I was playing with the computer today and after putting in my Grandfather Robert Laws name, I was surprised to see pictures that I never saw before of the family. My mother was Lola Laws Ward, youngest daughter of Robert and Delilah Laws. I knew Dora, Dilman and Pansy. It is a small world after all. I know a lot about my father's family, but not that much about the Laws.

- Paper proof that James Carter (1774) is the son of Barnett (Bernard) Carter (1737)

- Explanation of why Barnett Burnett Carter (1804), apparent son of James Carter (1774) and Juda Wade (so states on a tombstone in the Carter cemetery in Charlottesville, VA), was born in 1804, but Barnett Burnett did not marry Juda Wade until 1807.

I'm searching for my father, who was Henry Franklin Carter, from Marshall, Va.
Apparently, a Daisy Mae Crter was his sister, or some other type or relative, not sure.
My mother died many years ago, when I was much younger. Unfortunately, many of her secrets died with her because there are few things I can recall other than the names.

Hello!
When I was a child growing up in Greensboro I would look forward to the weekends because I knew there was a good chance we would be going over to Leaksville. And that meant I was going to have fun visiting with my Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. I had plenty of them too, considering that my Mother, Lillian "Tish" Carter Soots, was the youngest of thirteen children. I was never at a loss for someone to talk to or to play with.
Yes, Leaksville holds many warm, wonderful memories for me. And visiting this site brings back many of those fond memories. Thanks, Kenny, for putting this all together. I'll now be a regular visitor and if I run across any old photos, articles or anything else about Leaksville, I'll be sure to pass them on to be posted here.

My great-great-grandfather was William Carter, but I don't know which William Carter. My great-grandfather was William Alexander Barnett (W.A.B.)Carter born in Patrick County Virginia in 1824. William (1792)is my prime suspect, but I have been unable to verify this. Henry (1761) was William's uncle who died in Stokes County NC which I believe is next door to Patrick County VA?
