My g. grandfather (Twenty-third Wisconsin )was taken prisoner at the battle of Carrion Crow, Nov. 3, 1863. I am trying to write a biography of him. While I have 110 letters he sent his wife, the letter sent her after his return to Union lines is very brief. I am trying to locate any letters/diaries/and/or official records that deal with the experience of the prisoners taken during this battle. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

My Great-Great Grandfather came from England and landed in Marion, Ohio with his wife and two children just before the Civil War.
His name was Henry Gildon.
I have letters that he wrote to my Great-Great Grandmother telling of the war as he was going down the Mississipi towards Vicksburg.
I also have copies of the purchase of his home in Marion, Ohio.
He stayed in Marion only a short time after being mustered out and moved to Ontario, Canada.
He talked in his letters of the small rations of food etc. and how many men were ill plus the horrors of the war.
It was just by chance that I came upon your web site and so it is a thrill for me to see my ancestor's name.
I shall "book mark" this site and forward it on to other family members.
