First tour I served as an HHC Liaison Off couple months, took over 3d Plt C Co 2/7Cav and was wia in the Ia Drang, LZ Albany. Second tour served as Deputy District Adviser in the Delta, Long Dihn Dist, Dihn Thuong Pro, semi pacified by the 9th USID whose base camp,Dong Tam, was partly in our Dist. They invaded us on election night 1968 but we fought them to a draw and neither side reported casualties after nearly 30 minutes of firing at each other. Our RF troopers had M-16's, M-60's and M-79's by then and we used the same artillery:9thUSID's. If both of us hadn't called for a fire mission at the same time, the first one in would have wiped out the other and I called first.

Great Site, many thanks to its author.
My Brother served in Vietnam in the 11th ACR in 1970 during operation "Fish Hook" into Cambodia. I came along later in 1977 joining the army at 19 yrs. My first duty assignment was with A Btry 2 / 19th FA 1st Cav Div. at Ft. Hood Tx. In those days the 1st Cav was no longer air mobile it had converted to an Armored Division and the 2nd/19th FA had traded in its 105's for the M109 Self propelled 155mm howitzer. I started out as a 13B cannon crewman and later converted to 13E Fire Direction Control. I left 2nd / 19th and 1st Cav. in Dec. 78 and was assigned to 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany and stationed with the 3rd Sqdn. patroling the Chech border.
To all the Men and Women that have served, are serving and will serve we owe you our freedom and our undying respect and gratitude.
"If you aint Cav you aint -----"

My name is Gina and I'm writing this on behalf of my dad who doesn't have e-mail access at this time. My dad was with the 2/19 during 68-70. He opened up LZ White, was on LZ Becky, LZ Carolyn, LZ Ike, LZ English and many others. He was also in Phuc Vihn, and Tay Nihn. He'd very much like to reconnect with the guys from back then, and he's also especially hoping to find a guy they called "Stump". He's not sure of the guy's real name, but thinks that he might be from pennsylvania. On 8/11/69 on LZ Becky, the guy got his foot blown off and my dad carried him to the medevac copter. He's always wondered what happened to him, as well as all the rest of the guys he served with. If anyone thinks they may know him - or was in the same places at relatively the same time, he'd love to hear from you. So please feel free to respond to the e-mail address above and I'll be sure to immediately forward any correspondence to him. Thanks a lot and god bless.

What a lovely tribute to your dad! You've done a marvelous job with this website. Your dad looks familiar but I'm sure it's only because so many of our young men were just skinny boys when they went and are now middle aged men. Am curious, tho, as he's a truck driver living in Texas if he might ever cross paths with a former Marine from Midland who drove trucks at one time? It's a long shot, but questions never asked are never answered. At any rate, keep up the great job you're doing with this site. May God bless and keep you and yours.

This site is dedicated to my dad. With the hard work of my
sister. Dad hasn't talked much of his military history and
understandably so. It can be painful. With this I hope to
gain more insight.
Thank You to all who visit and sign in !!

This is just a test, to make sure the guestbook is in working order. Not sure if dad was in Pleiku or An khe. Some of his boxes of slides were marked Pleiku, so I thought that was where he'd been, but then saw that An Khe was where the 1st Cav. had their base... so I need to ask him. Some of the guys he remembered were Frederick Poole, Chet Steckel, Arthur Scott, John Hicks, Gordon Shumate, "Nails" Neilson, Sgt. Desoto, Decoster & Elliot (no first names on the last three). Thanks! Karmen
