Thanks for keeping the website going. Have visited before, searching for ancestors of my 2g grandparents, James Gallagher & Bridget Mary Doris. They emigrated to the USA ca. 1850, settled in Hazleton and after a decade moved to Allentown, PA.
Still looking for any of their siblings or parents that they left behind in Lettermacaward. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the website.

I am searching for ANY information about my 3rd g-grandfather's origins in county Donegal. He emigrated to new Brunswick Canada on the Prudence out of Londonderry in 1838. His name was James Orr and supposedly he had 2 brothers who also came to North America; one travelling to western Canada and the other to the US.
Thank you!!

I have a twin sister and we are 80 yrs of age. I have been to Northern Ireland in 1999 and 2011. While in Donegal Town in 211 found the Reel Inn The young singer/bartender showed me the big picture on the wall Of Owner/John McMenamin. He talked with the owner on the phone and found that John McM had come from the same town in County Tyrone and had been to my Uncle Hugh's wake. That was awesome since our Mother died of TB when we just turned 2yr.Our Father John McM raised us. My grandfather had 10 siblings 9boys 2girls. His Mother and 3 boys, came vis Liverpool to Phila.Penna abt 1860.

Dear Ms. Queen,
Thanks for all the good work that you do and have done.
I'm also a genealogy freak and have been so since 1999,
beginning just before the world was coming to its end.
My 2g grandparents James Gallagher & Bridget Mary Doris emigrated to the U.S. ca. 1850. I'm sure they came from Donegal, but where in Donegal I'm not sure. However, I'm guessing, based on what evidence I've found, they most likely came from Dooey, in Lettermacaward. I haven't given up searching though. Best regards from Virginia, USA.

He died when I was 15, and very rarely talked about his life in Ireland. I do not know anything about my Irish relatives--he kept in touch with no one. I would like to solve the mystery of his early life. Please contact me if you have any information----

I have so enjoyed your website as I have been interested in the Lairds of Raphoe and their history most of my life. I was born in the townland Braehead in Raphoe, a few fields away from the townland of Burnside. My maternal grandmother is Kathleen Laird born in Burnside in 1924 and she married my grandfather in 1944. He was John Alexander Russell of Braehead, also a decscendant of Lairds of Braehead. In 1859 Margaret Laird of Braehead, daughter of the late Francis Laird married William Russell of Umblareagh. I have no notion where this Umblareagh is, although there were Russells living in Braehead and Burnside decades before this. My grandmother's brother Robert (Bob) Laird still lives and farms in Burnside and my own uncles William and John Russell still farm In Burnside and Braehead. There are still an awful lot of Lairds and people who are related to them living in and around Raphoe.

Searching for ancestors of Sephen Dorian McOnigly, born Cooladerry, Co.Donegal about 1862 - parents Francis McOnigly and Jane Dorian. Came to Australia before 1894.
I'm thinking Australian spelling has changed original name and was perhaps McGonigle/McGonical or even McCunnical, as have found this name in Griffiths Val in Cooladerry. Perhaps someone else is researching this line.

I have enjoyed your website - my grandfather William James Morell came from Mountcharles. Not having much success but hopefully with the pages on Donegal I may find something. His father was also William James Morell (spade maker) and his mother was Ellen Griffin/Griffith. Will be back again soon to your page. Hopefully having a website of my own regarding all my ancestors. Thanks.

CHILDREN - DEFINITELY CHARLES=CATHERINE LINDSAY (MARRIED GLASGOW 1857), PROBABLY ALSO HUGH WENT TO NSW IN 1858 ON SAPPHIRE WITH WIFE CATHERINE.
AND
JOHN=ANN KENNEDY 1863, APPLETON, LANCS. HAD ONE CHILD IN DONEGAL 1867

PETER KENNEDY = JULIA MORRIS BEFORE 1838 EITHER IN IRELAND OR LIVERPOOL AREA. CHILDREN BRIDGET, MARY, ANN, JOHN - ONLY LAST TWO SURVIVED CHILDHOOD AND WENT ON TO MARRY. JOHN B WALTON ON THE HILL C1849, AND MARIIED CATHERINE BEFORE 1871.

--------------
As a postscript to the above, John Gallagher and Ann Kennedy had these children that I know of, from 1864 to 1889 :-
Catherine, Margaret, Ann, Mary, John, Thomas, Peter, MAry Ellen, George William. Peter was born in Alshiremoor, Donegal in 1873. Most of the children were born in Widnes, but George William was baptised in 1889 in Blackburn, but appears as Joh W. in the 1891 census, which I think is a mistake.

Margaret married Abraham Waite, and Mary Ellen married John Bullock (1) and Edwin Marsden (2). I am a descendant of Mary Ellen (1881-1908), but know of other relatives living in Lancashire.

In Donegal, there is a connection to Durreel, Donegal Town and Minatea.

Have a HUGE missing link, and am asking to talk to anyone with Quinn family that was located in the southwest portion of Donegal. This would include towns of Rafoarty, Ballintra, Rosilly Bar, Laghy, Stranass, Stranorlar, Ballyshannon, and any surrounding areas.

I am asking if ANYONE has a Quinn in their line that came from the southwest part of County Donegal to please email me! I think we are all talking about the same family, but it was such a big family, we don't actually realize it yet.
Too many coincidences are coming up that tie in then seem to break off, because of ONE missing area of information.

Would you like to combine your efforts with ours to find this missing information? I think that's where we will ALL find what we're needing!! This will be the time period of approx. 1765-1820.

Someone somewhere has the information in their records - they just don't realize it yet! Let's help each other!!

I finally found that my ancestors came from Gortnasillagh townland.
However, most of my information is by work of mouth. All records for this area seem not to have been made or in the case over here, destroyed in a fire(s);
My guy was Michael McSwyne (Mickey Sweeney)His son, my grandfather, Francis, emigrated sometime in the 1870s to the coal fields of PA, as did so many others from the Glenties area.

If you can steer me to any written info, I'd be grateful.

I am hopefully planning a trip to Ireland this summer. I met a gentleman, originally from Ireland, who looked at my business card and told me that he knew my relatives. Ever since that meeting, I have been as curious as a cat, pardon the pun!!!! My Grandfather left Ireland in the late 1800's and arrived in Boston, MA. His name was James Anthony McEleney, as was my father's. It would be so thrilling to find my relatives in Ireland. As I have traveled Europe I have not been to the country of my ancestors. My Dad told me that his Dad came over from Ireland with Joseph Kennedy. My Granddad was a road contractor in Boston. If this sounds familar to anyone and you have the time, I would love to hear from you. In the meantime, God bless you all and I so look forward to visiting the Emerald Isle.

Comments:
First of all, I want to say what a great site this is. It has helped somewhat with my own personal enquiries.

A new website has just been set up in order to contact old school friends that attended the Royal and Prior Comp. School in Raphoe. It's just a matter of signing the guest book and naming the person/people you would like to get in touch with again. And hopefully, through time, contact will be made.

Your website is beautiful. My great-grandmother, Annie McCool was born in Ballyshannon, Donegal in February, 1850. I couldn't find Ballyshannon in any of the parishes you listed. I'm assuming it is Ballyshannon. She dictated it to someone who wrote it Belle Shannon. I would like to find her birth record but need to know the civil parish to find the Roman Catholic Church. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I am looking for a John Stevenson who I have been told lived in Donagal. He came to America with his wife, Martha Warwick around 1720ish. Thay had six boys. A few born in Ireland and the rest born in Virginia. Three generations later, one of the Stevensons married Ann Eliza Caldwell who had come to America with her family from Londonderry as a child. They were married in 1856.

To learn a lot about researching church records, you might want to contact Bobby Haggerty at bigfoot@epix.net. He'd done a lot of it.

This is a fantastic site with wonderful information. I am doing genealogy on my mother's family (Timony-Meenatawy,County Donegal). Her family left Donegal in 1906 and settled in Freeland, Pennsylvania. They were brought over by Peter(Peg Leg)Timony. Peter came over in 1865 and settled in Freeland. I am trying to find out what ship and the exact date that he emigrated to USA. I have a copy of the 1910US Census in which he indicated that he arrived in US in 1865. I have searched the pasenger list at the National Archives in Washington, D. C., but have not been able to find him on any list for the year 1865. If anyone knows anything about this family I woould appreciate hearing from them. Thanks for the site, keep up the good work on this site.

Many thanks and regards.

My grandfather Hugh Canning and his wife Catherine nee Breslin are buried in a church yard somewhere near Gleneely, Donegal. I don't know their date of birth but I know they died early in the l900's. They had six children that lived, Hugh, Sarah, Patrick, Philip, John and Ellen. Hugh settled in Glasgow, Patrick,my father moved to England, the others emigrated to the United States. They were related to a family named Coyle from the same village named Moneydarrah, one member of which moved to Boston but I have no other information on him. I emigrated to the US in 1948 and live in Massachusetts. I was told most Cannings are from Donegal but so far I have turned up nothing but I will keep searching your site and hope that some day I will. My other grandfather Michael Mulholland married a Johanna Sullivan in Cork and later moved to Glasgow after 1900 and I am looking for information on them too. Thanks for the opportunity to write to you.

At Trimragh, (it was a family home there), leck Parish in about 1830. I believe her fathers name was James McGowan, though I'm not sure and I do not know her mothers name. I know she had step-mother she did not like and as a result came to America when she was about 16 or 17. She married David King, he worked on her fathers farm and I don't know if his family is there too or not. I would greatly apprieciate any help you could give.

Hi, I'm trying to research my McElhinney roots at this time. I'm as far back as William McElhinney, born in "Cloonmore, Ireland, I believe in Donegal, in 1791. He married Elizabeth Wilkinson in 1822. They had my next decendant, Patrick, in 1825, along with 9 other children, the 1st one died, 8 lived. We also that Williams Great-great(etc.) grandfather was named Patrick and came over from Scotland in 1610, for "religios reasons", whatever that might have been, who knows? Between Patrick, from Scotland, and William is unknown, and prior to Patrick is missing. William is buried in, I believe, Donegal. I have the cemetery info, but not with me. Can you point me to some sources for my research?

Thanks,

You have done a wonderful job with your website. I'm just beginning my "on-line sojourn", so this is just fantastic to me. My inquiries of Donegal by "snail mail" have proven sporadic at best to date, so I'm looking forward to spending a bit more time perusing your information. Now, it's off to work!

Terrific website! What a great service you're providing!

My grandmother, Margaret Bridget Doherty, was born in Craig, Muff, Inishownen, Donegal. Her parents were William and Unity (Gallagher) Doherty of Muff. Willie was a farmer. Her mother's family, Michael and Catherine (Collins) Gallagher, were from Calhame/Sallaghgrane area of Letterkenny, Conwal Parish. Michael was a cooper.
I have some Donegal records. When I get a little time I will send them on to you.
Thanks for providing this site!

Traced maternal parentage to Donegal County, Ireland about 1800. Drumhome parish for Allans, Tullymead listed for Murrays. Cannot find Tullymead, still feverishly digging. Thanks for this site, will do some excavations here <G>.

These pages are so helpful and have given me fresh ideas and encouragement to keep searching for my DENNY family from Killgarvan Townland Rathmullan.
I admire the hours of work you have put into these pages.

What an AWSOME website. I've looked till my eyes hurt. I've copied your recipes and toasted you over Hot Pot. Still have not found my G.Grandparents buy I'm sure having a great time. Looking for info on John Bonner, born March 1838(?) married in Ireland to Penelope (Nebbi/norbi(?)) Gallagher Bonner. They emigrated to the Ga/S.C area sometime before 1868. Had the first of 9 children in Ga in 1867. Lived in Ellenton S.C. Thanks

I like his Web site very much. I live in Donegal and have information on the Families named, as well as several others from the parishes of Drumholm Donegal Laghy and Killymard Church of Ireland
