I just came across your posting for Amos C. Reed. After a couple of years, I am completing a supplement application for DAR on Amos C. Reed. On a recent visit to our local genealogy, I got on the computer for Ancestry.com. They had a listing from the Vital Records of Burlington for Amos Reed, born 26 Dec 1836, Burlington, Father: Ralph. I am now trying to find these actual records to verify that this might be Amos C. Reed with birth approximately 1837.

Nice Job on this website Bobbie.
I am researching the Bishop family from Broken Bow, Nebraska. A son of George (DOB:1823) and Mary Cady Bishop (DOB:1831) was Charles Bishop. Charles married Flora Graves and lived in Kansas when the estate was settled. Charles was brother to Nora Ida Bishop Hastings. Nora is my direct line. Nora died young but left three young children. I have never found living relatives. Your site has Charles and Flora Bishop. There is information and photos of the couple. I am so excited. Thanks for the data. I hope to help you. How are you related to Charles and Flora Bishop?
Thanks,

Gus died in Hempstead, Co. and Minnie died at Nashville many years later. Both are buried in Antioch cemetary near Nashville. My great grandfather's name was Elisha or similar, Hempstead Co. I have known how we go back to Mark Tollett but I had been wondering how we fit with the Browns. This helps.
I recently received copies of letters written by C.S. Brown as he and his family were exploring the Red River in 1819-1820. He had written to one of my Tollett ancestors back East.

Great Site. I found this by accident while doing a google search. I've spent the last two hours looking over the Gray/Churchman family tree and the pictures. Martin Van Buren Gray is my gggrandfather, John A Gray my ggrandfather, my grandfather Eddie Clarance Gray born 1888 and my Father Everett Gray Born 1915. I've printed out some copies of them to show my Father who is still in Good Health. He will be excited when he sees them. We Still Live Yell County Arkansas, About a Mile from where Martin Van Gray and his wife are Buried. Do you have any Idea where picture of Gray 1914 reunion was Taken at? Appreciate all the hard work you've put in the Site.

Hello, my name is Kc Freeman. While I was trying to find parents for my
GGGGrandma Elizabeth Strahan, I found someone who listed her as a daughter
of David Strahan 1755. I usually see his family listed without her {like on
your sight} so I was excited that this person showed her so I contacted him
and he gave me your site to check out. But he wasn't sure about his info on
Elizabeth being in this family he thought he may have just uploaded it from
a GED.com to his files. One thing I found interesting on your site was a
picture of Alex Strahan and his wife because I have a picture that is
labeled Mr. and Mrs. Strahan and it is not the same picture but I feel that
it possibly could be the same people. But it could be just wishful thinking.
I will attach it to see what you think. If it is then I would know that Alex
and Elizabeth were siblings because the back of the picture says so. I guess
I am basically wanting to know if you have any info that mentions my
Elizabeth and to see what you think of the picture.
Thanks Kc
Ps I just tried to email this to you but it didn't go thru so i just copied and pasted it here so I cant pass on the phot if you would like to see it please contact me.

Hi Bobbi,
I'm Rose Heath, daughter of Charles Milton Gilliam, Jane Woodfin Gilliam and later my step mother Virginia Mae West Gilliam married Charles after Jane died. Virginia lived with Gertrude, Beryl and Mattie Lou for a number of years before she married my dad - they all taught school together in Scottsboro. I always called the sisters "Aunt Gertrude", etc. because they seemed more like my aunts than my 'real' aunts did and I saw them more.
I try to keep in touch with Gertrude, but the last time I saw her was at my mother's funeral, and I'm looking forward to seeing her today if possible when we go up to Scottsboro. I don't think I've been this out of touch with her in a long time - I missed her 100th birthday because we were tied up with some family matters.
At any rate, I hope to be able to spend some time visiting with her today.
I wanted to mention that you might want to remove the social security number of one of your relatives you have posted......even though they are deceased, someone could still use that number to steal their name and identity, which really confuses things for geneology searches when that name starts appearing in the court systems! :-) Seriously, you don't want to make it easy for a crook to steal your relative's name so consider keeping the number handy, but I wouldn't post it online if I were you. Just think about it........you could leave a note on the page that you have the number if someone needs to contact you for it for some reason and can identify who they are and why they need it.
Thank you for keeping up with all this work, excellent-excellent job.
Rose Heath

Dear Bobbi, I really enjoyed reading your web site about the Crockett family of Maine. It seems that we are related. Nathaniel Crockett, born on April 25, 1750 is also in my family's lineage. This is the first name on my tree, compiled by my Aunt many years ago.
I had no visibility before of the lineage preceding him other than his father was also named Nathaniel, consistent with your tree. According to my records, he married Eunice Cooper on July 5th, 1771. They had fourteen children together!! The youngest was James, my ancestor, on April 9th, 1798. He married Mary Haskell in Portland, had 11 children in Maine and then in Ohio where they moved sometime around 1830.
I have this tree only on paper. I have been wanting to key punch it into electronic format, with all of the names available, but it may already exist somewhere. Perhaps you know of a source.
At any rate, I would be happy to send you a paper copy if it is of interest to you.
Thanks again for the great web site!!
Bruce Crockett, son of James Frederick Crockett

I am related to Beauregard Gibson (my grt grandfather), who had a sister named Isabella R. V. Gibson and a brother named Grover. Beau's father was John, who married Mahala Hulda Thomas. John's father was George Gibson, a justice of the peace and town planner of Grundy Virginia. He married Sarah Bedwith? I can not seem to find the missing link from this George, but I am sure he ties in because of the names George and Isabella being in the lineage. Can anyone advise?

Our great grandmother was Thena Elizabeth "Lizzie" Nelson, of Effingham Co., Il. She married first Henry Tresh(Troesch) and second John Henry Pifer. Her son William Otto Troesch was young and closer in age to Thena & J. H. Pifer. He often used his stepfathers surname. He had a head injury that severely altered his abilities to 'blend into the community', he married first, Anna Barger and they divorced. He ultimately became an alcoholic and a derelict having seizures. He was arrested many times for the crime of vagrancy and sent to Vandalia State Farm in Fayette Co., Il. He died in the State Farm of TB @ 11am on 25 Mar 1939. His death record has a few errors but one curious name appears and we didn't know if it was an error or another lead. His death record says that he was married at the time of his death and her name was Mabel Pifer. He is buried in Decatur, Macon Co., Il but our family was strong in the following Counties: Fayette, Macon, Effingham, Sangamon; Clinton Il. John Henry Pifer was from IN and as far as we know, there was only one child of their union, Edward Franklin Pifer. Thank you jk

Cora Little McKinley was my teacher in the fourth and sixth grades at Kinta Public Schools. I remember her very fondly. I also remember Elmer McKinley. I always perceived him as a very dapper proper gentleman. I believe that he worked at Farmers State Bank in Quinton when I was very small. After his retirement, I recall that he was a rancher. I owned an old tractor and brush hog when I was in high school and mowed pastures for him around Kinta when I was in the 8 through 12 grades before I left for college. I visited Cora once at the Stigler Nursing Home after I had graduated. My father taught vocational agriculture at Kinta High School during those years. Fond memories of fine people in a different era.

I am a direct descendant of Ephraim Clark(e) and Mehitabel Beardsley. My family is documented to present day.
Ephraim and Mehitabel migrated from Stratford to Cornwall, Litchfield Co., Ct. in the early 1740's and settled land named after him "Clarke Hill." In his old age he came down with measles and returned to Stratford and died. This is all shown in several of the history books relating to Cornwall, Ct. He had sons David (my direct line), born 1743, Cornwall, died 1811, Cornwall; son Hezekiah; son Uri; and son Silas. At least one son by the name of Ephraim is born to the family but died in infancy.
Until today I have not shared this information with anyone, this because of little documentation outside of the early Cornwall histories, written in late 1800's and early 1900's.
However, there is no doubt in my family we descend from Ephraim and Mehitabel Beardsley.
Regards,
Tom Clarke

Name: Tom M. Short II <mcveyshort@cox.net> Date: 2003-04-21 Date: 4/21/03 What Surnames were you looking for? Short Comments:
I have been working my 3G grandfather John R. Short in Fauquier Co. VA for about a year. A week ago, I found his middle name. In the 1800 tax list of Fauquier Co. he is John Randall Short. Based on 1810 census data and the first occurance I find of him in Fauquier Co. (assuming he is 21), I have him born bet. 1765-1768, place unknown. He died, with no will, before Aug.24, 1818 when his estate was first inventoried. A John Short (whom I think was the oldest son) was the administrator of his estate. John R. Short married Nancy Leach in 1794. So far, I have identified his sons as John,b. bet.1795-1803, Young,b. 1804, George L.,born bet. 1805-1810, Elijah b.?, and Benjamin Franklin Short,b. abt. 1815. I haven't figured out the daughter that was listed in 1810. Benjamin Franklin Short was my 2G grandfather. He had children Robert Young Short, George Thomas Short (my G grandfather), Elizabeth and Laura. There are many similarities to your William Short family, especially the occurance of Young Short, which is a pretty unique name to the Short's. What do you think? Look forward to hearing from you.

What a wonderful website, complete with references!!!
I am descended from Van Meters and the Vertrees families through Elizabeth Van Meter and Capt. John Vertrees. Their son, Charles, also married Jane (Jinsey) Ballard about 1825. Their daughter, Sarah, is my grandmother's grandmother. (Easier than writing all the greats.) Both Capt. John Vertrees and Jacob Van Meter are two of my patriot ancestors in DAR.

One of the very best sites I've visited. You site reflects a labor of love on your part. I started researching my Gilman/Gillman line three months ago and had no clue what I was getting into. I find it very exciting and will probably never stop searching, esp for my GGG Grandfather Richard Gilman/Gillman. It seems he fell from the sky and married Elizabeth Crigger in l8l0 and that is end of the story. Tomorrow is another day, another chance for a connection or link for my line.
The Edward Gilman line is interesting but it did not go into the l700 or l800's.
Again, best wishes on your site. Great job.
Sincerely,
Mary

Also, I noticed next to my grandmother's birth and wedding date it says private. Was that because you didn't have the actual dates or is there a disclaimer or something that says it must remain private? Also, Elmer had 9 siblings, however after Trula it says "the rest is all private."

Nice site. Seeing if you had anything on my line related to Benjamin Hyde from Sturbridge (1723-1797) who was married to Dorcus Dyer (1726-1788) and John Hyde (1750 -1808) one of his sons who was married to Olive Bascom.

Sorry I have found an inconsistancy in your data. John Sr. was married to Jane Shackleford and Mary --- and Elizabeth and Prudence Needham. Or maybe its my data. Anyway they are still the same family. Rhonda

Hello I am researching my husbands family and i think i have found a connection between your wortham family and his. His grandfather was Jack Wortham, his father was Sidney T. Wortham, his father was Thomas Byrd Wortham, his father was William Rufus Wortham, his father was Charles Wortham, his father was Edward Wortham, his father was James Wortham, his father was George Wortham, and his father was John Wortham Sr. born 1625 in Cambridgeshire, England. Married to Jane Shackleford. Died Middlesex, Virginia 1692. My husbands line of Worthams ended up in White County, Arkansas. Then to South Dakota where his grandfather Jack is buried in Rapid City. If you go to Familysearch.com and search for William Henry Wortham you will find the whole lineage. He was born 1594 in England and was John Sr.s great grandfather. Hope this helps. Rhonda
