Mr. Ives moved to Wolflake with his wife, Polly and two sons Alexander and Oren. They had a daughter Johanna in 1834. Mr. Ives fell into a pond and drown. Polly along with the three children walked back to Covington, Ohio

Would there be any records of that era.

My son is buying the home located at 122 Riley St., Kendallville, In. We are told the home is on the Historical Registry. We are looking for any and all photos of the property (back in the day), and I saw a reference to the home which led me to your site. Is there anything you know about the home, or it's original owners that could maybe help preserve the integrity of the home? Thank you so much...

Surnames Potter, Creigh, Gill, McDaniel, Cobb
Earlist ancestor in Noble County 1844
Comments:
I am looking for information on the Potter and Creigh families who resided in Noble County from 1844 until sometime after 1880. I have several biographies:

Edmond Potter, was born in Onondaga County, N. Y., where he lived until ten years of age, after that in Ohio until twenty-one, receiving a common-school education in Richland County. In 1844, he came with his parents to Indiana, and engaged in clearing land, ect. He was married November 13, 1845, to Sarah J. Creigh whose parents Samuel A. and Lydia A. Creigh located in Wayne Township in 1844. They are both dead. Mrs. Potter is a native of Richland County, Ohio.
They lived on a rented farm in Wayne Township one year; he subsequently went to Michigan, where he drove team on public works, and worked two years for a railroad company in Niles; followed this in building a mill in the Galien woods; then was something over one year lumbering at La Porte, Indiana. He then rented a farm one year, when he bought forty acres wild land in La Porte County, which he improved for two years; then removed to Sparta Township, this county, and rented for one year; purchased sixty-five acres wood land in York Township, built a house and improved.
In three years, sold and purchased eighty acres more; improved this with house, orchard, ect., remaining five years; sold and purchased eighty acres in Elkhart Township, partly improved; sold this in six months; went to Iowa, bought ninety acres, which he cultivated one year; then sold and returned to York Township and bought his former tract of eighty acres; this he cultivated and improved for fourteen years, when the spirit of change again came over him, and he traded for his present farm in section 29, consisting of 170 acres; has a good frame house and barn and other buildings, orchard, ect.
Mr. Potter has served as Constable two years. They have ten children Amanda, Judson, Mary, Edmond H., Paul, John T., Cynthia A., William, Simon B. and Charles W. The parents of Mr. Potter were Henry and Azubah Potter; the father native of Connecticut, and died in Wayne Township, this county; the mother, native of York State, died in Elkhart County, Indiana.

Also the Gill and McDaniel family:

Abraham Gill, one among the thriving farmers of this township, was born in Union County, Penn. His parents, Jacob and Susannah Gill, were natives of the same place, and his mother died in Pennsylvania. Abraham Gill's youth was passed in the states of Pennsylvania and Ohio, attending school and farming during the summer vacations. After leaving Ohio, he came to Wells County, Ind., and purchased 80 acres of wooded land, where he built a log cabin and lived twenty-six years. He then came to Sparta Township and bought 80 acres of land partially improved, and after working it fourteen years he sold it and located on his present farm in Elkhart Township. He owns 104 acres and has improved 80 acres upon which is a good frame dwelling house, large barn, etc. Mr. Gill was married in Stark County, Ohio to Mary McDaniel, a native of Stark County and daughter of James and Sarah McDaniel, the latter a native of Pennsylvania, who, after her husband's death in Stark County, came to Indiana and remarried. Mr. and Mrs. Gill are both members of the Christian Church. They have had twelve children - one, Elizabeth, deceased; the others all married except John, who is living at home; Anne R., living in Fort Wayne; Sarah J., Sparta Township; Josiah G., Perry Township; Jacob F., Michigan; David, Elkhart Township; Mary E., Ligonier; Amos A., Michigan; Adam, York Township; William, Michigan; and Almeda, Michigan. Elkhart Twp

Amos Gill son of Abraham Gill and Mary McDaniel and Mary Potter daughter of Edmond Potter and Sarah Jane Creigh married and moved to Mecosta County, Michigan. They in turn had my g-g-grandmother Emma Lasettie Gill her obit:

Emma Lasettie Gill daughter of Amos and Mary Gill was born March 27, 1871 near Legioner, Indiana and departed this life August 18, 1937, at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 21 days at Marion, Michigan, after a few hours illness.

I can find a very little on the Creigh family, no death records or burial locations so any information will be appreciated.
Vicki

Abraham Gill and his wife Mary and their children came sometime between 1850-1860. If anyone has any information on the Henry Potter or Samuel Creigh families I could use the help. I will also be happy to share what I have regarding these families.

Earlist ancestor in Noble County Isaac Cavin
Comments:
I have been trying to sort out things about Isaac & Elizebeth's parents and children. Might you have some sort of chart that contains this information?

My understanding is that my great-grandfather William, or his son George were the last to live in Ligionier. There may be some on the female side of the family with other last names, but I cannot ascertain that information. I have gone to some of the Noble County gen sites but ran into difficulty with false dates and like names--things get confusing.

Do you need information on the children of George Cavin? (William's son--only child I know of).

I am looking for the person or persons that had built and first owned my victorian house in Kendallville. I know the Emericks bought it in early 1900's but I have found dates in the basement going back to 1897. The address is 122 N. Riley St. Kendallville. How would I go about finding this out with the lack of information due to the courthouse burning down in I believe the 40"s ?

Henderson to Noble Co., Indiana about 1854 or 1855. More children were born in Noble County: Semantha, Jonathan (died as an infant) and ChristyAnn. Would like to correspond with anyone descended from this line of Hendersons. My line, James Taylor Henderson, moved to Cloud County, Kansas by 1875.

I am working on my family tree and my grandfather, Noble Foster is listed in the 1930 census for Noble County. He married my grandmother, Jeannette Nicodemus in 1930 in Bluffton IND. My grandfather was born in Orleans, Indiana as Noble LeRoy Childers, however at an early age he changed is last name to Foster (his father was Alonzo Foster). I am tracing my grandfather history and he was 32 when he married my grandmother.

Having lived in Cromwell up to 1976 when I joined the Air Force Ive had the opportunity to travel and live all over the country, from Calif.,to Fla.,to Louisiana, and now in Houston,Tx where as a single dad Im raising a little girl whos had alot of medical problems. I choose to live here because the Drs. and Hospitals are the best. No matter where I live though, Noble County and Cromwell/Ligonier are home.
In June of 2002 I lost an older half brother William "Wild/Bill" David Bonar of the Central Noble area, and in June of this year my father Merl Donald "Don" Galloway of Cromwell/Ligonier suffered a massive stroke.
Realizing how much family information that has been lost because of these situations Ive wanted to get as much info together as possible to pass on to my 3 daughters.
Twenty-five (25) plus years ago I started a Geneololigy search on my family. Your facility, and the library in Fort Wayne gave me a ton of info, unfortunitly its been missplaced or lost.
I tell my two older daughters (13 & 15) about their family history: Their Great-Great Grandfather on their mothers side was full blooded Cherokee, their Uncle Bear (Vern) and I were post Veitnam vets, Dad was a Korean war vet, their great grandfather on my side fought in World War I, and our Great-Great...ect. Gandfather fought in the Cival War. We evan had a couple of Great-Great...ect relitives who were fur trappers in the Indiana and Ohio area, who loaded up a barge with their wares and floated it down the Ohio River to the Mississippi then to New Orleans,to sell. The cool part about this is when they were done they walked home! Ive driven from New Orleans to Indiana many times but cant imagine walking there.I cant get my daughters to walk across the street to the store.Come to think of it ,living in Houston Im not sure I want them to. As you can tell weve had a colorful past. It would be a shame to lose this history.
Thank you for letting me ramble about our little part of Noble County, anything you could do to help steer me in the right direction would be appreaciated. Thanks again: Donald Edward (Don) Galloway

Andrew Ennen moved to Noble County and married Emilie Beltz in 1907. There were no children from this marriage that I know of. Believe Emilie was daughter of Frederick Beltz.

He was married before to Theda Jakobs Ennen. They emigrated from Wirdum, East Friesia, Germany to Illinois in 1892. He may have moved to Indiana sooner than 1907, but Andrew was still in Iroquis County Illinois in 1904 when his first wife died.

Several of Their children, Andrew, Elsie, and John married into the Knafel family.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has information on these families. I can share information about Andrew's children in Illinois.

Benjamin Shew immigrated to Noble County in the autumn of 1844. He lived during the winter of 1844-45 on Adam Kimmel’s land in Jefferson Twp but the following season moved on to his own land in York Twp where he lived and died. Many Shew descendants still live in Noble Co.

I am just wondering if you knew of a Robert S. Robinett(e), he died in 1945 in WWII, in Northern Italy in a plane crash. His dad wasf William Perry Robinett, at the time of his death they lived in Indiana somewhere. His wives name was Eldean and at the time of his death they also had a small child, don't know her maiden name or the child's name. Robert would of been my father in law's half brother.

Name: PETER DROWLEY <DOODLE29pera@bigpond.com>
Date: 2002-12-02
Surnames DROWLEY
Earlist ancestor in Noble County Edward Drowley Before 1865.
Comments:
The Drowley families migrated to America from Kent, England, UK, before 1755, entering via New York. All made there way to Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana and onto Washington and California.

The main core however really settling in Indiana, in Noble County and DelKalb County.

Edward Drowley and his wife Mary Elizabeth Miser are shown on the 1870 Census for Noble County. Edward would have been in Noble County well before the 1870 Census, as he enlisted into the 152 and or 153 Indiana Infantry Regiment, Company C.in 1865.

His commanding Officer being W W Griswold, and were at Harpers Ferry, 1865, attached to the Shenadoah army.

I am also very interested in Kendalville, a George Edward Drowley is mentioned in a book History of Kendalville ?? 1925, published by a company in Minnapolis.

Any help that anyone can give on the Drowley family in Indiana, would be most welcome.

Peter Drowley, Perth, Western Australia. DOODLE29pera@bigpond.com
