Hey I just typed in Mahalia Jeneva Jeanett into a search and ended up here! I guess we are somehow related - althought at this point I am very confused. I am descended from Mahalia Crawford and Thomas Byrom - their daughter Edithe Lorene Byrom Yarborough had my mother Verna Lea Yarborough - then May - then Zaiontz - I am Verna's daughter Suzanne. I could give you plenty of info on the Yarborough family if you are interested. Wondering if you have anything further back past Polly Ann Petty and George Marion Crawford and anything further back past Milton Byrom and Nancy Arnold and past Mary Elizabeth Hill. Wondering if you've heard some of the same stories I have about on of them being poisoned by slaves? Or the story that this family came from Somerset England and started towns named Somerset until they settled in the one in Texas?

I was surprised to see most of the family there --- I have a lot more info on the Thomas Jefferson Byrum (father of Von Porter Byrum, my grandfather) line. Let me know if you want more info - My mother and Uncle are the last living children of Von Porter (and Adelaide McGinn). I have lots of info on the McGinn line and the Alexander line. Great books too. The Alexanders are decendents of Hezekiah Alexander, signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. His house is a museum in Charlotte, NC. Search for the web site. I have photos of gravestones and some info of cemetery. Used to live near there and did lots of research at Charlotte library...

I think Viney Eliza Shubert(b 1862) was the sister of my paternal ggrandfather Joseph (b 1868). Their parents were Madison and Susan from (Madison County) Alabama. Madison Shubert was a private in the Confederacy. I was searching for information on the family before their son Joseph moved to Collin Co. Texas. Joseph's daughter Lilly Mary Frances married Tom Woodard and had children---One 84 yr old surviving grandchild of Joseph (great nephew of Viney Eliza) is living in Allen Texas. Another of Joseph's daughters had the legacy name, Martha Susan elViney(as it was spoken)but we called her Aunt Mattie :)
Viney Eliza Shubert married Wm Byrom in 1883.

Trying to find info on my husband's distant family: My husband is related to the Donaho family in Oklahoma somewhat. They all grew up together and Donaho is trying to research their family:
Lester Donaho was a family member. He was called Pat and had sister Ester or Hester who died young.
There was a Robert Erwin Donaho and his father, Blaxton Donaho. Blaxton is buried in McGee Cemetery in Stratford Oklahoma and so is his wife Mahaley.
Other family members are James Calvin, Bill, Naomi.

My husband is related to the Donaho family in Oklahoma somewhat. They all grew up together and Donaho is trying to research their family:
Lester Donaho was a family member. He was called Pat and had sister Ester or Hester who died young.
Grandfather was Robert Erwin Donaho. Great grandfather was Blaxton Donaho. Blaxton is buried in McGee Cemetery in Stratford Oklahoma and so is his wife Mahaley.
Some of the children of Lester were: James Calvin, Bill, Naomi.

I am distantly related through Thomas L Dryden, born 29 May 1793. He is the father of my gggrandfather. One of the older Drydens has published a book on our ancestory, per a distant cousin, Jenni Dryden of Pa. They have traced this line of Drydens' back to 1683 to Edinburgh, Scotland. Their names were William and Agnes Driden(Dryden). They arrived on Marylands' Eastern Shore as indentured servants. They brought most of their children with them. William and Agnes were arrested in Scotland for handing out leaflets promoting the Presbyterian church (newly formed and known as Covenanters). They were imprisoned in Tolbooth Dungeon in Edinburgh for a couple of weeks along with others until they caught a break from some connection they had high up. Instead of being executed, they were put on ship to the Colonies. That's the origination of the Drydens in America in a nutshell per Jenni Dryden. Hope this helps some what.

I wish someone in my line would've done this. I am trying to now but it's hard because the only decendants of James M. Have been trying to connect our Canadian ancestors to some line in England, but have not yet been successful. We have a Frank William Byron born 1825 in London, married a Harriet ?, had (at least) 4 sons: Frank 1853, Percy 1855, Edgar A. 1860, Alwyn 1864 before coming to Toronto in 1866. The sons were all born in London, but we cannot find birth recordss on any of them. Frank W. was a commercial traveler dealing with books, stationary, etc.; he & a couple of his sons knew the printing business - for awhile he worked for the Copp & Clark Co. which is still partially in existence today outside of Toronto. For those times, they must have been considered fairly literate (2 sons names suggest naming after authors - Percy Shelley & Edgar A. Poe), esp. when our other English side had a fair amount of money but couldn't even write their own names in the 19th cent.
