Very interesting, pretty; probably not for me...love the outdoors but it does make one stop to ponder the eventual place we should, or would want to end up.

Maybe I could end up in a genealogy library...that would certainly be appropiate...but hey thats not outside either. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Hi David, Don't know exactly how I found this site but glad I did. Was searching the Baugh side of my family way off in Georgia somewhere and ended up here because this is where my mother and grandparents are interred. I live in the Wichita area and don't know why I haven't found your site before this. Great job!!!!

Hi, Dave: It is great to be able to research the resting places of the prominent people of early Wichita. I also appreciate the historic and architectural aspects of the Mausoleum.

David,

I'm impressed. What an interesting hobby photographing those old mausoleums. I spend a lot of time in cemeteries, but never in a mausoleum. Great job.

I really think you need to deal with the issuse you have with death you are only 61 you have many years ahead of you do not focus on your death it is morbid. I'm donating my body to the body farm so they can let it decompose in the woods in the name of forensic science

Enjoyed the interesting article and pictures. My Dad, M.Paul Keller, was employed by George Saxton, essentially to work with the architect, supervise the construction of the extensive concrete work for the building, then personally set the marble for the interior. As you have outlined, the mausoleum was built in several stages, over a 30 year period, and M. Paul Keller had the above responsibilities for all of them.
As a kid I remember visiting the Saxtons on Delrose; my sister and I were instructed to be on our best behavior when visiting the boss and his wife. We also knew and visited Jimmy Paup and his wife Cordelia.
Thanks for helping me recall all the pleasant memories.

May I ask a personal question? Why do you want to be buried in a mausoleum? I'm just curious...

David,

Our family recently came upon your site and I want to thank you for the fine job you did in documenting the history of the Old Mission Mausoleum. Both my parents (Jack & Shannon Speer) and my grandparents (Clyde & Helen Speer) are resting peacefully in the North building. I am turning 60 this year and much like yourself I have been giving thought to my final resting place. Can you please tell me if you know of any available cribs at the Old Mission Mausoleum, also, can you give me any idea of the current cost.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share this information.

Sincerely,

Dave Speer (former Wichita resident...departed in 1962)
