WoW! Nathan, thank you for your most interesting site. I am trying to track stories and ancestors of my Grandfather; Ralph Ernst Goodwin from Hackney London, originally Mechanic on first K2 Submarine, 1 of 14 children in London - In WW2 ALL 14 children were sent off at 12 years old with suitcase packed to USA, Canada and Australia. Ralph later travelled on Banana Boats (have photos)to Shanghai and West Africa then to USA then to Canada. I met his son in Iowa (1993) - Ian Nixon - when I was travelling USA and understood Vera & Ian were friends of the family from 'war time'. Since then he has died of Alziemers! I know one of Ralph's sisters died in the Great fire of Chicago. That leaves 10 siblings in USA/Canada/Aus. Please contact me if these words ring any bells...p.s. I followed, unknowingly, in his footsteps living in Chicago and later in West Africa!? Goodwin name comes from 'Good Friend' or Godwin... originally monks...apparantly!? You can also contact me at graemegoodwin@yahoo.co.uk

My gggrandfather,Thomas Goodwin was apparently born in 1810 in the Isle of Man. this was deduced from the 1850 US census in Jefferson county NY. Subsequent census years he showed Ireland as his birthplace. I don't know where to start. He had a brother John (B:1814) who was recorded in in the same 1850 census showed his birthplace as Ireland.I would appreciate if someone could help me out.

What a great site!
After reading some of the comments from other Goodwins I just had to add one more comment.

"what is it about those Goodwin ears"

it seems to be a trait that is lasting through generations.

My father Brian Goodwin also inherited the unfortunate trait but it seems to have missed his children,we are waiting to see who produces the grandchild with the F.A. CUP EARS.

one thing is certain it wont be me, i have produced 3 little Goodwins, John, Amy and Jordan.

Congratulations on a great site.

I'm just visiting the Goodwin website. My Dad was born in San Augustin TX; his father was Polk Goodwin. My Dad, Henry Lester was born in 1916, so I'm guessing his father was born 25 years earlier, approximately. This would be around 1891. Polk was married to Eva Missouri Hook. If you know anything about Goodwin's in that part of Texas, I would appreciate knowing about them. My sister's and I are thinking of planning a trip there.
Thanks

Hiya!
I am just having a nose around to maybe see if I have family anywhere that I do not know. As far back as I know, (I am aged 21) is that my great grandfather Eric Goodwin, owned a cinema in Nottingham, UK, he had a son Richard (my grandfather) and a daughter Ruth, Richard had two sons, Jonathan and Simon (my father. My grandfather married Eileen Broughton.

Get in touch if anyone knowws anything!! Thanks

Fantastic website. Great stories of good but sad times. The pictures are super. I felt like I was living your entire book. God bless you for doing such a marvelous job. I'm sure it was made with love and care. My heart goes out to you and your beautiful family.
I was checking for Goodwins in Maine and in Canada when I fell on your site. Would you have any relations to Daniel Gooden-Goodwin, who came to Kittery, Maine USA? I wonder if we have any relations? Again Congratulations on such beautiful work.

Nathan...splendid job...but sadly of no use to my research...interesting to see you live near to the site where a famous GOODWIN - Harold Godwinson died..
I can trace back to the 1500.s where my Goodwin Ancestors have lived within 5 miles for all that time...so as a Genealogist you will realise that they have lived there since the Normans introduced surnames...entries in the Domesday Book, show that the area was held by GODWIN...a free man, in 1066...so it is likely that is wher my ancestors originated...probably as followers or supporters of Godwin....there are stories that the remnants of the profeesional Saxon Army..the Housecarls came to this area along with Harold's wife Edith Swan-neck...and held out for another 4 years before finally capitulating....the name Swannick is also to be found going back over the same period...........who knows if that is true..perhaps DNA testing may eventually prove a link....though I am a little sceptical.....thanks for sharing your Family Tree...you are obviously of that generation ....older than myself...who have mastered the art of Web Sites construction..well done !

Hello fellow Goodwins....and what a interesting site! I (like most of you) would enjoy any info on my ancestors as well. My family is from the Cushing, Oklahoma area. My father: Emit Goodwin, his father: Frank. This only goes back to around the turn of the century and beyond that is a mystery to me. Also, I was certain the name was an Indian name until searching around on the net. Just curious....do the rest of you turn around when someone in a public place says "have a good one!"? Keep up the good work, Tony a.k.a "the Birdman" Goodwin

Most interested in your Goodwin file. I descend from Sutton Valence, England Goodwins. My Greatgrandfather Frederick Augustus Godwin along with his sister Mary and brother William came to America about 1839 accompanied by their parents, Augustus and Mary Goodwin.Augustus' father was a butcher by trade. Elizabeth Goodwin Beek Price, sister of Augustus came to America also. Fred, Will and Mary all settled in NY, but after Fred and Will were in the Civil War, they moved on to Mchigan. So did their aunt, Elizabeth Price w/o William Price.
Unsure if any of these Goodwins were relatives to your English Goodwins My line is Augustus, Frederick, Charles, then Mabel Goodwin Parker, my mother.
Your site is most impressive and represents a great deal of work. A most handsome famly indeed and I think I see some look-a-likes to our Goodwin line.(Our Goodwins tend to have Prince Charles jugears.)

What a well-organized website. I am researching the Goodwin family (William and Ruth) who lived in Dearborn County Indiana in the early 1800's. They moved to Crawford County Illinois in about 1821. They had eight children by 1824 when Ruth died. Some census docs show William was born in Ireland and Ruth born in New York.

I enjoyed your site and if those picture are of your family you have a handsome lot.

I sent an email with the names of some of my Goodwin line on it. Back to Isaac born in 1736. The earliest record I have a first name for is Edward born about 1634 and shown as Amesbury, Mass. There is a reference his father as a Goodwin born about 1608 but doubt that he was born here in the Americas. Our family is from England but I have not traced them back that far.

Best wishes and regards on a fine web site.

I am researching Tjomas Goodwin who came to America from England or Ireland about 1870. He supposedly had a civil engineering degree. He came to America, so the family story goes, under dubious circumstances. I have been told he killed a man before coming to America. He worked for the railroad in Texas in the 1880s and 1890s and was supposed to have worked on the Panama Canal project. He died in 1913 in Texas. I can't help but notice the resemblance of Nathan Goodwin's ancestors to my relatives.
