10/6/2012 Dear Carol, You have done a great job with the family history and the Aurora/Havana early immigrants. I see much of the part on Lewis and Englive is what Arlene and I put together many years ago and we submitted to the Family Reunion in 1997. Thank you for including it. It was nice meeting you that day. We recently learned new information about Lewis' brother Peter Johnson by reviewing old deed records for the farm they settled on. It answered many questions we had about Peter and Carrie but added a few more! Would love to correspond with you. The old family home and barn #where I grew up - as did my grandpa Nels# was taken down 5years ago and a new home has been built on site. We visit there occasionally. We no longer are members of the Aurora Church but visit there often as we live near by. Our oldest grandson now has the old iniatialed trunk...and the small table that was brought with the great gr grandparents from Norway- we still eat our breakfast daily from it and is placed in our sun porch. Eight years ago our home was featured on a "Tour of Homes" as a 'Scandinavian Christmas Home' by the Steele Co. Historical Society. All our Norwegian family treasures were lovingly displayed. We would welcome a visit by you any time. Peace in your heart. Eugene N. Johnson#age 77#-great grandson of Lewis and Englive Johnson

I was looking for the Larson's of Wanamingo. Lars and son Edward that built the log house that is now part of a museum in Wanamingo. Edward's youngest sister was Anna Spafford married to Horatio Spafford that wrote "It is Well With My Soul". As I was reading the second line ...Agrim and Guri Johnson with daughter Britha, son Jens, and Guri’s mother Anna Nilsdatter. Agrim was half brother to John Johnson. Guri was first cousin to Guri (Mrs. John) Johnson, both named after their mutual grandmother. I noticed Anna Nilsdatter as a possible person from my Ancestry.com family tree. My GGGGG grandmother is listed as Anne Nilsdater born 1759 in Rud, Akershus, Norway.

Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks for the fun page.

I have appreciated the research done by distant relative Carol Johnson to add to what I put together in the 1960's on Louis and Englive Johnson and their family.

We still have displayed and use in our home a number of original old photos and documents, Bible, and furniture items from the old family home. We still visit the old home site in Havana township and also the Aurora Lutheran Church. We enjoy connecting with the distant relatives.

You mention a number of families from the Dane County community of Koskonong (Sp). that moved from there to Minnesota. One of the other families that did not move to MN could be that of Gunder Florond Olson 1807-1887 and his wife Gurine Nielsdtr 1817-1903. Gunder was from the Overland farm, Sauda, Rogaland Cty, Norway. They first settled in Dane Cty, later moving to Juneau County in 1855, and joining the East Lemonweir Lutheran Church. The Gunderson family lived across the road from the church which is located between Elroy and New Lisbon, WI. They were one of the first settlers in "church valley". I don't know for sure if they came from Koskonong or from the Deforest Settlement.

Hope this might be of help.

I am married to Ella's grandson, Dean Thompson whose father is Gilford A. Thompson of Austin MN and Ella's son. I notice that a short bio of Ella is posted along with her interment information at the Aurora Lutheran Cemetery.

Ella actually died in Yankton, SD on 20 Feb 1923 of a ruptured appendix, leaving two young children Bernette & my father-in-law, Gilford. It is true that her husband Andrew Thompson later married her cousin Gertrude (Johnson) Lunstrom, who when she was widowed first married Leslie Olcott. Left a widow a second time, Gertrude then married Andrew Thompson, my husband's grand father in Sept 1925. Gertrude was the only mother the children ever remembered. Gertrude & Andrew are buried together in the Red Oak Grove Cemetery near Corning, MN.
Just thought you'd like to know
Sincerely,
Bobbi Thompson

Looking for historical information regarding District 24 School which I and my siblings grew up with. It was located on "our" land - Thomas and Maxine Raine - which we bought from Homer Hickok in 1943. It was in the southwest corner of the intersection - one mile south and one mile west of Havana. We lived to the south, Ed Skerick lived to the east, Glen Schuelke and Ed Dushek lived to the north and Pichners and Spatenkas lived to the west.

Your site has been a big piece that I've been missing! I had been able to find info on the Selthun side from a distant relative in Norway and by purchasing a Bygdebok from Laerdal but thought I would have to get the other volumnes to get the Prestegard side and since I don't read/speak Norwegian it's a bit of a struggle. However, I still keep running into a brick wall on Albert Erie (Ingebright Olson Eri). I was able to take a trip to Laerdal this summer and visit the family farm and meet a second cousin of my Dad's. What an adventure! Thanks for the info and any other sites/sources would be greatly appreciated.
