According to his will, his widow was An Susanna, and his children were Sarah, Ellender(Eleanor), Elizabeth, George, Mary Magdaline and Nancy. It is believed that his daughter Sarah married Adam Yoder, while her sister Eleanor married his brother Daniel Yoder. No clue is too small!

Hi, just looking over some old web sites and saw this. My Watkins ancestor came from Georgia, married a SC woman, went to GA, AL, and settled in Rusk, Texas. Working back from what I am sure about, this is all I am certain of: My G grandfather, Henry Bryant Watkins, b AL 1848, lived in Rusk, Texas, died in Bowie, TX in 1927.[he married DE Alsabrook, whose family was from Georgia] He may have been an orphan. I understand that a Henry Watkins, b. 1827 Georgia and his wife Malinda died, leaving 6 children. My Henry Bryant was in the 1870 Rusk, TX federal census with the family of William Pearce Watkins (b. GA, abt 1822) and wife Nancy Hopkins (b.SC). Their children's names include Green Lee, Emily Caroline, William Albert, Adaline, Franklin, Mary, and James. William Pearce was also noted in Lumpkin Georgia area, and his father may have been a Henry Watkins. Any ideas? Haven't been able to match up. I have connected with descendants of Green Lee Watkins.
thanks. Lucia

Lois, we need to compare notes on the Watkins, Davises and Warrens again. I found a Joseph Watkins in Rowan Co., NC, about the same time a James Watkins was there - 1750s. I saw Joseph Watkins and Henry Watkins in Pendleton in 1810 and 1820 I think. But in 1830 Henry Watkins was living next door to Daniel Davis in Lumpkin Co., GA. We are pretty sure this Daniel Davis is a brother to my George Davis. Daniel married Rachel Martin, Cherokee, and George Davis m. Rebeckah Martin. George's daughter Charity Davis b. 1803 m. John Griffin Watkins, son of James Watkins and Mary Griffin. Mary Griffin's parents were Andrew Griffin and unknown. Sandy

Thanks for the compliments and the referrals. I wanted to give you a heads up as to my current thoughts about Martha the wife of Samuel Young, Esquire, the coroner. I think she was a Giffen / Giffin rather than a Lewis or Kilpatrick. I had been misreading the son's name as Griffin, but rechecking various notes and sources I am now convinced his correct name is Giffin rather than Kilpatrick. Her daughter Elinor seems to have married an Andrew GRIFFIN, but I have not researched that connection and it could be another misreading. It is possible she married a Giffin cousin of some sort. Daughter Nancy married John Fleming McClure and the McClures had multiple marriage links with the Kilpatricks. John Fleming McClure's sister Martha was married to Hugh Kilpatrick the head the Kilpatrick clan in Rutherford county if I have probably understood the record. Giffin Young married Rebecca Scott, but I have little on her family.

I just visited the following page that listed you as a source of some of their information:

http://home.rose.net/~sarah/Ross.html

There is an error at that site. Margaret McFalls who married Hiram Ross was the daughter of Arthur McFalls and Mary, surname unknown. The site has Mary Roberts. This is an error.

I know where they are getting this wrong information. Margaret McFalls had a brother Alfred (Alford) McFalls who married Mary Roberts. Alfred is incorrectly listed as the father of his own brother at the following site:

http://www.smokykin.com

Beckwith who put that site online is aware of his error but will not correct any of the errors on that entire site.

I furnished the McFall information for the Sevierville Tennessee Heritage Book. Beckwith lifted that information onto the web and completely messed up the McFalls Pedigree in so doing.

I have worked on the McFall(s) family since 1977, and so far none of us have a single clue as to the surname of Margaret McFalls' mother Mary.

Margaret McFalls Ross's brother Alfred McFalls married Mary Roberts. She and he had 2 sons. After Alfred died (between 1840 and 1850, Mary Roberts McFalls then married a Lindsey and lived in Wears Cove (now Wears Valley) Sevier Co. TN.

I'm a descendant of Heskett 'Hart' Watkins, Jr. through William Heskett Watkins, Luther Martin Waktins, William David Watkins, James P Watkins, Sr. Or in other words, one of the Upson Co., Georgia Watkins'. I've been sorting through all the various sources and have been trying to make sense of much of the garbage I find on the web regarding my ancestry. I've found your site very refreshing, acutally giving sources for your info. Seems to be common sense, allow someone to verify your findings, but it isn't a common practice.

I can help you clear up the mystery of Joseph Watkins missing from the 1810 Census. He was in Pendleton, but the census taker recorded the name as Jo. Wadkins, with 'Jo.' being an abreviation for Joseph in the same manner 'Wm.' is abreviated William. This is about page 239 I believe.

Again, it has been a pleasure browsing your site this evening.

Regards,
Parnell

I would deeply appreciate any information you have on this family. Thank you,

Any good stories you'd like to share? Surely in all these generations, there must be some wonderful recollections from all those that descended from Joseph and Fanny. Feel free to reply to the above address. Thanks again, Elizabeth.

I descend from Uriah Wilson Davis, son of John Davis and Margaret "Peggy" Poston. He is my gg-grandfather. Married Hannah Campbell daughter of Allen Campbell and Margaret Cathey. I just today sent off photocopies of the adminstration of his estate by A. B. McWhorter in Walker Co., Ga. He was usually called Wilson and there is a record of another Wilson Davis who deserted the CFA in Sept 1863. However, A. B. McWhorter's records show that his first record regretting the adm is for a 9 Jan 1863 transaction. So the deserter is some other Wilson.

I have attempted to connect your Samuel, son of Samuel & Rutha, as the same Samuel A. Stancil that married Nancy E. Whisenant Starks. I haven't had very good luck since some on the Genforum web site insist he married someone else. Perhaps you have more information on this younger Samuel and can tell me who yours married. According to my Samuel's tombstone, he was born March 24, 1849 and died October 07, 1909. He is buried in Whitfield County, GA next to at least 2 of his wives. Nancy E., my great-grandmother with whom he had 6 children. And on the other side is his last wife, Stella Southerland with whom he had 1 daughter. I have pictures of the tombstones and pictures of some of his children. Also have traced some of them and spoken to them. One son went to Texas. One went to Virginia and at least 2 lived in Catoosa County, Ga. I have copies of his will also.
Any info you have that can help me separate your Samuel from mine would be appreciated. Would be glad to share info with you.

John Peter Fouts' grandson, Samuel Gordon Fouts was farming with his father, James Dolphus Fouts, in Warrior, Al., when J.D.F. said, drop what you'r doing and come down here. and hailed a passing wagon. I bet you bought that wagon in Elijay, Ga.. Why, how could you know that? I bet his name was Fouts. You couldn't possibly know that!Who are you? That's my brother and I'd know the sound of his wagons anywhere. They caught up on the family news and Uncle Sam, the original base with the Oak Ridge Quartet, said that was the last he heard of his relatives in Elijay.

Hi Tom,
Your information on Hamilton is interesting for several reasons. First, I happen to own several Hamilton railroad
watches, and second, although I am currently in Florida, I
lived most of my life in New Holland, PA, about 10 miles east of the Hamilton factory. A number of my relitives work-
ed there, but the're all gone. Incidently, about 50 years
ago, my great uncle who was a long time employee gave me a
block of bright steel which he said they made the hair
springs from, and I still have it. Thanks, Bob

I am interested in a GREEN family of Rutherford County,N.C.
John GREEN (1797-1858) married Aletha McKINNEY in 1819. They settled in the Piney Mountain section of the county where they had ten children, only two were girls. I have tried to connect John to Shadrack GREEN but have been unable to find the owner of the GREEN Bible. IN Shadrack GREENS will he mentions someone called John . Many researchers feel he was a son but after many years of searching no proof has been found. Wish to know the parents of John. Will gladly exchange.

Enjoyed reviewing your info relating to the Spratling family.

You may want to review the records at Crest Lawn Cemetary.

This cemetary is located in fulton county Ga.

Grover C. and Junior are buried at this location.

Hershel, Gladys, Ruth, Cassie, Luther and Roy were my aunts and uncles.

Roy, from what Ive been told, left many years ago maybe around the late 50s or early 60s and more or less was never heard from again.

There was another brother don't know his given name. All of the family called him JR. supposedly because he and his father had the same name.

He also passed away in the early 60s.

I thik he is also buried at Crest Lawn.

Have a great day !!!

Can't seem to get in to the surnames however, I am a Ross and Frances Marion Ross - one of my forefathers. Marion Nathaniel Ross, James Nathaniel Ross my grandfather and James Junior Ross my Dad. James Nathaniel Ross had several siblings. William, Florence, Docie, Dolly (not her real name) and a brother that I think is George. My Grandfather was born 1881. Frances Marion I think was born in Mississippi. My Grandfather was born in Henderson County Texas, Athens Tex. Eventually they moved to Alba, Texas and that is where he and his father and my father are buried. Sound Familiar?

My grandfather was Chester Nelson and we have been able to tell that his family also came from NC roots. From my understanding his grandfather was one of 12 brothers which we have traced most of them but have not been able to verify them yet. With the help of your site I may be able to make a connection. I will soon see.

I am seeking info on John Watkins parents. I believe they may have been Jack Watkins and Kizzie, parents of Hezekiah who was born 3/2/58 at Frozen Creek, Breathitt Co. I have based by belief on the proximity and dates of birth for John and Hezekiah. I could be totally off base. Any info on Jack and Kizzie would be appreciated.

I have reviewed your web site and I want to tell you it's one of the best I've reviewed. You have certainly done a fine job. Also, it is very easy to search. I'm just sorry that I can't find a connection with our Ross families or for Winifred Wheeler b 24 Oct 1799 NC, d 18 Sept 1865 Ill, married David Brogdon. I live in Arkansas. If there is anything I can help you with here, let me know. Thanks.

I'm searching for info, especially parents' name and spouse's maiden name, for John Ross (b c1804 NC, according to 1860 Independence Co., AR census). Other names on the census: wife, Mary b c 1804 NC; Children: Rachel, 22; John, 21; Nancy 17; Southern?? 16; Joseph 14; Elizabeth 13; Mary M. 9; and Sirena 6. Census indicates that all children were born in NC but a later census record indicates that Joseph H. (my line) was born in TN. I cannot tell what the one name is for a male child...on 1860 it looks like Southern; on 1900 census it looks like Sutherd. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might connect to this family. Thank you.

Hello YOUNG researcher! You mentioned your JAMES YOUNG but did not tell any of his children? Since I came here after a search of a Nelson-Young search, I will share some of what I have and wonder if we can connect. This family descends from a James Young who married Saloma Comar in the early 1800's in (probably Canada)Their son Alanson Crosby Young had a son James who married to Maggie Miller. James and Maggie had a son James who married to Maude Bentley and moved to California where they had a James as well. BUT they also had an Irene YOUNG who married to Clayton Nelson. Since I have much to share on these Youngs, it would be nice to find some of them! Probably not yours, but if so, please contact me at the above address. Thanks, Marjorie

Thank you so much for the information on the Stansells.
William Roberts Stansel is my 3 or 4th great-grandfather. One of his sons, Martin Luther Stansel, was a Colonel in the Civil War on the South side. I also have acquired, through an inheritance, a Civil War teapot that belonged to Olivia Sherrod, Martin Luther's second wife. I also in possession of the David family Bible. In it, someone, thankfully, had written out the children of William Roberts
Stansel and a short history of the Stansels. The information the Bible has is that the Stansels came from Saxony in Germany. I also found that Stansel may be Welsh.
I'm still in the process of finding that out, too. As you can see, I was given the family name as a first name. I am a female, and my name gave me some problems: I was put in the boys PE class.
Anyway, thanks for the information. As I come through the David line who married a Riddle, this is useful info.

I am always searching for my Watkins Roots. My ggggrandfather was William Wadkins who married Eliza Robertson (I think) in Franklin Co. Georgia. One of their sons was Henry Putman Watkins/Wadkins (name changed on military records) who married Eliza Adkinson and enlisted in the Union Army from Nashville TN. One of their children was George Henry who married Lena Margaret Potts of Eastport, Mississippi. My father was William Payne Wadkins who married Stella Elizabeth Waldrep. Family names that run in our family are Oscar, Paten, Dock, Dave, George, Henry, etc. I find many of these names of other trees but can't make a connection to my family. Your page is great and I will be back to see if I can find a connection. Keep up the good work!

Nice site. I have been searching for info on my husband's grandfather, WILLIAM PENROD NELSON probably born about 1890-1900. We've been told that he might have been from the Texas area. We know nothing about him, he and my husband's grandmother spilt apart either right before or right after my late father-in-law was born in June 1920. This was in Bedford or Craig County, Virginia. Penrod is a very unusual name and I'm hoping reconizes it.
Thanks, Linda

Your site is great, but I didn't find my Nathan Watkins there! He was born in NC probably early 1820's, but I found him in Lee Co VA early 1840's. He married Eliza Jane Pace and they headed to Missouri by the 1850 census, then down to Bourbon Co KS. Tradition says his mother died and there was a second marriage and a second family. His father disowned Nathan because he was against slavery, and we don't have a clue who his father could be. There was a Joseph Watkins in Lee Co VA and Claiborne Co TN who could have been a brother.

I cetainly love your color combination and the field of violets. Purple and lavender two of my favorite colors.
I didn't have much time to look except for the Watkins list.
I will return later.

Looking for relatives of George Watkins, my grandfather. I believe his family was based in Kentucky. He then moved to Oklahoma and married my Grandmother, Emma. They had three children. Cheryl, Gregory Neal, and Mike Watkins. If anyone out there knows anything I would appreciate it if you write me back. Thanks,
Neal
