often. I attended the Buice Reunion that is now back at Sharon Baptist and am trying to get up with those who handle the reunion each year. I attended 10 years ago but am not sure that I have any of the correct phone nos or email addresses. I am a descendant of Elisha and Patsy Hall Buice and would like to get up with other descendants of that line to see about placing a new headstone at Sharon Baptist for them. Would appreciate hearing from anyone.
Too, I was raised at Haw Creek Baptist and know that perhaps you have already made a census of that very large cemetary. Is a current one listed on any website? How about Daves Creek. Many of my Pruitt and Buice ancestors are buried there. I would be willing to help if I can on either of these. Look forward to hearing from one all!!!

Ms. Parrish,
First of all, I would like to tell you how I enjoyed this website. I am thrilled to see how the history of our United States is being preserved on sites such as yours.
My name is Lisa Rados. I am the wife of Jeffrey Clay Bennett Rados, son of Herbert Julian Bennett of Cumming, Ga., and Donna Jean Edmonds originally fron Utaca, NY ,
presently of Connecticut. We are in search of Herbert Julian Bennett, possibly 68 yrs of age. I was hoping that maybe you have some information that can shed some light on our little mission. Herbert Julian Bennett(18yrs od) would have married Donna Jean approx. 1957 in Georgia, and had their first child, Rebecca Jean, born July 11th 1958. Becky as she is known today has some memories of her father's family, Addie is one name that comes to mind.
A few years later, Herb, Donna and Becky, moved to Connecticut. In 1963, Ferurary 14th( Valentine's Day) A son was born, Jeffrey Clay(NAMED AFTER HIS GRANDFATHER CLAY BENNETT??)
Donna and Herb divorced a few years later. Herb came back to Georgia in the 70's and I believe has remarried.
He did make a visit back up to Connecticut, aprox. 1982ish, to bring his children back to Georgia.
At that point in their lives, they did not understand what was happening and rejected his offer. As they matured and had families of their own;( Becky has 2 boys Joshua a handsome strong minded(stubborn :) )28 yr old man, and
Christopher a tall kind hearted 19 yr old man.
Jeff has a blonde hair, blue eyed wonderful, funny, 5yr old boy, ) they realized what they have lost in life.
Becky and Jeff have shared many stories of their father with their boys. Though, not as many memories as they would like. Their is no blame on what happened, who did what, who was where, why the family that from pictures and memories looked very happy is no longer.
I am the outsider looking in, but my claim to this man, is a biological connection to my son and husband. Jeff and Becky would like a chance to reunite and introduce their boys to Herb.
I know this may be a great request from a stranger in Connecticut, so I do understand if you can not help us.
We are not looking to disrupt any families, just a chance to bring a family back together.
We are not even sure he is still alive. Just Hopefull!!
Please email me back at Lrados@cox.net, or by phone at 860-558-2314.
If you have made it this far, I appreciate you taking the time out to read my request. By no means are you obligated, but hopefully you can help.
Respectfully,
Lisa Rados

In the 1920 Census starting at section 196.198. This is my father's family. My father was Bonnie, the son listed at 2 years old. The unnamed daughter of 1 1/2 is Wilma. Coincedentally Wilma (Roddy) was buried today in Marietta. She was the last surviving child of this family. They had already lost one son at the time of this census, and there were three more born after this date. If you have any other information on my family it would be greatly appreciated.

First I want to tell you how much I have enjoyed your site. It represents A LOT of work......but I looked at it a month or so ago and found things on there that aren't on there now. Like Cemeteries in Forsyth County. My husband's family (both sides) are from Forsyth and I have found lots of information, including different cemeteries, which we have visited, thanks to your site. I have been able to get in touch with relatives who have not heard from his side of the family in years. I want to continue. Do y'all need volunteers or what?

Penelop is listed in the Federal Mortality Sch. of 1880.
It was thought for sometime that Hugh had been killed in the Civil war, however is not true he was seen and is on record after the war in Forsyth County,he had been dischaged due to injurys, however there is nothing on his death nor his burial location nor of Penelops. I am their
GG grandson and am trying to locate the site. I understand
however the Bell family was mostly buried in Jackson county,
it could be he was buried there, we have nothing however to
prove this. They were long time residence of Forsyth County

Mt. Moriah is in the Cemetery Book. Why don't you and Martha take a copy with you (she has one) and update it if you find any I missed. It was very overgrown when I copied it.
A project you might take on - I believe the Mt. Moriah Church minutes were in with the Coal Mountain minutes. If they still are, you might transcribe them or part of them to go online. Especially death dates.

If you will return to the main page

and click on Cemeteries, you will find that I did a cemetery book copyright 1981.
This was accurate thru the stones there in 1971 when I started.
If you want to add some records, the Minute Book Indexes in the Probate Court have only been done thru Book A
and the Deeds could stand some abstracting to put online.

I don't know when the buildings were built. The boundaries for the Sharon school District for 1907 appear in Garland Bagley's History Volume 2.
The date for at least the brick school could probably be found in the school board records. The wood school might go back too far for the records to exist.
