I am researching a WW1 Veteran USMC from Newport, Ky., his name was James Wallace Costigan. He served in the 96th Company and was wounded June 2, 1918 and died July 31, 1918. The American Legion Post #11 is named after Costigan. I have no luck contacting the Post to see if they have a photo of Costigan as well as any details about his life.
I like your website, it is has been very helpful, thanks!

Your websites used to be one of the most complete sites to research on and now you don't have anyway near what you used to have. Why did you take marriage records and Newport historical info off line? Your web page and Chester Co. Pa. were the 2 best sites for a researcher ever.

I wish that I could attend your open house and meet Jim Reis. I have read on line a number of his newspaper articles on Kentucky. My grandmother was born on 2nd Avenue in Dayton,KY. She was a Rickels.

I would like to know a way to contact Mr. Reis. He had mention in one of his articles about the KIO (Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio) baseball league. My grandfather played in that league and I wanted to have some more information on the league.

I live in Slidell, Louisiana and we are still recovering from Katrinia. Thanks for your help and have a great open house. Kennett Whelchel

My grandparents, Rudolph and Alma (Bandle) Schneider, were members of St. Paul Evangelical (UCC) Church, Newport(Ft. Thomas) early in the 1900's. I have four well-preserved very artistic old certificates in art matting, and wonder if anyone would like to have then. I am hoping that they can "return home" to Northern Kentucky.
What I have: A marriage (Bandle-Kuehnle) certificate (1885), a baptismal certificate (1887) and a confirmation certificate (1901) are in German. A marriage certificate (1910) is in English. I have also a baptism certificate (1911) and a confirmation certificate (1926), in English, from St. John Church in Bellevue.
The certificates are in a nice portfolio. I can bring them to Northern Kentucky.

I have been to a few meetings. My mother and I have not felt too welcome so far.

At one of the meetings, there were a few requests for computer related help. I went to a few people to offer my knowledge and possibly volunteer my time to assist with their projects as they seemed to be bogged down and needed help - every one turned me down. Did not even take my name or number. Did not even seem interested in any experience that I might have.

I am wondering if this is really and honestly a gathering place to share and gain knowledge about the history of Campbell County or just a meeting place of old friends who are not open to welcoming new members?

I certainly hope that my initial impression of your organization is wrong. My mother and I are honestly wanting to research and discover all of the history of this great of part of Kentucky as our ancestors have been settlers of this great area for many years.

Our history is traced back to presidents as well. We are distant cousins of both President John Adams.

Genealogy is a major passion of mine and I would love to join organizations rich in this type of information.

I would ask that you offer out-of-state people a method to have research done, rather than just posting questions on the internet. Some research requires that it be done by the society itself.

I just wanted to thank you for the brief bit of history I was researching on an old silver cup I bought at an antique sale. It was dated July 14, 1880 with the inscription: Presented to Mr & Mrs G.E. Markley by the employees of Axline and Markley. Cinncinnati Ohio July 14, 1880. I did some research and found out from your historical directory/phone book listings, that they were a fruit commission. (Axline and Markley) I had tried to do some other research to find out if they were still located on 210 sixth street in Cinn. Oh. but found out that they no longer exist, I think, unless they have moved. I am not sure what I am going to do with the cup, my original intent was to give it to the company if they still existed. Thank you for the info. on your website. It was very helpful in gaining a little insight into history.

This is my first time to visit the page. It was fantastic! I enjoyed reading many of the articles. I do believe the Grandstand at the Alexandria Fairgrounds burned in 1974 or 1975, because I remember seeing the glow out of my bedroom window and I was married in 1974 (I was married at the time that it burnt). Thanks to all of the people that have given there time and talents that we may enjoy this information.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am an editor at Arcadia Publishing in Charleston, South Carolina, and I thought you would be a valuable resource for me, as our company is in the process of expanding our series of Kentucky titles.

You might be familiar with our popular Images of America books, found in major chain bookstores across the country and featured on our website at www.arcadiapublishing.com. Each book contains 200 archival images that depict a community's history from the birth of photography to the present day. Arcadia authors receive royalties for each book sold, and they have the opportunity to purchase their titles from us at a discount and resell them to the public as a fundraiser. All costs of book production, marketing, and distribution are assumed by Arcadia.

If you would, please pass my contact information along to anyone who might be interested in working with us on a Campbell County history title. I would be happy to mail out a packet of information, including a complimentary book, so you can familiarize yourself with our style and format.

Looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience,

I research the Charles/Caroline GOEBEL family of Grant's Lick, with sons Charles Henry, William and Fred. This GOEBEL family moved to Campbell county in the early 1860s after marrying in Cincinnati, Ohio. Charles, a Luterhan cabinetmaker, immigrated from Waldeck area of Germany in 1852. Caroline (nee ?) was from the Nassau area of Germany and came to Philadelphia in 1851. Both were buried in the Alexandria Cemetery in the first decade of the 1900s. Charles Henry Goebel moved to Missouri, to North Dakota, and eventually to Alberta, Canada. A brother, Henry GOEBEL, lived in Kenton county, and had a large family in Covington. I'm interested in either of these families, as well as other Lutheran immigrants from the Waldeck area, as well as modern day descendants of the families. Thank you.

My father's family name is Robinson and we've traced this back to Merry Ole England. My grandfather was O.W. Robinson a Methodist minister who served several churches in Northern KY. My quest is now in locating information about my mother's family. Her father's name was Henry Wasser, he operated a lunch stand by the bus barn in Newport. His parents were Joshep and Anna Schmidt Wasser whose parents were both from Germany. I think both Joseph and Anna were immigrents. I'm interested in knowing where in Germany they were from.

I had recently found that a descendant of our imigrant John/Elizabeth (nee JONES) GRIFFITHS resided in the community of Bellevue during some yrs before becoming ill, bankrupt and returning to the Jackson OH area and dying. He is buried with his parents and numerous family members at Moriah Cemetery in Jackson Co OH.
I have begun to work on the family that I thought was all in Cin. I have since learned the reason I could not locate a number of them is that they were in KY. I found this man on CINCH in an article that I hope to copy on a trip to Ft Thomas.
I have letters he wrote to his uncle, David J. GRIFFITHS, at the GRIFFITHS farm as well as a photo of his marker.
If anyone in that community is interested in them shout I will be sure copies are available.
I have compiled abt a 4 1/2 cd set of history of this family bk to his parents marriage records from the parish in Wales. I have parts of his brother's line in the Cin/KY area and hope to find more. Maybe some are interested and do not know.
If you society is interested in a family summary set shout. It is abt 10 pages (printed on both sides) listing just the basics of the family history. Names, dates, spouse, children. I would be more than happy to jpg, send or drop off on one of my trips to KY.
I am hoping now with the address found for him on your site to see if the blding is still standing and to get a photo of it if possible.
Again thanks for the tour.

I put my comments of the Campbell gen web page then I found the soceity page. It's tough getting old.

Since our first (and last) visit looking for information about John and George Parsons, my GG grandfather and G grandfather respectively, I have had the good fortune to secure George's civil war service and pension records from the National Archives, which are about 2 hoursnfrom our home. It is a very interesting and bizzare career, but he finall made Sergeant Major of the KY 23 Infantry regiment.
Still need information about his divorce of Athalinda (nee Murphy) and some idea of his activities after service before I can write his life story.

Haven't been as fortunate with John. Still stuck knowing only his marriage to Mary Bryan in 1820, names of their children and that he is buried in Asbury Cemetery. His tombstone reveals he was born in 1797 and census records indicate it was in KY but no luck finding where.

We plan to visit the area in about a week and hope to drop by to see if we can fing more from the great library there.

Best regards, Bob Parsons from Midlothian, VA

The fourth and current 15th Infantry was constituted on 3 May 1861 at Newport Barracks, Kentucky.

In 1878, Lieut. J.F.C. 'Falls City' Hegewald of the 15th Infantry under Col. Peter T. Swaine at Fort Wingate, NM ( Under direct orders from Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, Army of The United States, collected the 'Sherman Logs' from the petrified forest near Navaho Springs Arizona.

The 15th participated in the campaigns against the Ute Indians of Colorado and Utah, and against the Mescalero Apaches in New Mexico and Arizona before relocating to Fort Sheridan, Wyoming in January 1891.

In 1880 Lieut. J.F.C. 'Falls City' Hegewald was still listed as a Lieut. in the service of his country in the
Federal Census. He was born in 1856 in New Albany IND.

Any one have any specific knowledge of this era? I'd like to fill in a few more of the blanks during this tumultuous period e.g.

*The Indian 'Wars',
*The Boxer Rebellion,
*The Spanish-American Wars,
*and a Philippine Insurrection
or The Aquinaldo.

Can anyone offer any specific insight into this period?

Anytime I have a questions, for example, where is Scaffold Creek, someone has sent an email. Would like to know more about early manufacturing in Campbell Co west of Alexandria. Noticed on 1883 Atlas Map there were many cooper shops and saw mills, probably due to the Distillery on Scaffold Creek. Wouldn't it be nice if someone would write an article on that topic in the next newsletter.
