I ran across your site while researching my family. My grandfather was Charlie Lafayette Riley, son of George Washington Riley and Hulda Mellott. I met Ray and Myrtle Cain when I was out visiting the Riley side of the family in Spokane, Rosalia, and Pomeroy, WA areas when I was a child in 1968, just days before my father, John Hartley Riley, passed away. I knew that they were working on the family history because they spoke about it when we were there and they were in communication with my aunt, Bernice Riley Feather. I did not realize anyone had taken up thier work. I am researching the Riley tree and would appreciate any information on the WA Riley connection that I can find. I have the PA Riley's on Ancestry. Thanks!

Hi Mike –
I recently came across your very nice “Remmen Family Historyö and noticed a possible connection to my ancestry in Norway. It is only a possibility, but I wanted to find out if you might have some additional information that might establish a connection.
You list an ancestor named Elling Simonsen Bødal (1624-1665) who lived in Nordfjord. He had a son, Elling Ellingsen Bødal (1650- ?).
This is quite interesting because I have an ancestor named Knut Ellingsen Rønneberg (1660-1727), who lived on a farm named Rønneberg in Norddal, which is on Norddalsfjord in Møre og Romsdal.
However, we have never been able to document the father of Knut Ellingsen Rønneberg, or where he might have lived. I wonder if his father might have been Elling Simonsen Bødal, and his brother, Elling Ellingsen Bødal? The years match very well, and this could make sense, since Knut would be a younger brother and would not have inherited the family farm – a reason to move away to a farm in Norddal.
Do you by any chance have documentation that would indicate if Elling Simonsen had a son named Knut, or Elling Ellingsen had a brother named Knut?
It would be great to find out if you have any information about this. As an aside, I have had YDNA testing done, and the haplogroup of my paternal lineage is “G2a3b,ö which is very unusual for Norway. If your ancestor Elling (b.1650) and my ancestor Knut (b.1660) were brothers, and you are a direct-line paternal ancestor of Elling Ellingsen Bødal, then your YDNA would also be “G2a3b.ö
Best Regards,
Rolf

Wonderful site! Thanks for all of the hard work! I'm a Cain from SC (James Oscar Cain-sailed to Charleston 1750's on a cheeseboat) Also found my Irish MOORE folks here. Still don't know where James Oscar Cain, Sr. originated from across the sea. Any ideas? His boat sailed from Wales but that could just be the point of departure. I'll spend many happy hours with your site, thanks again. Liz Cain - Whitefish, Montana

I live in Australia and I am researching my Cain Family. I was researching a Robert James Cain and have a marriage certificate of a Robert James Cain who married an Ivy Jane Hines in Narrabri NSW Australia 1923. The Marriage certificate states a witness to the marriage was Grace Garland altered to Grace Ireland. My question is; does your family have a have a connection to Australia which includes the surname Cain/Garland. The Robert James Cain descendant's know little of what happened to their grandfather and great grandfather both named as Robert James Cain.
I must congratulate you on you comprehensive F/Tree site.

I would be interested in any information on the following CAIN Family. I have done our line of CAIN Genealogy back to-
Thomas CAIN B. c1775 Statisfield Farm, Kent County, England D. 1828 Thurness, England. It is understood all the CAIN's originally were from one of the five names who came from the Isle of Man, a Scottish Island, and part of Clan Ian Moure, part of McDonalds of the Isles.
His son Henry CAIN 1799-1891 arrived in America in 1851 and went directly to Cleveland, OH, eastside. I have his naturalization papers.
Son Joseph CAIN 1834-1911 Bible, c.1846, said he "landed in NY, 4 Nov 1851. He came to Cleveland, OH, 9 Nov 1851."
Son Benjamin Joseph CAIN 1874-1946 b. Cleveland, OH d. Toledo, OH

Hi, I'm so excited to have found your family tree information. I'm a descendent of Heinrich Dick (born 2 October 1852 in Norka Russia and married to Dorothea Weber). If you're interested, I can provide data on all of his descendents. We're having a Dick family reunion in North Dakota this summer & are updating our family tree data.

I believe that Phillip Dormaier of Quincy, WA was my great-
grandfather or great uncle. My grandfather's name was Christian and my grandmother's was Clara Rosina Rodunner. I live and farm in Hartline, WA which is also in Grant County but north and east of Quincy. My grandparents moved here from Quincy (via Ruff and Wilson Creek) in the late 1920's, barely survived the Great Depression here, but did well afterward. The fifth generation of the Grant County, WA Dormaiers are mostly grown now and the sixth is starting to appear.

Having a family tree of all descendants of John Cain (possibly Keen) and Sarah Stevenson, both of Ballygigan, who came to New Zealand in 1859, and the names of others who lived in Ireland prior to that date, it is interesting to find any other family connections that may be existing throughout the world. The Cain family came from the Raffrey/Killinchy area of Northern Ireland. If there is any possible contact out there, I would love to hear from you. Paul C

Just searching rootsweb for my Day relatives. I connect with yours on an Ohio branch. Reading others in the database I find discrepancies back in the 1660s with other submitters. Would love to exchange info - I have had no contact with my biological family due to my parents messy divorce in the 1960s. My maiden name is Day and everything I have found has been without the help of any living relative. You have a wonderful site.

I am a granddaughter of George Wesley and Julia Rose Cain. Please notify me when that part of your research is on your site. I would love to compare info. Do you have the small booklet compiled by Joseph Marion Cain in 1980? I have heard of the Washington cousins all my life. A lady from there named Leila came to visit my parents, Cecil and Mildred, in the mid to late 70's. I was so happy to find your site. Good luck with it.

This is so impressive to see all the work you have with maps, stories, it brings the families alive. I have emailed you but your email comes back. Duh....not sure why. Are the Dormaiers connected to the Remmen's or is they part of your wife's family? I have been searching forever for Dormaiers from South Dakota. Phillip Sr. and Rosina Handel is as far as I know with nothing about them and that is what I also am wanting to pass on to my children. I've spend a lot of time just reading your site. Well just wanted to connect. Great work!!!!!
