I have traced possible family tree back to 1841 census in Scotland.I would like to think that they came from Ireland but don't know.
William and Walter Shields were two names that reoccur regularly, including my own brother Walter.
I have Irish connections on my mother's side. Her mother was from around Avoca south of Dublin with the wonderful easily traceable name of Smith-(bit of sarcasm there)
Thanks for your lovely site.

Name: Barbara Hendrick Hugus <barbarahugus@hotmail.co> Date: 2006-04-29 Irish Family Surname Hendrick Comments:
My great-grandfather Thomas P. Hendrick arrived in Nantucket.MA in 1856 after a shipwreck. Town records list his birthplace as "New Hoss",Wexford and his father as Pierce of New Hoss.(I suspect this was a mis-spelling of New Ross?) The story passed down through the years has been that the Hendrick family emigrated from Holland to Ireland and "became more Irish than the Irish themselves". I am trying to do some genealogical research about the Hendrick family and came upon a reference to your having some information about their move to Ireland. If you can tell me anything at all--or suggest how I should proceed--I'd like very much to hear from you.

Hello. I was checking for a train from Dublin to the Giant Causeway for a day trip. I came across your site. We are cautious about driving in Northern Ireland and this is one thing my daughter & grands want to see. What did you think of the train ride? I'm not good with heights so is there a lot of mts? I appreciate any info you can pass on. We will be there 2 weeks. Had planned on 3, but with the Euro vs our money dropping we think we should just spend 2 weeks & pack in more stuff. We live near Seattle. My daughter, my mom & I did go to Ireland 16 yrs ago but didn't see any of N. Ireland or the Donegal Penn. Fran
