William Webb came here in 1748 from England with a wife and nine children, to work for George Washington as a recorder in his surveying team. William came thru a northern harbor, he was a school teacher and a court recorder for the county of Tazewell, Washington and Russel. He was a graduate of Oxford University in England. His wife was an Oney. You can find about him in the Washington county history. Washington County Virginia was the cradle of the western movement. Many people research the records for ancestors.

Gus Webb, a great uncle, went out to Kansas and Oklahoma. His family was out west, and he went to stay with some cousins, his wife got land in Oklahoma and he got land that joined it in Kansas.
In the history of Russel County, and Tazewell county there are some interesting Webb names. One webb mountain. An elderly man wrote about people from the area and about what they did, where they went and gave older names. One name was ?Smith Webb.

Frantie and Flossie Webb were my Grandmother's sisters. Their mother died not long after they were born. They were my great aunts. I have several of their paintings and have been trying to track down others which I know exist as we had seen them in the attic of Uncle Roy Webb. We were able to bring some of them back to Oregon, but dozens more are out there. I was especially interested in the painting you had on display. I do believe that was in my Mother's possession and was wondering how you came about to have the picture of it.

Ken

I have been researching my husband's ancestry, in detail since he passed away in 2009. I am just learning the links, etc. Having acquired some significant pieces of information and after reading your guestbook today, I decided to make the leap to contact you. I have tried before and could never get through.

My husband was William Henry Parker. He was born Sept. 21, 1933 in Council BLuffs, Iowa. His father was Clyde Webb Parker, his mother, Lucy Katherine Sigsbee(from Capt. Sigsbee family, famous capt of The Maine) and a sister, Clydeline. Clyde Webb Parker's sister was Jessie Parker, who married Chauncy Wiltse Kremer. Clyde rode for the Pony Express. He also worked for Union Pacific RR in the roundhouse for years and died in Tampa in the 1950s.

Bill was named for his grandfather, William Henry Parker who farmed in Fullerton Ne and was married to Lizzie E. Webb. He died in fullertion around 1934. William Henry's father's name was Henry and he was married to a Ruth Bray. That is all I can give you at this time as I must run, but I have more information, too. Hope I hear from you. Bill always wanted to more about his grandfather, his namesake. He was well connected in Fullerton..on bank boards, owned a grainery, 300+ acre farm, which was sold in the early 1960s... etc. I need alot of information. I don't know if there is a fee to work with you so I need to know that, as well. I am very new at all of this and all of my research thus far has been through google and those links. I had noticed your message a number of times that you had been searching specifically for Bill's grandfather and grandmother. So, finally I decided to contact you. I know this is very long. I think what you are offering is wonderful. Now that Bill is gone, I want to acquire information and share with his only sister(still living in Council Bluffs) Clydeline.

This was much longer than I had planned.

Geri

I am in pursuit of information regarding any familial pancreatitis in the Webb family. The disease apparently came through Sarah Webb, born 1830, Tennessee, who married Thomas Yearout. They had a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Yearout, my grandmother, who married Robert P. Ridings. I always thought the disease came through the Ridings family, but, at a Yearout reunion, I found Webb family members had the disease, therefore, I'm thinking it came through Nancy's mother, Sarah Webb. Any info you can provide would be helpful.

My gg-grandfather was William Douglas Webb, b @1813 somewhere in NJ, died 1896 in Marion County, Alabama. He's my brick wall. Born in New Jersey of an Indian mother, he ran away to sea at age of 14. Stayed at sea 14 years, debarked at Mobile, AL. In 1842, he is on record marrying Louisa H. Boyd, in Tuscaloosa, AL. He lost track of his New Jersey family, but late in life corresponded with "old maid sister," who told him his father "married again and raised up a whole new family." William had 4 brothers who "went West," and "a bunch of sisters." Am trying to track his NJ family. Thanks. Love your site.

You have wonderful web pages, especially the photos. I was attracted to your sight because I have Webbs and McCormicks. My Webbs appear to have arrived in the mid 1600's and moved on the Maine.
The McCormicks are my roadblock. My mother's grandfather (Robert McCormack) died in a railroad accident in the Chicago area in 1916 when he was 31 years old. All that anyone living can remember is that they "think" his people were from PA and then moved on to McHenry Co., IL. If I come across anything relative to your families, I'll pass it on.

I noticed that you mention jefferson county new york. My Flint ancestors immigrated from Ct. to Vt. to Oneida and Jefferson Ny. I am descended from Asa Flint, son of Benjamin, son of Nathaniel Jr. and Bethiah Cheney. There was no information on Asa when I started over a year ago. After much research, including finding other living ancestors, I now have photos and old letters. It has been rewarding.

I really enjoyed reading all the posts in the guestbook.

I think everyone's tree starts with a John Webb! I really love searching. One of my John Webbs married into the Boone family. One of my John Wilcoxsons married Sarah Cassandra Boone, sister of Daniel Boone.

My Webbs settled in Anderson and Campbell County Tennessee.

George Washington Webb, b. 1794 in Va., died 1851 in Tn.
He was married to Elizabeth. He was my ggg grandfather.

My line begins with their son, John Webb, b. 1824, Coal Creek, Anderson Co., Tn; He died after 1880.He was married to Martha J. Herrell; He was my gg grandfather.

Their son, Powell Andrew Webb, b. 1850, is my great-grandfather. He was married to Emily Sorey.

Powell's son, James Elvin Webb, b. 1884 in Anderson Co., is my grandfather. He died in 1968 in Ky. He was married to Ada Poley, daughter of John Poley and Alwinnie Ayers.

I hope someone searching for Webbs makes some connection. By the way, I have lots of pages on the Webbs provided to me my a now deceased third cousine, Julie Parrish, who was an actress. You can still visit her website at www.julieparrish.com Her real name was Ruby Joyce Wilbar.

Hi
I'm searching for information on 4 Webb men. My Mother refered to them as her Uncles and I believe they were half brothers to my Grandmother Ada Lee (Sherrill)Corey,
Their Mother's name would have been: Catherine Sherrill;by her 1st marriage to Isaac N. Sherrill(he died in 1880). I believe she then married a man named "Webb"and had at least three more children; May Bell (married name 'Smith' I think) and two sons;Charles F. Webb - B:24 March 1885 and John F. Webb - B:8 Feb 1888. The other two Webb men must be the sons of one or both of the above two. I have pictures of these two and they appear to be about my Mothers age. These two were named; Harry Webb and Haywood Webb.
The Mother; Catherine lived in Indiana when my Grandmother was born but she later moved to Putnam County, Missouri.
Catherine is my Great Grandmother and all I have on her is her B: 11 May 1845 and D: 27 August 1895. I'm trying to find the Webbs in hopes of also finding Catherine's maiden name. Hoping that maybe "Haywood Webb" is an unusual enough name that it may be possible to find him. They would not be alive now but their descendant Webbs are out there somewhere and I have several nice photos of them.
Haywood and Harry must have lived in the St, Louis, Missouri area because my Mother grew up there and the photos were taken there. Any help in finding these Webb men would be greatly appreciated!

I am researching a James Webb, born in MA about 1802, later moved to Jefferson Co., Ny. He lived in Alexandria and Orleans township. I found your Erastus born 1820 in Henderson. I have been trying to find some siblings of James Webb, have many probabilities but no direct proof of any relationships. My James Webb and his family (James Jr, Merritt, Edmund, Innes and Marietta) moved to Sheboygan Co, WI by 1850. The similariy of Erastus moving to Wi about the same time. Perhaps James Sr. could have been Erastus' uncle. Do you have any information on his father? Webb has turned out to be a much more common name than I imagined! Plus many people were moving to Wi at that time, so could be pure coincidence. Just curious if you had any other info.

Sincerely,
Debbie Mills

He married 3 times and had children by all wives. His sons were among the founders of the town of Anderson, SC. He was a prominent person in his area. Nancy Webb was his daughter by his second wife, Catherine Stribling, and married her step-brother, Henry Terry, Jr. The Striblings were a prominent Virginia family intermarried with the Catletts and Taliaferros. My maternal grandmother was Mary Bertha Borland Owings of Jackson County, Missouri. I believe they came from Johnson County, Missouri around the time of the Civil War. It appears possible that they originated in New York state coming to this country - evidently, most Borland ("Boar Land")come from Scotland. The history I have is limited to Missouri mostly.

I have family marriages of Cook-Hollingsworth and Smith-Brown (Quakers)in MD-VA-PA 1600s-1700s. Two fellows named Sherman Miner Parker b. abt 1820 and 1842 (father & son)who may not have been named for the famous general and I can't place them anywhere but Gallia Co., OH and NE.
So, I keep searching for connections--and sometimes I'm lucky.

My paternal grandmother was Elizabeth A. Buffington. Her father Franklin Abraham Buffington, Abraham Buffington, his father, was the son of Joel Buffington and his mother was Elizabeth Logan. Joel was the owner of Buffington Island which is now a State Park in Ohio. Joel's Father was William Buffington, mother Magdalena Ferree. Thomas Buffington, William's Father was married to Ruth Cope. The first Buffington to come to America was Richard, Thomas Father, he came over in 1675. Ann Frances was Richard's first wife. The Buffington's were Quakers. Richard becames a Calvinist in 1699 but Thomas remained a Quaker. Later William moved to Virginia and owned slaves for a short period as did his sons. I have a lot of information about this line and others if your interested I would be happy to share. My Buffington's start in Pennsylvania 1675. They move to Virginia which changes to West Virginia. Buffington Island, while they lived there was part of West Virginia and Ohio. The State eventually takes the land for a park refusing to believe Joel was the owner. I have searched for years to find where William and Joel are buried but I believe they are buried on the island and the location has been lost. My line then moves to Ohio then Jefferson, Illinois. I was told my 2nd great grandfather was Philip Buffington but I've never found proof of that. I only have a marriage for Philip. Abraham's second wife list Joel as a legal heir of Abraham when she sells property after his death to pay debts. My great grandfather Joel had moved to Missouri with his wife Elizabeth Gaston after their last child was born, about 1850. They settled in South Eastern Missouri.
Hope I can help. My son is getting married tomorrow but I'll be back on the trail of family in a few days.
Sydna

I am searching for my family, Spencer, Blackburn, Root, Reynolds. The Spencers came from Connecticut, then to New York, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas and to Oregon. The Blackburns came from PA. The one picture resembled Will Reynolds who lived in Kansas. Except for the Smith name, none are familiar. Some of your family seemed to travel the same way as mine. Thanks.
