Not much to say at this time, but I'm curious about how far back I'm related to this family. My moms family did a family geneology (sp?) back to the late 1800's, but I know very little about my dads side. I put a call to them, and waiting a reply, but I'm sure he doesn't know too much.
Looking forward to a reply from you.
Take care

My great grandfather was Ferdinand Cyr. He was born in about 1840 in Canada. His wife, my great grandmother was Caroline Sprimont. She as from Belgium. They were married in Canada. They moved to Kansas in about 1880 and lived in Cloud County where they are buried. They died in about the 1920's. They had about 13 children, one of which was my father's mother, Ruby Cyr.

I've been able to trace the family tree on Ancestry.com back to France quite a few generations. Someone has done a lot of work on this family tree. Ferdinand Cyr's father was David Cyr.

Are we related? I'd like to know more about the Cyr's. There are still some Cyr's living in Cloud County, Kansas. Thanks, Reid Buell

My mother is Easter Marie Cyr, born April 19, 1924 in Caribou Maine. Her Father was Carise Theodule Cyr, born May 6, 1889...Her mother was Rose Marie Pelletier born July 28, 1889. Carise was the son of Theodule Cyr(Jan 1849) and Sophie Clavette(May, 1858)...Theodule was the son of Joseph Cyr and Zithe Martin. That's about as far as I have been able to go. Rose Marie Pelletier had a previous marrage to Baptiste Levesque who died in 1913. I can trace that line back to the first Batiste Levesque around 1763. Any additional information would be helpfull. Thank You...

I am interested in finding my family history. I am the son of John Cyr. He was adopted into the family by Joseph and Bonnie Marie Cyr. Joseph died before I was born. He was career military man (possibly in the Air Force) who hailed from Maine. Bonnie Marie came from North Texas and settled there after Joe's passing. Bonnie passed away in 2002. They lived all over the world with extended stays in England, Germany, and California while he was in the military. They adopted two boys (one in England and one in California)--the younger of which is my father. All I can remember from what my Grandmama told me is that the name comes from a man who had 5 sons and those 5 sons changed their names from St Cyr to Cyr. Feel free to email me if you have any information. Thanks!!

Hi, Mike - I believe that you purchased some of my children's books. I've completed several more and am working on three additional, as well as involved in publishing poetry, tutoring math, and more. Separate subject - I wonder about the so-called Cyr coat of arms. Our ancestor Pierre was an indentured servant and there was no nobility in our family as I can tell. Finally, I received from my cousin Estell LeFrancois (who has been the local family genealogist) all of her research work on the Cyr family and the Doyon family which goes back to 1250 during the reign of Louis the Ninth! I'll be happy to share the information with you after I get it sorted out here. Do keep in touch. Regards, Joe

My mother was a CYR, born in Pincher Creek, Alberta. Her father was Charles Napoleon CYR, originally from the Gaspe region of Quebec. He ranched in the Pincher Creek area during the 1920s and 30s. He also had butcher shops or meat markets in Pincher Creek, Cowley, and several other nearby towns, according to my mother. The farm or ranch was about 7 miles north of Pincher Creek, on the north side of the Old Man River. Two weeks ago, my wife and I were over ther to check up on this part of our family history, and surprisingly, can up with basically a dead end. The Pincher Creek historical society apparently has little or no records of my grandparents time around the area, apart from a land office report indicating where they lived by the river. The original property is now about 60-70% covered by water from the Old Man River Dam. As a child, my mother used to tell us about her life on the ranch, srping and fall roundups my grandfather did with the neighbouring ranchers. Apparently they sold out everything about the mid 30s, moved to Saint Paul Alberta, where grandfather started another beef farm and another butcher shop. He agian sold this setup around 1945, moved to Vancouver, B.C. and started up another butcher shop. I picked up a settlement map from the museum in Pincher Creek, which shows a fair number of CYRS still in the area. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to do some real detective work and dig around for more info. Ran across Michael Cyr's family tree book there at the museum in Pincher Creek, but didn't have the time to do a thorough read of things. Only one of my mother's siblings is still alive, and she was very young when the family moved from Pincher Creek to St. Paul, so she doesn't remember anything of that time in her life, only a little bit of what she heard the family talking about, { the good old days }. My grandfather died before I was born [1947], so I never heard anything from him. I am rather interested in finding out more from this side of my family. My sister traced our fraternal side of the family back to the late 1480s in Germany several years ago, but no one thought to track mom's side. Both my maternal grandparents were from La Baie Chaleurs, Gaspe region area of Quebec. My grandmother was a FILIATRAU [?] by birth.

My great grandma was Ida Cyr 1867 Quebec City, Quebec. Her daughter was Thelma McNamee. Ida's dad was Louis Cyr of Quebec... I need his birthdate but can't find it anywhere. He was married Mar 3, 1862 to Adele Bonneville. Louis's dad was Pierre Cyr married 1818 to Catherine Vachon, Pierre's dad was Pierre Paul CYR... and on back

As far as I know this info is correct, but I have no birthdates for any of them, or death dates. I don't even remember when or where I got the info. It was before I knew to provide sources! =)

Hope this helps someone or maybe someone can help me with dates and such. I have more names going on back to Pierre Syre 1644, France (?) if you need them.

Im from Magdalen Islands on the east coast of Canada sun of Ludger of Joseph of Xavier of Hypolithe of Leon. I was led to beleive that we (our fammily) were all from Louis Cyre who was an Armateur from St Pierre et Miquelon. That was based upon research in the Acadian Archives of the University of Moncton NB but the link between my familly and that fellow has never been made clearly therefor i,m not sure exactly.

PS Are you from Port Alberni (lots of Cyr there) , i used to live in Tofino and Ucluelet nice part of the Country.

Oklahoma. Their daughter Gwendolynn Louise Caudle b. 1938 in Hammon, Roger Mills, OK married Bobby Joe Bradley (1935-1980) 1 Mar 1954 in Strathmore, Tulare Co. California. I am their oldest child, b. 1 Oct 1955 in Lindsay, Tulare Co., California.

I have three children in their 20's, one is married with 2 small children I have 4 step children who I helped raise and love dearly. I have 5 grandchildren through them.

I personally am a girl geek with strong christian beliefs. And I'm trying to trace my heritage for my kids and grandkids. This morning at 4:30 am I found out that grandma Dell's maiden name was Cyr. So here I am!

Also, our family believed that Delphine Cyr was native american--we had no idea she was Acadian. She wore leathers more than calico.

Thanks for having this site.

I grew up in Madawaska, Maine. I know a little about my heritage, but have grown curious to know more about how the Cyr's came to settle in Madawaska/New Brunswick. The story I was told is that there were 7 or 8 Cyr brothers that came down the St. John River and settled in the Valley.

I was glad to find your site! It is an excetpional thing to find in this day and age. Thanks, Christine

I married into the Cyr family, but not too much is known about the history because my father-in-law was adopted by a Cyr when he was a baby when his mother re-married. I know her name was Marion Pope, her married name was Maguire, then she married a Cyr. I'm sorry to be so vague on the information, but that's about all I know. Oh yeah, my father-in-law does have brothers and sisters all who live in either Mass, or New Hampshire. I would find any information you can find interesting, nice talking to you, and hope to hear back soon.

I am so overwhelmed by the number of Cyr's in the US and Canada.

My father, Wilfrid A. Cyr (1925-1988) is originally from Brooklyn, NY. They traveled a bit with my grandfather's work but finally settled in Maryland while he was in high school. After a tour in the U. S. Navy (Seabees) during WWII he married Naomi L. Bolander (1927-) in 1948. They had five daughters: Carol Lee (deceased), Linda Lee, Jo-Ann Fay, Sharon Lynn and Dawn Denise.

My grandfather, Arsene Thomas (Thomas Arsene?) was from Canada and served in the U. S. Army during WWI. He was married to Ida DuBois. In addition to my father, they had three children who survived to adulthood: Dorothy (deceased 1989), Richard and Raymond.

I've been told that I, too, am related to Louis Cyr (the strongman) but I don't know how exactly. My grandmother told of family reunions where he would lift the family with his back from under a platform. I very much enjoyed the bio of him in the guestbook... thanks!

Keep up the good work. This is great!

I was born in Montreal, Que. 1950/07/27, lived in different part of Canada and now retired after of 33+ career in the RCMP. Through correspondence of an aunt of my father I traced my roots back to Pierre SIRE (born 1664 arrived in Acadie around 1668). I would like to check in the Canadian Archives if there is any records of the arrival of any ships from LaRochelle possibly with passenges lists. Is there any information as to the name of the vessel on which they arrived? Also the booklet I got the info from mentioned that all the Cyr (Sire, Syre, Syr, Cyr) originate from Northern France around the Dunquerque area. SIRE to me looks like there is Brithish connection to the Family. As anyone traced the family back to England?

Many Cyr family members are in this book. How I am related to the Cyr family is through my second husband, Kenneth Charles Cyr from Huson,
Montana. His father is Frank Cyr and I believe the ancestry comes down from Canada. Thank you.

Hi. I'm researching my husband's family tree. I received quite a bit of information from his uncle but it doesn't add up when I went to verify it. I would like to buy a copy of your book if possible. Maybe it will shed some light on all of this. The people I'm having problems verifing are Isaie Cyr b. abt 1839 and Firmin Cyr b. abt. 1756. The information I received says that Firmin is Isaie's father. That can't be right. I'm sure I'm missing a person. I know who Firmin's children were but I can't link any of them to Isaie. Please let me know how I can buy a copy of your book. Thank you.

Born: 11 October 1863 in St. Cyprien de Napierville, Quebec
Died: 10 November 1912

Louis Cyr was in his first strongman competition at the age of 17, when he faced Michaud of Quebec. The young man defeated the reigning Canadian strongman by lifting a granite boulder weighing over 400 pounds. After spending some time as a lumberjack, Cyr became a professional strongman, touring all over the United States and Europe.

At the height of his career, Cyr stood only 5'10" tall but he weighed over 300 pounds and had a 60" chest when it was expanded (55.2" normally). Several of his weightlifting feats and strongman stunts have been exaggerated over the years but some were documented and are still considered impressive today. Examples: he back-lifted a platform holding eighteen men; he lifted 553 pounds off the floor with one finger; he pushed a freight car up an incline.

One of Cyr's most-talked about stunts occured on 10 December 1891 in Montreal. Four horses were tied to his arms (two on each side) and, while the grooms whipped and urged the horses to pull, Cyr managed to restrain all of them.

Louis Cyr died in 1912 and many say he ate himself to death. The official cause, however, was listed as chronic nephritis.

We are very proud of the fact that he was awarded the best geneology or family history in the Percy Foy Competition sponsored by La Societe Genealogique Canadienne-Francaise. Dad was one of nine children; his father was Louis A. Cyr and his mother was Laura Franck from Limestone ME. Dad passed away this past July 27th, one and a half hours before his 94th birthday. Hi Mike, I rediscovered by roots when travelling through Grand Pre in the early 90's. I subsequently attended a family Cyr reunion of the Cyr's who ended up in Baie des Chaleurs in Que in 1996. It was organized by Roger Cyr who has published a history book of the geneology of these brothers and the ancestors from Pierre of the 1st Generation in Canada. It will be interesting to swap info as I have also entered many cyr names etc in the "family Tree Maker" software..Im sure we courd benefit each other and perhaps even meet as we live relatively close by.

(NOTE: If anyone tries to email me - I use filters, so I can't receive email unless you're on my address list)

I've been given the incredibly generous gift of my relatives' shared research. I'm VERY THANKFUL.

However, I'm also curious. Many of us are descended from Pierre Cyr & Marie Bourgeois (info on Marie's family is available a couple of generations back, her father, Jacques-Jacob BOURGEOIS, was a surgeon in Acadia, appears in history books, and I have some names and potential dates of his ancestors, though no documents to prove it).

I'm becoming very curious about Pierre's ancestors in France. Has anyone attempted to find information from "Tourraine-en-Loire, France"? What was Pierre's life like, that he would undertake what was, at that time, an incredibly harsh and expensive journey over the ocean for the rest of his life? We know that he was a gunsmith - did he learn his trade in France? There could be trade records if so, or newspaper accounts.

My French is even less than weak, so I was hoping that a French speaker may have attempted it.

Mike - I will turn off my email filters until Wednesday pm, June 25, 2003, if you'd like to email me. I can put your email address into my book and we can correspond.

I can tell you my direct descent, if you're interested.

My name is Joseph A. Cyr III. I currently reside outside of Nashville, TN. I am the Son of Joseph A. Cyr Jr. & Miriam Cyr (McCann). Born in Brooklyn, NY. Age 48. My father was born in Cohoes, NY and had a sister Jeannette who married a man by the name of Stanley Zumback. They resided in Cohoes NY until their deaths some years ago. My Grandfather was also called Joseph or Albert. I don't know what his wife's maiden name was as she died when my father was very young and I never asked him. I do have their wedding picture though if it would be any help.

I do know my father's family resided in Cohoes, NY for most of their life and passed away there. From what I remember of what my father told me (he is now passed away), our family goes back to 6 brothers who immigrated to Montreal or Quebec, Canada and made their way into New Hampshire and the New England area down into Northern NY. I was always told that I had French-Canadian roots. I do know for a fact that my great, great Uncle was the famous strongman Louis Cyr from Canada. I see most people here are also related to him. I guess we all are in some way or another.

That is about all I know of my roots. Thanks for this web site.

My father is a Cyr and I have been having trouble finding the link back but he said he was a second cousin to Louis Cyr (Strongman). I have recently just started my family tree and have been having a great time researching. My husband's name is William and we have 2 daughters, Jessica and Shannon. Sorry, I clicked out too early. My father is Armand Cyr born in Bedford Canada, he was baptized Ovila Cyr but changed his name. His father was Leopold Cyr and his mother was Olive Trahan. Olive died in childbirth and Leopold then married Mary Jane Cromwell. Leopold's father was Joseph and he married a couple times. One wife's name was Emma Bordeaux (unsure of the spelling), the other wife I'm not sure but may have been Aurelie Samson. I am trying to find out what was Joseph Cyr's parents name? I'm stuck at this point. And wonder if Aurlie was his first wife's name? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

My grandmother was Mary Jane Sirois of Hamlin-Fort Kent, Me. area. Her second husband was Charles J. Cyr. She had 2 children by him, Geraldine and Donald Cyr. My Aunt Gerry had 2 daughters, Jane & Joan, and my Uncle Don, after whom I am named, had one daughter, Barbara. I still remember many wonderful vacations up there. They had a gas station and store at the foot of a steep hill. The rear of the property went down and back to the St. John's River and I used to try to skip stones across into Canada. My mother and all my other Aunts and Uncles were Sirois. Six made it to adulthood, 4 others are buried up there, several died during the influenza epidemic of 1917. During my research of our family I have been trying to find out whay happened to my Uncle Willy (William) Sirois. He disappearred many, many years ago. He was from Ct. but he could have returned to Maine. Any info would be apprciated. I don't know if any of the above fits into anyone elses Cyrs. I don't even know if my Step-grandpa Charles Cyr had any siblings.

My father Roger, son of Leon, was born and raised in Van Buren, Maine. I grew up in Detroit where the Cyr name was unpronouncable and alien. I always got a kick out of going "home" to Van Buren on vacations and seeing my last name on billboards, professional offices, real estate signs, etc. I was a little overwhelmed by how many Cyr relatives I had and at the time did not feel too attached to some of the numerous more removed cousins especially since at that time (1960s-70s) French was the family language and I didn't understand it. My sister is 5 yrs older and appreciated and remembered the family connections-fortunately. Now I have three children here in California and would like to take a trip back and show them a place where Cyr is not pronounced cry or sir or sire!
Thanks for the site, Mike, and hello to all the Cyr cousins.

I was born in Chicago, IL, July 9, 1939, son (and only child) of Theodore Arthur Cyr. He was born in Birchwood, WI, about 1904, died in 1950; his father's name was Frank Cyr - and that's as far as I can go. I believe my Grandfather met my Grandmother, name Adeline Patnode (or something like that) near Red Lake Falls, MN. After they married, my grampa worked on the railroad and settled in Birchwood. They raised 10 children: Joseph; Abraham, Peter, Ruben & Theodore, The girls were: Rosa, Minnette, Lillian, Dora & Alice. Wish I had birthdays and such, but they're all gone, now, and nobody in the family has any records.

I am 56 years of age and my roots are from Newport, Gaspé. My Grandfather, Élie Cyr was born in Newport and his father and brothers owned fishing vessels. At a young age, Élie sold his share of fishing vessels and came to Ottawa, Ontario to get married and start a new vocation in the hotelrie business. He bought a tavern on the Market, The former Hotel Cyr which burned and then he purchased the former Dominion House tavern, sold after his death. He met his wife, Clarilda Touchette from Casselman, Ontario, married and had 8 sons and 6 daughters.

When he passed away, the tavern was sold and his children went their separate ways in various fields of work, Police, Prison Guard, Milkman, Waiter, Brewery and Firemen. All of the elder sons went overseas during the second world war and one, the youngest was drafted during the Korean war. My grandfather had permission to keep one of his sons to run the tavern, my father Jules. Jules was the second youngest of the boys but according to the military, old enough to help with his father's business. The youngest, still alive today, was still in school when the second world war was declared but he enlisted in the 50's for Korea. My grandmother received honours from Britain for having such a great number of sons sent overseas during the war and all came back unharmed.

We still have relatives in the Baie des Chaleurs Gaspé, more specifically in Newport.

According to information I received from a cousin in Newport, Alexandre Cyr, I would be the seventh or eighth generation of Cyrs in Canada.

The family of Cyrs that I was raised with brings only good memories to mind, memories that I could live over and over again.

I am a Coordinator in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment and two years away from retirement. I am employed by the Federal Government.

Today, the offsprings of those 8 brothers are either police officers or firemen. Being too light when younger, I was unable to become either. Nothing wrong with my height but putting on weight was not easy for me. Today, I can't seem to keep the weight off. Not letting this bother me, I graduated in the Occupational Health and Safety field and I am living my dream as a darn good investigator.

Congratulation on your website, you did a lot of research and excellent work.

Thank you kindly,

André Cyr and proud of my name.

Hello.

This is further to my previous e-mail (same date). I would like to be a little more specific concerning my family line and I would very much appreciate any help that any Cyr cousins can provide me with so that I can find the names of my grandfather's brothers and sisters.

My grandfather Jacques Cyr AKA Jim AKA James was born on 26 July 1870, in St Leonard, Madawaska County, New Brunswick (Canada). Jacques married Josephine Viel, in Cabano, Quebec, on 30 September 1901. They had 15 children, all born in Squatec (Quebec); three of them are still living.

Jacques's parents were Pierre Cyr and Elodie Clothilde Cyr who got married in St Basile, New Brunswick, on 9 November 1852. Pierre's parents were Antoine Cyr and Rufine Leblanc, who got married in Carleton (Quebec?) on 17 January 1809. Elodie's parents were Joseph Cyr and Victoire Martin. Rufine's parents were Benjamin Leblanc and Judith Comeau.
Antoine Cyr's parents were Jean-Baptiste Cyr and Judith Dumont-Guérette. Antoine and Judith got married in Kamouraska (Quebec) on 12 January 1767. Judith's parents were Jean-Baptiste Dumont-Guérette and Madeleine Laplante. Jean-Baptiste Cyr's parents were Jean-Baptiste and Marguerite Cormier who got married in Beaubassin on 26 January 1734. Jean-Baptiste Cyr's parents were Jean Sire and Françoise Melanson. Jean Sire's parents were Pierre Sire and Marie Bourgeois.

My mother, Hélène Cyr, born in 1908, used to correspond (in the 50s and 60s) with some of her cousins in St Leonard, N.B. One of them was Maggie.

Also, I would like to correspond with Cyr cousins of my family branch.

Thank you kindly.

Hello.

I recently found your site which is very interesting. My mother's maiden name was Cyr. Her father, Jacques AKA Jim AKA James was born in St Leonard, Madawaska County, N.B., in July 1870. He died in Squatec (QC) in May 1950.

My grandfather's parents were Pierre and Elodie Clothilde Cyr who were married in St Basile, N.B., on 9 Nov 1852. Apparently that my grandfather was the youngest of the family and he had several brothers and sisters. I have done a lot of research on the Audet and Leblanc Families. My father-in-law, Joseph Charles Eugene audet but went by Eugene Charles Audet, was born in Three Rivers to Isadore and Albertine LeBlanc- Audet. Came to Detroit, MI in 1926 with his parents, brother Paul Emil and . All are deceased except Gemma (Jenny).

We (Eugenes 4 children and 2 youngest geandsons)whole family)took him back home for the last time in July of 1994. So he could show us where he was born. It was a wonderful memory for his children especially since he died just short of a year after the trip. At first it was suppose to be only my husband Charles, Mom and Dad going on the trip by train. But when we told the rest of the family they asked if they could come also. So then the plans grew.
This trip was made possible because of the Generosity of Irene and Charles an Ida and Maurice LeBlancs Hospitality.
And the events that were set in motion for our visit. They planned a surprise 40th anniversary for Irene and Maurice's younger brother, Gerard and his wife. We met well over 100 relatives that day/evening including some Cyrs.
we visted Dad's birth farm, his grandparents Alexander and Josephine Cyr-LeBlanc farm that left the family the year before. But the new owner was very generous and took us through the home. As Dad sat in a old rocking chair relating stories of his memories of his Grandparents you could see the pride he had of then and there with all his children and spouses.
The trip was hard on him. He laughed and cried.

When planning this trip a friend said to me what happens if your father-in-law dies on the trip. Will his death be held against you because it was your idea. I was totally schocked to have this question put to me. ( Dad was in very poor health at the time we asked him if he would like us to toke him home for a visit and by train the same way he came here. And his answer was "Hell yes". We all laughed at his response. He was 83 at the time. So I checked with his doctor and he said yes he could die but if he did his family would be with him and if he didn't go and he could die alone. And the girls and Charles said the same thing. Istill get from the girls how thankful they are for giving them such memories. Ones that they will cherish the rest of their lives.

I have met some wonderful relatives that I keep in contact with. One Is Joseph Audet's family. He was the son of Charles. He has died also. But his wife Alice is a real sweet heart. We talk about every six weeks. Plus the LeBlancs

Both my husband and I are in our late 50's. He is retired. Loves to do woodworking. And I love doing this research. I do have some Cyr material but not a lot and it is not on computer as of yet.

Do you know of a monument of Nicholas Audet somewhere there in the Quebec? If so is it possible to get a photo of it and let me know where it is located>

I hope that this helps a bit

Sincerely,

Josephine ANN Shuler-Audet

I live in Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. There are many other Cyrs in the Fort Qu'Appelle Area but they are all First Nations and not related to me directly.

As to your question in your letter. Most of the First Nations Cyrs are from either Pasqua Reserve or Gordon's Reserve. I don't know any of the Cyrs you mentioned in your letter and neither does my father.

I became interested in family history while I was working in Eastern Europe in 2000 - couldn't understand Tv at night so I prowled the internet. My husband wanted to find out more about his family - his father had died very young- and I took on the task as a research project. Luckily we had some information written in 1977 by his Aunt Cora Cyr Martin (1891-1987). It was a string to pull at and the internet made that possible from abroad. Later the Maine Archives and National Archives as well as Library of Congress and Mike Cyr provided me with the most direct, useful information on 17th,18th & 19th century ancestors. Thank you. I check the website regularly and would like to contribute some of the stories and biographies for others.

I am Carol Cyr from Brooks, Alberta, Canada and am very interested in genealogy and am presently searching out my husband's Cyr line. I have been successful in searching his grandmother Cyr's line ... the Lemieux, Patenaude, Gagne line, but I need some help on his grandfather Cyr's line. My husband is Henry Walter (Jim) Cyr, who was born in Brooks, Alberta ... his father was Joseph Albert Victor Cyr, who was born in Red Lake Falls, Minn. and was married to Alma Bannick ... Albert's father was Henry Cyr who was born in Barton, Orleans, Vermont and was married to Marie Frezilda Lemieux ... Henry's father was Charles Cyr, who was born in St. Morrisette County, Quebec and was married to Vitaline Guethier ... Charles father was Joseph Cyr and was married to Maria Lafond. I haven't been able to locate St. Morrissette, so my research is at a stand still ... can anyone help me ... is anyone connected to the Joseph Cyr and Maria Lafond who probably lived in the Quebec area and were born in the early 1800's? Also does anyone know where St. Morrissette is in Quebec? I am sure as I get into this research that we will connect with Pierre Sire. Hoping to hear from someone ... until then, I remain an eager genealogist. Carol Cyr

I forgot to mention that I have sent for Wilfred's birth cert., but it's taking a while. I also have his death cert., but info on parents is wrong, they have the wrong names.Wilfred's mother, Corinne died 10 years ago, & both my mom & grandmother knew her as his mother. Also, my maiden name was Landry. I thought it was ironic to see Cyr & Landry's married. Thanks

Hi!
I am researching my family tree. My grandfather is Romeo Cyr. The only info that I have about him is that he is French-Canadian, he plays the guitar and that he helped build Cindarella's Castle in Walt Disney World, Orlando, FL sometime in the 1970's. My grandmother was Lillian (?) Cyr. She was born 10/8/1927 and died 12/26/1991 in Crawfordville, FL. She was originally from West Virginia. My father is Denver Edward Cyr, Sr. He was born 3/4/1953 in Logan, WV. My grandmother has at least one sister that I know of that still lives in WV. I do not know her name.

Any info that anyone has would be both helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

Well, I was doing a research project (for the 10th grade in high school), about my cultural identity and such. I came across this website!! I know I am related to everyone here...because I received a shirt and plaque from my grandma with the exact same crest as shown on this page. Amazing. I am a third-generation Cyr. My Grandfather is Frank V. Cyr, and my grandmother was Margret Scott-Cyr. All that I know is my great-grandpa was Benjamin, and he came from France and then to around the New Brunswick area. If anyone would like to give me any additional information, if possible, please do so! Nice to meet you all!

I currently live in Austin, Texas. I just moved down last summer from Iowa. It gets way too hot here in Austin in the summer. So I envy you living in BC. My wife and I work at the Univ. of Texas. Jan Allison Moore (wife) is a professor in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I am a multimedia specialist / photographer that creates educational websites and courseware support for the Col. of communication. We have one boy, Ian Forrest Bavousett. He will turn four in May. Jan lived in Calgary, Montreal, and Yellowknife for about 8 years providing Audiological Health Sciences services to the People of Canada. So we both have Canadian ties.
Here is the family line as I know it.
Pierre Sire>Guillaume>Louis Joseph Cyr>Joseph>David>Zephyren>Frank Zwphyren>Archil Frank>Louise Ethel Cyr Odell>Mary Lou Odell Bavousett>Rex Bavousett
With assistance from my mother, Mary Lou, I am importing all data I find on the Cyr family as well as the Bavousett (S. France), Odell (N. Ireland), and a few other family names. I do not yet have any connection to family information that goes back across to Europe other than the family member that immigrated to North America. So it would be interesting to find out more in this realm. My parents went to the Cyr family reunion in Quebec about two years ago. It would be fun to go sometime.
Looking forward to seeing the newsletter.

Their son Herbert Milton McGee is my father. I wonder if you know Marie Cyr Caughy (spelling) who lived in Vancouver, BC. I think whe was my grandmother's step sister.

I've been searching for about a year now about family. I'm slowly learning how to do it and who some of my relations are. I know there are Morin lines, Fourtin lines, Barton/Bertrand, Remillards and Cyrs, Manseau line, and Doucette lines. Hard to keep up with.
I hope we are able to share information and find some matches.

Thanks,

Terea

Dear Mike, sorry to clutter up your guestbook, but I clicked out too soon. My paternal great grandmother was Marie Cyr, b1827 in New Brunswick, married Calixte Michaud and lived in the Ft. Kent Maine area. I had the chance to go back to Kamouraska, Que (home land of the Michauds) and Ft. Kent three summers ago. I have a nice pic of Caliste's/Marie's headstone. I'm a lover of genealogy and all the neat ancestors I can find. Thanks so much for your great site and I look forward to more contact with you all. Dick

I don't know if my ancestors are related to yours or not. My gggrandmother was Elizabeth Syre. Her husband Freeman Runyon's mother was, also, a Syre. This Elizabeth was married to Joseph S. Runyon. These people all resided in Barren County, Metcalf County, and Monroe County Kentucky. Freeman and Elizabeth were born about 1833/34. This Elizabeth was raised by Thomas Siry, but he doesn't seem to be her father. The other Elizabeth was born about about 1806. All of these people were born in Kentucky. The name Syre is spelled so many different ways. I have found Cyre, Cyr, Cryee, Shirey, Shire, Sirey, Siry, Syre, Syra etc. I don't know if any of my ancestors are from the same tree or not. I do know that the Runyons were originally from Vincent Rongnion or Rougnion and that he was a French Houginout. There were several other Syres in Barren County during that tim, they were: John and Martha, Archibald, Edward, George, Eliza, Thomas, Asa F.

I have been in contact with Liz Cyree from Harrison County, Corydon, Indiana (which is were Freeman and Elizabeth and Thomas Sirey Jr. moved). So as you can see the name seems to be spelled many different ways. Any advice as to whether these family tie into the Cyr family would be greatly appreciated.

Their grandparents are Arthur Pierre Cyr and Mattie Marie Beaulieu. Arthur's parents were Arthur A Cyr and Marie Violette. Arthur Pierre was born in Grand Isle, ME on 11/12/1909.

I have just started looking into creating a family tree for both my mother and father. I decided to start with dad's side of the family. I reaaly do not have a lot to go on and I would appreciate anything that you may have to help out. If we don't have any close relationship, maybe you can give me some hints on where to go next to get some help.

Thanks for your help; hope to hear from you soon.
