I am trying very hard to determine birth and death places for John Bowley born 1789 and locating in Township #4 or #5. His children's names are listed in a Carthage Town record. Mary (Polly) moved to Elmwood, Peoria, Ill. sometime after John's death in 1842. Apparently a family group left together. I don't know if John died in Maine or if he left with the family and died in another state. His last property records show up in 1840. Who would you recommend that I contact for some advice in searching for his death notice/burial if such a thing exists? Thank you Una Jean Peterson

Sean Minear here, descendant of Robertson, Welch, Merchant, Phinney families here in Weld. VERY impressed by all of the work that has gone into putting this site together. The Weld Historical Society will be publishing our annual newsletter in May....if interested in a copy, please let me know. We also have extensive gen. files at the Society. Chris Cochran is our resident genealogist....will try and get her email to add here.
Our theme for this coming summer's five programs is Weld 101....a look at the founding of the community, business and industry over the years, roads and schools, perhaps tours of Weld's oldest homes. We will also our annual Heritage Day on July 28th. Again, if interested in more info, please get in touch.

Otis H. Melendy settled in neighboring Perkins Plantation, about 1866, after returning from the Civil War. His father-in-law, Luke Chandler, had settled in Perkins Plantation sometime prior to 1848. Otis Melendy and Harriet Augusta Chandler were married (ostensibly at Weld) on November 11, 1866.

My great grandfather,Otis H. Melendy married Harriet Augusta Chandler at Weld on November 11, 1866. Do you have Weld marriage records for that period and would you have a record of this particular one.
Otis Melendy had a farm in Perkins Plantation, according to family "lore." Can you tell me where I should go for property records pertaining to Perkins Plantation?
By the way, the father-in-law of Otis Melendy, namely, Luke Chandler, also had a farm in Perkins Plantation, dating from some time prior to 1847. I am on the hunt for property identification in both cases.
Thanks for inviting my questions. I will look forward to feedback.
