What surnames are you researching? Westlake
Comments:
Hello! You list William Edgar Westlake, my great grandfather (b. Aug 21 1858 - d. Feb 6 1918) as having a spouse with the last name Judd. Any clues about who this is? My grandfather was quite a bit older than his younger sister. I know about Estella Westlake, but now wonder if this wasn't William Edgar's second wife and not my grandfather's biological mother. Can you please drop me an email with any info you have?

What surnames are you researching? AAtchison
What Counties in Iowa were they from? Dubuque or Jackson
Comments:
I am a birth mother who gave birth to my son Nicolas on April 21, 1990 @ Finley Hospital, in Dubuque, Iowa. I gave him up for adoption @ 18 months of age. I would like to find my son, and hopefully get to know him, and have the relationship with him that he deserves. He also has 2 younger brothers and a younger sister, who would really love to meet him. From what I have heard, his adoptive family told him that his that his entire birth family on my side were deceased. I feel they were wrong in telling him. None of us have forgotten him, and we would give anything to see his smiling face and twinkling blue eyes....

Anne, quite a collection you have. I was searching for info on my grandmother Lena (Larson) McClellan who died in Glenwood around 16 Mar 1936 along with a baby Nora Joy Mcclellan, they are buried in a cemetary just North of Glenwood. I have one surviving aunt who is now 81 and lives in Stanton, Ia but she was only about 5 at the time and does not remember much about it. Family oral history does not match facts I have uncovered and I would like to know what happened to my grandmother who died 22 years before i was born. Len McClellan

I was born in 1950. My mother's name is Vava. I suspect I have a brother who was born some time from 1949 to 1952. I know he came to Calif. probably early in the 2000's looking for his birth mother. My mom turned him away. Her dad told her that the baby had died at birth. She never told me about his visit, but told her twin sister. Her twin couldn't remember the details. My mother has passed and I would love to find this missing brother

How did you find my site? my bumbling research on Ryan name
What surnames are you researching? Ryan, McCormick
What Counties in Iowa were they from? Sac County and Greene County
Comments:
My grandmother was Anne Lillian Ryan and her mother's maiden name was McCormick.

I have seen most of the McCormick genealogy (from the Genealogy Forum) but don't have much on the Ryans prior to Lillian's father.

I can give you information about her children and grandchildren, etc. if you are interested.

Do you know why the Ryans left Virginia for Arkansas? What was her father's profession? What were the professions of her siblings? Why and when did James Robert Ryan move to Iowa?

Looks like I have lots of blanks to be filled in. Thanks for all your help so far.

Looks like we are relatives! My great grandparents are Martha Isabel and Edwin Babcock. My mom has been doing alot of the leg work but I dont think she has photos of Martha and Edwin. SO neet to see the faces. I sure can see the resemblence from my father and his father in their faces. I am interested in any other Babcock photos you may be willing to share. In all, the research has uncovered connections: a (female)Babcock married into the Heywood (my husbands lineage) back about the mid 1700's, and a Burroughs (my maternal grandfather) married a daughter of Ethan Allan. Elijah Babcock was a member of the Green Mtn boys whom Ethan Allan started. So talk about a tangled web we weave!

How did you find my site? rootsweb had a list of links for researching Pottawattamie Co., IA, which included this site
What surnames are you researching? Burckhalter
What Counties in Iowa were they from? lived in Marion, Cass, and Pottawattamie Counties
Comments:
all of the information I have currently on my (suspected) Burckhalter ancestors I found at this site: http://www.jolts.com/boone/biographies/BurckhalterJohnW.html
any further information you may have about either the reference that is cited (1891 Biographical History of Pottawattamie County, Iowa) or the names mentioned within would be very much appreciated.
My goal is to find any evidence to back up what I have found on the internet.
Of particular interest, I suspect that the John W. Burckhalter who is the subject of the entry on that website is the father of my great-grandfather, a Thomas William Burckhalter. My great-grandfather died at a young age, around 40 or 45 in about the year 1927, and so there is very little that I know about him. I do know that he had a brother, James Harold Burckhalter; the uncle "Harold" who raised my grandfather and his brother in Colorado after their father passed away. Also, a lot of the male members of the Burckhalter family seem to be known mainly by their middle names.
Again any information that you may have access to would be greatly appreciated. If you end up not having the time to look, I understand that too. Thank you for your time.

Hi Anne,
Sorry, I hit the wrong button on my computer and lost you.
I have recently found I an descended from the Hooker line through Martha Matilda (Hooker)Hines, Freemole. Parents Menander Hooker and Eunice Culp. Of course I would like to find out all I can on the Hookers, Culps, esp parents ect...
I also found out the story about Martha and her husbands, why she was denied Geo. Freemole widows pension, if you are interested about that. Otherwise, I really don't have much information since I've just started researching the Hooker line.

What Counties in Iowa were they from? ringgold county
Comments:
Hello, Anne...

I am looking for Solomon Hooker, married (1st.)to Elizabeth Morgan and married (2nd) Rachel Ann Bales. However, someone's data said his first wife was Sarah Ellen ? in 1836 in IN. with one child.

Solomon Hooker b. 29 May, 1817 in Indiana. Married Elizabeth Morgan 09 Dec. 1840 in Abington, Knox Co., IL. He died Mar. 11, 1883 in Ringgold Co., IA, and is buried in Bethel Cemetery.

Elizabeth b. 11/19/1816 in Vandenburgh co., Indiana, died abt. 1860-67. They had 8 children; Mary E.,James Franklin, Jacob Alexander, Emeretta, John Henry, Lucinda, William C., & Isaac.

Rachel Mar. 24 1842, m. Solomon Hooker Dec. 22, 1867, d. Jan 26 1911 in Lincoln, NE. They had 5 or 7 children; Olive (?), Losena (?), Marion Francis, Joel, Andrew, Susan, & Solomon (?). Susan Hooker was my maternal grandmother, and Solomon, he father, my greatgrandfather. Part of my data came from Mary E. Nation. She has 2 or 3 more kids than I do.

Susan Hooker married Robert B. Cox (who I can't find).
They were my mother's parents.

Several of these children were born in Diagonal, Ringgold Co., Iowa.

Ms. Nation says that almost all of the children were born in Diagonal, Ringgold Co., IA, and all the younger children are also buried there.

Any contact here?

Thank you, Sincerely,

Julie Wilmoth

What Counties in Iowa were they from? undetermined Marshall Co. (?)
Comments:
Hi,

I am still doing research on Powers family tree. I was told that Powers is the 50th most common surnames in the nation which may be the reason why it's hard to find lineage of Powers in my family tree.

I am looking for a Michael Powers, unknown is the date of birth and date of death. I was told that his wife was Annie (full name unknown, maiden name unknown but Annie was born on 05/06/1880 and died on 02/12/1966 in Lewiston, Idaho. The persumed siblings are: Mary, Kate, Mike, Ammie (full name unknown..Ammie was my grandma), Pearl, Anges,Bart and Patrick. They may be siblings, direct relatives or cousins. The Powers family lived in Lapawai, Nez Perce Indian Reservation in the late 1890's to early 1920's. The exact dates are unknown. It was an approximate year to my best knowledge.

Could you please inform me regarding Powers and how they were related and dates of migritations? I would appreciate this very much.

Sincerely,
Steve Schoenberg

My Yates line came to America in 1910 when my grandfather James, son of James and EliZabeth,

Comments:
We have very little information on my grandfather's family. This is what we have:
He was Everett Fernald Yates, b. May 15,1894 in Rantouille, IL. He came to Norfolk, VA while in the Navy during WW I. His father's name was Preston Yates. After his father's death, his mother Clara married a man named Brown and moved to Des Moines, Iowa. She was killed by a train during a blizzard in the early 1900's. (We have the newspaper article.) Preston's middle name may have been Elijah, as my father's name is Everett Fernald Yates, Jr. and his brother is Preston Elijah Yates.
If you can help us in any way, we would appreciate it.

The above families were in Sidney, Fremont Co., IA beween 1842 and at least 1880. All were connected by marriage, mostly to a Gordon. The 1850 Census has Robert Gordon, age 60 living with Robert Watkins and wife Mary(Gordon). The IGI says he was the father of (at least) these Gordons: Thomas Morris, Mary/Polly, John & Robert. The first 3 were b. in Franklin Co. OH and John was b. in Delaware co., IN. That is where most inter-married. Have more for whomever is interestd. Thanks for the 1892 Directory of Farmers. AJ

I cannot find out where the Vaughans came from or much about them. I believe there was a Florence Vaughan that lived in Fremont Co, Sidney. Edwards' father, Milton Richards named Sidney because he was from Sidney, Shelby co. Ohio. Milton was first clerk of Sidney.
Shoemake is from my fathers' side, have hit a brick wall there.

I'm trying to find the connection. Thanks for any help you can give me.
