Busby was the son of Joseph Busby who had a twin named Joshua. Joe and Josh's father was Eliza Benjamin Busby. I have heard there were a family of 10 Busby boys in S.C. before the civil war and some moved to Ga. and some to Texas. My father is still alive and he knows all of the old names and who was married to who which is pretty amazing since he is almost 87. I know their line is very long lived, several have lived past 100 years old.

Whilst researching my family tree I found this site which I have found very interesting. My g/g/g/grandfather was born in Oxfordshire in 1776 that is as far back as I have been able to go as now I am unable to find records of an earlier time. There apprears to be many Busby families in and around the Oxford area and would be nice to know if anyone is related to my family in some way. In 1839 my family moved to Lutterworth in Leicestershire, Leicester is my home town. I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who believes we may have a connection.

I have posted here several time in the past few years. Since then I found many mistakes in our family files. Somehow great grandparents were attached to the wrong children. The father of Clinton Sylvester Busby is Ambers Busby. Ambers name has been spelled incorrectly on every piece of evidence I found to exist. I have become almost an expert on Busby variations because of Ambers. I do not think that this is his full name, but possibly a nick name. He was born aprox 1872 in IL. He married Rossetta Ananetta Nunn Campbell. Nunn was her fathers middle name and even though that may not of been her birth name she added N for middle initial on the census from time to time. Ambers had 4 children Clinton S, Bessie, Willie (Bill), and Martin Van Buren. They were either born in Carter Co., Missouri or Dunklin Co., Missouri. I do know they are on the Census for Dunklin 1900, 1910, 1920 (Bessie and Willie only) and 1930. Clinton died in 1961 and I have a photo of he and his wifes headstone. These Busbys were farmers and also worked at the Mills. They lived in White Oak twp., Independence, Union in Dunklin. Martin went to California Fresno area. I have been researching every Busby born in Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois. I have several family trees and have found the Busby spelled so many different ways. So any help in these states please write me and I may have them on file. I would love to help! Thanks and great site.

Newpaper Oklahoma City:
A DREAM TRAIL THAT LED TO OKLAHOM (tHE DAILY OKLAHOMA, OKLA. CITY OKLA,) SUNDAY, FEBURARY 22, 1925
DO DREAMS COME TRUE?
Pollyanna Busby, 98 years old, who lives four miles southeast of Thackerville, Love county, think so!
For fifth-eight years, Pollyanna Busby followed a dream. It led her from her home in Mississippi through the swamps of Arkansa and across the prairies of Texas. And at the end of her dream trail, a family was reunited. Pollyanna found her three boys, from whom she became separated when they were children back in Mississippi nearly sixty years ago. Pollyanna's dream came true and now she is happy in Oklahoma, the end of the trail. When her tree boys were taken away from her and did not return, Pollyanna had a dream that she would find them again, she did, but many were the hardships she endured in the search. Proverty. Hunger and thirst she gladly faced that she might find her boys. She buried two husbands and six other children. Trace of another child was lost during the search. But still, Pollyanna hobbled along, confident she would find happiness at the end of her trail, and she did!
It all came about when John and Pollyanna Busby were living on a quiet little farm near Meridian, Mississippi, and the call came for men to defend the confederate states in 1861. John was a patriot and did not ask exemption. He kissed his brave-hearted wife and five children good-be while he heeded his country's call. The war wore on and in 1865, John died of fever at Vicksburg, Mississippi, and one of his brothers brought him home, where he was given a christian burial.
Pollyanna now was a widow 37 years old with five children to take care of. Billy the oldest, 11 years old Henry was 9 years old. Steven was 6 years old, Catherine 3 years old, and Josa 2 years old. .Pollyanna and her childern lived near her father-in-law, Dan Busby, Until the end of the was in 1865. Then she and the children moved about six miles from where he lived and took work at whatever she and the children could get to do.
Although poor, the family lived happily, making the best of the humble circumstances. For several months Pollyanna and her children lived this way-until one day, Billy and Henry, the to oldest boys, disappeared, Grief stricken, widowed mother searched for her boys about the town and neighboring vicinity, but nowhere could she find them. Days went be and the two boys, still failed to return. Pollyanna then went to neighboring towns. Every one seemed to prove fruitless until at one place, she found a man who had seen a man with two boy's who answered the descripton, passing though town in a covered wagon bound for Texas. Pollyanna returned home sadly, she did all but faint, but she dept up her courage, praying to God to protect her wandering boys, she knew they did not go of their own accord, but that they would try to get back if they could. Pollyanna had no way to follow her boys She was poor and she had no means of raising any money to take out on the trail to Texas, far away as it was. There were great cane breaks to go through and wild animals be set the way , making it difficult for alone woman to follow the trail alone. She then resolved to face the situstion as best she could, so she went back to work.
Perhaps, she was not cheerful as usual, but never the -less, in her heart lingered the one hope that she would live to see her two boys again.
Days went by, then weeks, then months. Her youngest son, Steven, also disappeared, It was days before she found that he, to had been taken in the direction of the seeing Son Dan Busby, the father-in-law, had a vision of taking his family, Pollyanna and her remaining children, west, in search of the missing boys. Dan's bright dream of a home in the far wet faded, and at a ripe old age he was buried near his home in Mississippi.
Pollyanna now was alone with her two remaining children. It was a dark, stormy night in the early spring of 1966, that Pollyanna put the two little girls, Catherine and Josa, to bed and sat up to meditate over her troubles and think of some way by which it could be possible for her to find her boys. After thinking for some time, she fell on her knees and called on the supreme ruler to aid her in her search for her lost children in the far west. After about two hours of praying, the lullaby of the falling rain on the roof caused her to fall asleep. No sooner had she fallen asleep, than she began to dream.
In her dream, she was in a great woods praying for her boys, and an a parition appeared before her and spoke" Arise and look toward the west. When she arose to her feet and faced the west, she saw before her path which will lead you to a great road running north and south, and many people will be going each way, but you cross the road and you will find a dim path on the other side, which will lead you through a muddy wooded country, After a time the trail will turn to the southwest and finally will end you to Wisdom schoolhouse, where you will find your boys. At this, the apparition disappeared before Pollyanna had time to ask any questions. Pollyanna took the trail as directed and soon came to the great north and south road. Great chariots were going each way, loaded with people. She crossed the road and, with some difficulty found the path as described. Pollyanna fairly ran over the path and soon it became muddy, and after a time it amde a turn to the southwest, Pollyanna soon found herself at Wisdom Schoolhouse, where she knocked but didn't get any responce. She pulled the latch-string and found the room bare" she ran through this room and opened the door which led into the next room. It too was bare, with persistent effort she opened the door into the third room, only to find it vacant, She paused in this room and said, to herself if they are not in this room they are not here." She walked slowly across the room and opened the door which led into the fourth room. As the door swung back and the three boys arose on the other side of the room and started towards her. First came Billy, then Henry and then Steven, She said, "Children, have you had anything to eat?" and they answered, "Yes, Mother, the man out younder plowing gave us some dough, and we ate it raw' Pollyanna looked out the window and saw the man plowing in the corn fields. So real was the dream that Pollyanna awoke to find it broad day the morning sunbeams dancing before the crystal raindrops, which still were clinging to the trees. She was angry with the sun for arousing her from her slumbers, and again separating her from her boys. She would have liked to have stayed in dreamland and amused herself with Rip Van Winkle's favorite past time.
Went she had time to wake and reflect over her dream she told Catherine and Josa, who had been watching their sleeping mother with eager, innocent eyes, ""children, we will find your brothers some day, for the Lord told me so last night." Pollyanna told her neighbors about her dream, and within a month the dream had followed in the, woke of the startling story of the daring kidnapping of the boys. Old people made all kinds of predictions as to the outcome of the dreams, but few of them lived to see the year that the dream really materialized. In a neighborhood near Meridiam, Mississippi, a man and relatives had heard of Pollyanna's misfortune and dream. So they set out to find her and offer her passage to Texas if she cared to go.
They thinking, that Texas was not so large, but what it would be no trouble for her to inquire from one neighborhood to another and soon fine the boys if she out there. As they were not long finding Pollyanna and learning that she would be glad to go to Texas. As they were ready to return to their home in the west, they offered to take Pollyanna, her children, the least amount of bedding they could get by with comfortably, one pot, and one skillet, without charge.
Pollyanna thinking of her dream, wept for joy, knowing that each day would bring her closer to her boys. Little did she think that it would be more thin and average lifetime after she reached Texas before she would find the object of her quest. It was late in the summer of 1866 that Pollyanna and her children started for Texas with this kindhearted man and his generous wife, who did everything to make Pollyanna and the children comfortable.
When the wagon reached the Mississippi river, Pollyanna saw the boats going north and south, as did the chariots of her dream. The muddy rads through the swamps of Arkansas, also reminded her of the path of her dream. She would close her eyes and see the boys coming, as they did in the dream, at Wisdom schoolhouse, she could not keep it off her mind. After a long journey through Arkansas, the wagon reached Texas. The sight of the long-thought - of Texas caused her heart to leap and continue the hunt for her three boys. This was the Red River bottom but Pollyanna cannot rmember just where it was. In the meantime Billy and Henry Busby had been taken to a farm twenty miles south-east of Waco, in McLennen County. They tried every way possible to send word back to their mother in Mississippi, where they were but every attempt to do so proved fruitless. Bring more boys and not knowing how to get away to run back, they contented themselves to remain on the farm and the other ranches in the district where they grew to manhood.
BROTHERS NEAR EACH OTHER While living off farms and ranches around Waco. William and Henry little knew that their younger brother, Steven, whom they thought was safe back in Mississippi, had been taken to a farm only thirty miles from them.
The tree grew up unaware of the presence of the others and when they all were in their twenties, they went out into the prairies and began lives as cowboys, wandering far apart. For six years after Pollyanna arrived in Texas, she, Catherine, and Josa went from place to place, traveled from one community to another and worked at anything honorable.
In the meantime she was telling her story and her dream to every one whom, she chanced to talk. Pollyanna but this time had found that Texas was no small community and that a vast country lay to the wet of all she had explored
POLLYANNA IS WED AGAIN FEELING THAT WOMAN WAS NOT MADE TO LIVE ALONE, IN 1873 SHE MARRIED GILBERT WOLSEY.
Wolsey, by nature was a rambler, and the search for the boys did not end. Go eighteen years Pollyanna and Wolsey rambled over Texas. To this union were bore even children, all of whom are known to be dead, except Lula, who married, and baby lost from mother during the search for the boys. In 1891 Gilbert Wolsey died, leaving Pollyanna to live with Josa Penred, her baby girl by her first Husband. She remained a widow from 1891 to 1896 when she married Marian Dukes who was a lover of the road: and the search for the boys was renewed tith a greater effort. This search continued for ten years when in 1908 Marian Dukes went blind and the search came to an end as far as Pollyanna was concered.
For three years Pollyanna led her blind husband about and did all she could to comfort him in his darkness. SHE LEFT WIDOW AGAIN After Marian Dukes died in 1911, Pollyanna was left a widow for the third time.
Again she made her home with Josa Penrod, where she lived until she moved to Thackerville, Oklahoma in 1923. It was in 1891, that Steven Busby was visiting friends in Gatesville, Texas, that an old man approached him and asked him if he had any brothers. To this Steven replied that he had two older brothers somewhere in Texas if they were still alive, but had not heard from them in twenty-six years. The man smiled and told of two men by the name of Busby who had been in the community a few weeks before and told of being Kidnapped in Mississippp when they were boys.
BROTHERES ARE REUNITED
An exchange of letters proved to Steven that the men were his brothers, and that one was living in Thackerville, Indian Territory, and the other in Whitcha Falls, Texas. Steven then set out on horse back on the long journey from Gatesville, Texas to Thackerville. While traveling north of Waco, Texas he stopped at a farm house to spend the night with a man and his wife, she Steven told why he was making this long trip and about his being brought to Texas when a small child, the woman quickly, told Steven that she was his sister and that she too had become lost from her mother. The woman was Lulu Wolsey a half-sister. She told Steven about her mother being married again and that she was still looking for the boys. SISTER IS LOST FOREVER When Steven Busby told his sister good bye the next morning, he thought it would be no trouble to keep up with her: but when he returned to Waco several weeks later, he could find no trace of her and to his day she is lost from the family, Steven returned to Texas after an extended visit with his brother At Thackerville; and while traveling in Texas, he found several place where his mother lived, but he could not get any traces of her. Ment times he and his mother were close.
Grover Busby, son of Billy had grown up and after getting a good education became an evangelist, preaching in several of the east Texas counties. He refused large sums of money fooered him several times to hold a pastorate: as he preferred to travel and search for his grandmother. He would ask about her in every community he entered.
CLUE FOUND TO POLLYANNA
It was in Feburary, 1923, while traveling in Franklin County, Texas by automoble that Grover Busby had the misfortune to stick in the mud and had to get the services of a farmer and a team to get him out. As it was about night when the car was removed fromthe mud. The farmer invited Grover to spend the night with him. This Grover gladly accepted. When they reached the house, Grover was telling his story as usual, sooner had he finished, than the women told Grover of a woman by the name of Minnie Stems, who lived in Mississippi, and brought to Texas, And that her grandmother brought her mother and aunt to Texas in search of the boys. This excited Grover's searching spirit, and he asked the farmer and his wife to accompany him to Mrs. Stem, family and after a few questions were asked Grover explained that Mrs. Stem was his cousi and asked is his grandmother was still alive. She told that she was and was living twenty miles from the Grover along with Mrs. Stem and the farmer and his wife, set out for his grandmother's house that night.
POLLYANNA'A DREAM IS FULFILLED
It was after 1100 o'clock in the night when the car ended its journey and the news was broken to the grandmother, who was none else escept Pollyanna. The rest of the night was spent in telling experiences. a telegram was sent to each of the long lost boys and next morning, and in a few days Billy came, followed by Henry and Steven, and the home which was diveded in Mississppi in 1865 was reunited in Texas in 1923
In March, 1924, Pollyanna came from Marquez, Texas to Thackerville, Oklahoma, with her grandson Grover Busby, in a automobile, a distance of 200 miles, Since, she had made her home with her son, Steven at Thackerville. Steven now is 66 years old Henry who is 69 years old lives near Mountain Park, Oklahoma and Billy 71 years old lives in Mangum. Oklahoma. Pollyanna was 99 years old in May 1924, and is in good health. According to her interpretaion of her dream. The Mississippi river was the broad road leading north and south. The steamboats loaded with people were the chariots moving each way, the swamps of Arkansas were the mudd trail, and the bare rooms at Wisdom Schoolhouse were the many disappointments and just as she dreamed Billy came to her ahead of Henry and Steve
Texas new paper FAITH REUNITES TEXAS MOTHER OF 96 WITH THREE SONS STOLEN FROM HER IN MISSISSIPPI 58 YEARS AGO
Grandson seemingly guided by fate to find grandmother- by Byron C.Utecht, Staff Correspondent.
Franklin March 3, 1923 This is the story of a Freat Faith, such as shown by the Roman centurion, of whom Christ said: "I have not found so great faith, no not in all Israse."
Two thousand years have rolled by since the day of the centurion; every vestige of the power he represented has been swept away. Yet the setting of this Great Faith in Texas in 1923 is much the same as the biblical settings in which Christ was won't to talk to the people back in old palestine- good, plain people, farmers, growing things, humble homes, simplicity , charity, courage, hardships, strong characters.
A little, bent woman, with kindly wrinkles, kindly eyes, on whose her prayer of 58 years would be answered and it was answered:
Fifty-eight years ago the three sons of Mrs. Pollyanna Dukes, who lives at Marquez, 27 miles from here, were stolen from her. This happened in 1865 following the close of the War between the States when she was living at Meridian, Mississippi. The sons were William D., John Henry and Stephen. William was 11 years old, henry 9 years old and Stephen 6 years old. William and Henry- he uses the middle name- were stolen at the same time and Stephen was kidnaped from his home two months later.
She did not see any of the three again until early in February of this year. They were bright, happy, smiling, round-faced boys when Mrs. Dukes last saw them, in 1965 when they came to her little farm home in 1923 they were aged, gray-haired men, but still smiling. For more than half a certury Mrs. Dukes prayed daily that she might be united with her three sons again before she died. For more than half a century she sought them by every possible means, by inquiry, letter and travel: for more than half a century the three boys tried to find their mother, they, too, prayed that they might locate her. The story of the search with its vicissitudes, disappointments and hopes rivals that of evangeline and Gabriel-it is Texas Odyssey. William, Henry and Stephen never relaxes in their 58-years search, thought often they were discouraged. The trails of mother and sons often crossed as they hunted thorough out the country, but they never met.
For many years newspaper advertisements were resorted to by both mother and sons, but none was productive of any clue. Steven, the youngest, years ago found where his mother had been in Erath, Lampasas, Hamilton, Bosque, and mony other Texas counties, He redoubled his energies, thinking this time he would find his mother, but when he reached a farming community where Mrs. Dukes last lived, it was only to learn that she had moved again. Mrs. Dukes had married three times following her first marriage and this served to throw the sons off the trail a number of times. All of her former husbands and children of her subsequent marriages are dead. Only the Busby children remain.
William D. Busby is now 69 years old and is a Baptist preacher at Mangum, Okla, where he also owns a farm. As he felt the years growing heavier and heavier upon him, he throw the responsibility of the search upon his oldest son, Rev H. G.L. Busby, alson a Baptist preacher, who lives at Franklin, In his boyhood days the father often took his son upon his knee and told him the story of the kidnaping and long search and urged him to be on the lookout for any clue to his grandmother's where abouts and it was the privilege of this grandson, now 34 years old, to find his lost grandmother living only a few miles from where he preached, in the village of Marquez.
Rev. H. G. L. Busby formerly resided in Fort Worth, where he graduated at the Southwestern Baptist Teminary. To help make his way in college he put in much time as a street car conductor. How he located Mrs. Dukes a dramatic, fiting climax to this Odyssey of Texas, all of the grandson's movements apparently being a benign Fate in answer to his grandmother's suppications. He is absolutely certain himself that providence caused him to locate at Franklin and give him his present work as county missionary that he would be able to find Mrs. Dukes. But to return for a moment to the three sons.
(Father Died at Vicksburg.)
Their father J.C. Busby, had been a soldier in the confederte army and lost his life when Grant was hammering at Vicksburg. When the was ended several Mississippi familes moved to Texas, among them the family of a man named Chadwick. William and Henry had called at the Chadwick home when the family was just redy to leave. There were no railroads to Texas in those days, all travel westward was by ox teams and wagons. Chadwick invited the two boys, too young to understand the significance of things, to get into one of the wagons for a ride. they had driven many miles before William became apprehensive. Why, we must be past our home, he said to his abductor. "I thought you were going to take us home.""No, you two boys are going with us to Texas, Nice trip you'll see the country, but when you get there there'll be plenty of work for you." he was told.
William was alarmed and tried to flee, but was quickly subdued, he and Henry were carried deep into Louisiana and then into Texas. Their abductor simply made slaves of the two boys, forcing them to undergo farm drudgery in East Texas without pay, little food and scarcely any clothing. They were too young to resist, but their youthful minds were resentful and they bided their time when they could escape. They were of good American stock and had they not been this story would have had a different ending.
(Wipped By Negro)
Their abductor made one fatal mistake. When William was 11 years old he ordered that he be whipped by a negro overseer. The burly negro used what was known as a "bullinettle". The boy intensely angered by thisinjustice, obtained a shotgun and would have slain the negro on the spot but the cartridge failed to explode. He then found Henry and the two tried to leave the place where they were held in peonage. The man was absent then, but others of the family tried to seze the boys, where wpon William brought his gun to his shoulder and the family and thire negros changed their minds speedily, running in all directions.
William and Henrythen sauntered down the country road and into the wide world, having not a cent in their pockets, William carrying his old shotgun over his shoulder and resting his other hand upon Henry. They were little boys frindless and alone, but they had grit, endurance and hope.
In a day or two they obtained work at a farm. For several years they did odd jobs for ranchers and were cuffed and beaten around and frequently cheated of their wages, Once a farmer offered William a horse if he would work out its pay. When the boy had worked three months for the animal the farmer refused to give him the horse or any money. William wouldn't stand for that, he told his story to neighbor farmers and got his horse. But the two boys had to hunt other jobs again
(Go to Oklahoma)
William and Henry worked their way to Oklahoma where they grew to manhood not far from the Texas border, labored hard, saved their money and prospered to some extent. They marred and bought farms. Neither boy had an opportunity to go to school, but their wives taught them how to read and write and soon William entered the ministry.
Stephen was stolen by a man name Allen and also was brought to Texas. William and Henry learned of this kidnaping several years later through the underground message rout-farm to farm- but they did se himuntil 26 years after he had been stolen and all three were farmers in Oklahoma, Henry now 66, lives at Okema, Oklahoma Stephen 64, at Thackerville, Oklahoma. Henry at one time lived at Denton, Friends in Oklahoma by merest accident-or was it fate? Told William and Henry that they knew of another Busby who was a farmer. When they invastigated they found he was Stephen, who ran away from his abductor in Texas years before.
Mrs. Dukes is living with her daughter, Mrs Josephine Penrod, in Marquez, in whose home she has been for the last 11 years, Mrs. Penrod is her yongest living daughter. The Penrods have two sons W.P and W.T who formerly worked on the Waggoner ranch near Wichita Falls and often went after cattle into Oklahoma and saw their Uncle William and his sons, but did not know they were relatives.
When she lost her three sons, in 1865, Mrs Dukes, then Mrs. Busby, determined to find them at all costs. The next Spring she set out for Texas with her two daughters, Jasephine and Katherine. They came with a neighbor in the familiar ox wagon of those days. The mother had no information what ever as to the where abouts of William, Henry, and Stephen, but she did have faith and grit, she needed plenty of both, she know the man that had stolen them and had set out for Texas-that was all she knew. Not much of a clue to follow, but mother-love is persistent.
(CHADWICK GOES TO PEN)
Therr years later, she found neighbors who had known Chadwick, who informed her that Chadwick had been sent to prison for killing a man and that her boys had escaped. Chadwick died soon after his release and she was not able to see him. From that time on, members of the separated family hunted for each other though out long years. She never for one moment gave up her sons as dead.
After Rev. H.G.L.Busby graduated in Fort Worth he was given charge of several churches in East Texas. Before coming to Franklin, he was pastor of a Baptist church in Linden. When thru there, he had everal splendid offers, one carrying with it @2,400 more than he is getting now and one carrying $1,700 more. Being young capable, a good mixer, amitious, and enthusiastic to one would have blamed him for taking the most lucrative offer. It would have been only human nature.
But Busby turned sown both, He felt that he was called to Robertson County, where the people wanted him as County Missionary. This would give him opportunity to go all over the County and do good. So to Franklin he came, Fate? Providence? AN ANSWER TO PRAYER? There is logic in Busby's affirmative reply.
(Hunt in Every County)
Two years ago the youngest preacher H.G.L.Busby made a trip to Meridian to trace his grandmother, but could learn nothing, althought he did locate another branch of the family-cousins. The search extended into every Texas county. When he came to Meridian, his work took him to all parts of the Co. into the little communities off the much traveled routs. He had not yet made inquiry Robertson County for his missing grandmother.
Came January 28, of all dates the important in the Busby calendar. The day started off like any other day, with nothing of consequence to mark it. But let Rev Busby tell it in his own words."It was a rainy, muddy say," he said, "a day to discourage anything a long automabile trip over bad roads, But something came to me that I should vist the Seal neighborhood and I told Rev J.L. Wallace, pastor of the First Baptist Church, I was going there. 'Why man, youre crazy to start there on a day like this. Your'll never make it, he told me. But I was determined to go, so he decided to accompany me. Towards evening we stopped at the home of Mrs. Tallent, she casually asked me regarding my faimly. If she madn't asked that little question, the 58 year search would still be on. What prompted her? I told her I knew little of my family. My father and two uncles were stolen in Mississippi and have not seen their mother again. I had said the same thng to thousands of other and had expected the same reply of sympathy and siamissal of the subject, But her next remark startled me.
"There is a woman living on my place about 300 yards from here who knows a very old woman who had three sons stolen in Mississippi,"she said, "Where is this woman", I cried, starting from my chair, Rev Wallace was amazed. We went at once to this nearby home and learned that a Mrs. Dukes had three sons stolen who had the same names as my father and uncles and who was living with her daughter, twenty miles from there,It was still raining and dark and we were very tired. We did not wait for dinner, but got into my car and drove to Marqueaz immediately, reaching the Penrod home at 9 0'clock that night. When we were admitte to the home, I saw Mrs. Penrod and her mother, Mrs,Dukes, told them what I had heard and named the three stolen boys, "Yes, those were my three stolen sons," said the 96-year-old woman. For a few moments, I was silent, overcome with emotion and then I burst out: "Well, grandmother, I am William's oldest boy.""You should have seen her expression:' She came to me, grabbed and hugged me and said, "Praise the LORD" over and over for nearly two hours. There ere relatives and friends nearby who must know the great news, so my lost grandmother, Rev Wallace, and myself piled into my car and went to see them, my grandmother not minding in the least the stormy night. When we returned, we all sat up until 2 o'clock in the morning discussing the big evant and the past.
"Early next morning we sent telagrams to my father, William, and uncle Henry andStephen. My father was the first to come: then the other two sons followed. The rejoicing and excitement at the Penrod home has contunued unabated for the last three weeks."
(Meets So in Yard)
Mrs. Dukes was at the home of her grandson in Franklin when her oldest son, William, came from Mangum, Oklahoma .She was in the yard and as 69 year old William entered she ran to him and both silenting embraced. When the writer tried to learn what each said at that fateful meeting , no one who witnessed it could recall.
"Oh, I do not know what I said or What William said," replied Mrs. Dukes, " son't think any thing was said,m Something rose up in me and choked me and I have been that way ever since. It was joyful, but i was not surprised, I know that he would come. It was in answer to my prayer," William has gone back to Mangum but before he left he preached at the First Baptist Church here one evening and his 96 year old mother sat in the front pew and heard him, his subject being "The Marriage Supper." The next night her grandson, Rev H.G.L. preached on "Heaven" ans his grandmother again occupied the front pew. Hunderds of Franklin men and woman attended both sermons and showered congratulations on mother, son, and grandson. The two sermons were the best she ever heard. said Mrs. Dukes.
(Stephen is Overcome)
The writer visited the Penrod home accompanied by the grandon a few days ago and found Stephen still visiting there. The excitement so overcome him that he has not fully recovered to be able to return to Thackerville, Oklahoma. His son Hardy, 36, has come to be with him. Mrs Dukes stood the excitament with more calm then any of the youngsters. But she knew it was coming.
Apparently they were awaiting us, Mrs Dukes, Stephen, the daughter, Josephine, and a regiment of grandchildren were all there in the living room, Stephen sitting in a big rocker, whild his aged mother sat by his side, A pretty Wholesome picture it was, As we entered, Mrs. Dukes was the first to arise and greet us, doing it with a smile and warm handshake.
To several questions she replied:'Certainly I think the world is getting better. We always will have evil in the world, but I know it is getting better and people are more charitable. Prayer is the greatest thing in the world, that and faith. It moves all obstacles, I always have been jovial, regardless of hardships, for I believe in enjoying life. Live while you're living, is a good motto, wick- but I won't speak of that now. It seems as if I have been living in Heaven since my sons came back and Iam gong to keep them this time."
Stephen interrupted to agree with his mother that prayer will accomplish anything.
(Still Dolls Up)
When photographs were suggested Mrs Dukes complied with alacrity, hunting through a trunk for finery and going to her room for a Sunday dress. "Why, you're dolling up like a flapper," remarked her grandson."Certainly," She replied>
She walked to the front yard and down the steps without assistance.eye glasses, or cane, while her son Stephen had to be assisted to the yary,"her discovered' Rev H.G.L.Busby, occupies a special place in her heart and often while talking she leaned over, patted his cheek and killed him.
"Ian't she remarkable?" demanded the young preacher. "Isn't He fine?" ask the old grandmother. besides Rev H.G.L. William Busby has two other sons, one W.D. Busby Living at Burkburnett, and the other T.D. Busby a student at the Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, When the latter is ordained, the family will have three Baptist preachers. He alson has five Daughters. Henry has four sons at Okemsh and Stephen has three sons and one daughter at Thackerville.
The living room of the Penrod home was typical of the solid american farmer family. It had a fireplace in which burning logs kept the place warm and cheerful: a mantle holing a clock, pictures, calender and brickabrac: the walls were adorned with pictures and mottoes, one picture being of Christ. The three sons are making plans to sell their Oklahoma property and move to Franklin, where they may be near their mother and where the climate is less rigorous than in western Oklahoma. "My only ambition now in life, said Mrs Dukes, "is to live long enough to e with my sons and grandchildren a few more years and to talk to them again. I am glad my eyes and hearing are still good." You want to live to be hundred, don't you grandmother?" asked her grandson "Oh yes I expect to live that long, but if not, it will be all right now." she replied. The Busbys have been identified with the United States ever since there was United States, members of the family having participated in every was beginning with the Revolution, Hardy, son of Stephen and W. Dot, William's son were in the world War in France and Germany respectively one of Josephines sons was in the Nave during the war.if you know any things about this busby side please let me know and i have a lettle from my great uncle about headMaster Richard Busby of england

Also, I can not find anything after Jesse Busby. My grandfather died when my mother was about 1 or 2 (1935 - 1936)? Her mother never talked about him. Just wandering if anyone had info on anyone born to Jesse Busby. I do have a picture of my grandfather Walter Clifton Busby. Any info would be appreciated.

Great site, I never knew there were so many busbys. I am looking for any info on a Mr. Martin Van Buren Busby, he was named after the town that he was born in. He lived in Missouri, around Carter County until he married and had children. He then moved to California in the late forties or early fifties. He had two brothers named clint Busby, and Bill Busby, he also had a sister but I can not get her name. Any help would be wonderful, my father is very old and asked if I could find any info on his family before he dies, lots of personal issues unsettled, so any help would be the greatest.

My ggrandfather, William Henry Busby, and his family entered the USA via Boston in the 1850s. As an adult, he journeyed from Missouri to Ontario, Canada, then to Manitoba, Canada. We believe he had two brothers who remained in the USA. Therefore, my family and I believe we have distant relatives living in the USA.

Hello, Just updating since I last posted. I found that my great, great grandfathers name is Clinton Sylvester Busby. His father was James Busby and mother Mary ?. Clinton went by Clint and he married Lucy (lucinda)Willis. My grandmother remembers him having a brother named Bill. I found Bill's SS as being born in 1902 and died in 1974. Haven't ordered it yet so I don't know where he came from. Clinton had a son named Glen Ray who is living in Texas, hoping he would of wrote back but he hasn't. Clint and Lucy also had several daughters and believe a couple of them are still in Dunklin Co., MO. Great Site! kim

Farrell, I have been visiting these pages a long time and searching for my Busby/Buzbee line, but have had no luck. Just recently found a possibility for David's father in a census so maybe the pieces will start coming together on my puzzle and I can find connections. I have a little info on my Busby family on my website. This is my Busby page http://www.geocities.com/gym50_99/busby1.html
