This is an awesome site! Just checking back after first finding it some time ago. I am descended from Phoebe Belcher and Mitchell Clay. I have pictures of the monument to them in front of the courthouse in Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia as well as of the markers and scenic views of Clover Bottom where the massacre occured. Would enjoy hearing from any of Phoebe's decendents. Also have a copy of "FIRST AMERICAN BORN, The Live and Journal of Jonathan Belcher, the First-Known, American-Born Freemason" by David Crockett. It is interesting reading about the son of a Massachusetts tavernkeeper (1681-1757) who after graduating from Harvard traveled to England/Europe, met many prominent people including the Royal family in London, and according to the author became a Freemason. He was appointed Royal Governor of Massachusetts and New Hampsire in 1730. The book includes his journal and information on his extensive library, European contacts and other associates.

ok, so i found this site because.........[a few days before the signing of the guestbook]
So the day started at skool, we were in an ict class(nuthin fun ne way)
when mi teacher asks me the unexpected answer "do u have ne relatives in townsville"
and of course, the answer "no, all mi rellies are in england"
and then the catch, "I was just curious, because long ago when i was teaching in townsville, I actualli taught a Coral Belcher"
well, just too strange for me too handle, me mi friend didnt have a clue what to repli.....
so, we then got curious, as young girls do, and decided to look mi name up on google, well wat do u know nuthin comes up, well nothing about her ne way.
so (because the class is just too fun to handle) we decide to look up each others names, and of course shes on the internet ne way, then she looks up her family members, cuz there on there too,
so i do the same
and wat do u know, mi brothers name brings up strange results (and mi mums name came up with some celebrity thing(I wish))
and ne way, it comes up with this site, cuz a guy with the same name as mi bro has signed the guest book.
i coime home, add him on msn, go back on google, follow the links, blah blah blah
and waste 5 minutes of mi life writing a story that hardli ne ones gonna read :)

Hope you might be able to help me with something related to James Belcher born in 1768, and son of Isham. There is a James Belcher who appears on the 1790 census in Washington Co., Pennsylvania. The "kernel" of the area I am researching is contained within an article published in the Bandon Parish Magazine in 1909 that was copied by my Great Aunt (see below). Clearly I know my line but I have absolutely no further information on the multitude of descendants of Dr William Belcher, some of whom no doubt emigrated from Ireland (http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/e/l/Henry-J-Belcher/). Old Bandon Families
-Belcher-
The family of Belcher were well known in Bandon, came from Gloucestershire, near Bristol in A.D. 1610. The name itself, spelled Belcher, Bellcher, Belshire, is found in the old Registers of the Parish of Frampton Cotterell, six miles from Bristol, where a small cluster of houses is known as “Belcher’s Bartonö to the present day. A Bristol colony was part of the original settlement in Bandon in 1610, and curiously enough the present Rector of Frampton Cotterell is a Bandon man, and son and grandson of Bandonians. He is the son of Henry Belcher and grandson of William Belcher who lived and died at Kilbrogan, Bandon.
In the last century the Bandon Belchers were mostly medical men. William Belcher who died in 1827 and is buried in Kilbrogan Churchyard was a medical man and three of his four sons were medical men. The eldest was Capt. Robert Tresilian Belcher, who commanded his company in the 32nd Regiment at the battle of Waterloo, and is honourably mentioned by the Duke of Wellington in his report of this famous battle. Capt. Belcher was well known county J.P. He died in 1849 and is buried at Kilbrogan as is his brother William Belcher M.D. who died in 1839.
The third son of William Belcher who died in 1827, was Henry Belcher M.D. and the fourth son John Belcher M.D. R.N. He was born in 1809 and died in 1871 in Avenue House, Bandon next Ballymoden Church where his eldest son William Belcher M.D. died on the last day of the last century. John Belcher had five sons and one daughter. William Belcher who died in 1899. Rashleigh Belcher M.D. who died at Garston, Liverpool Dec 5th 1906. Robert Henry Belcher L.L.D. Rector of Lewes Sussex. John Hope Belcher M.A.B.Sc. Alfred Poole Belcher, and Elizabeth Belcher (Mrs Richard Clear of Bandon). William Belcher who died in 1827 had also two daughters, Frances who married George Dowden of Shannon Lodge, and Dora who married Richard Dowden. She died in 1849. A curious item in the Belcher family of the nineteenth century is the fact that for many years back and at the present time, three of their first cousins are clergymen and English Rectors. The Rev. William Belcher eldest son of William Belcher who died in 1839, is Rector of Haveningham near Saxmundham in Suffolk. The Rev. Robert Henry Belcher L.L.D. son of John Belcher M.D. Royal Navy who died in 1871, is Rector of Lewes in Sussex. The Rev. Thomas Waugh Belcher D.D.L.L.D.M.D ect. Eldest son of Henry Belcher who died in 1883, is Rector of Frampton Cotterell near Bristol and the only remaining Belcher of real interest in Bandon, having property there. This Dr Belcher is also a Senior Fellow of the Dublin College of Physicians and Physician to the Cork Fever Hospital, and Dublin Eye and Ear Hospital. The younger brother of the Rev. William Belcher was Dr John Waring Belcher lately deceased. He was Surgeon in the Navy for three years, and then entered the army Medical Service. He retired as Lieutenant-Colonel and resided at Plymouth where he died leaving issue: His eldest son Lieut. John Waring Belcher died in 1903. His eldest sister married Major Augustus Darrock Spiller of Kilbrogan Hill, Bandon. The Rev T.W. Belcher had a sister (Margaret Tindal Belcher) who died in 1907, she married James Hutchinson Swanton of Glandore, their son Colonel James Hutchinson Swanton of the Royal Marines, is now the Rev. Dr T. W. Belcher’s representative and heir to his property in Bandon.

Belcher of New York, Capt William Belcher 33rd Regiment, Capt Robert Belcher and Major A.D. Spiller, were all old Grammar School boys and were educated sub ferula.

in the civil war. He died in Augusta, Me. on May 22, 1898.
I am interested on learning all I can about him, particularly where he is buried. One source said he was buried in Togus, Me., but we have not been able to verify
that. The nationl cemetery at Togus has no record of him.

I am looking for Isaac Belcher and his wife Elsie Rose-Belcher. Rose is her maiden name. Isaac and Elsie are listed on the death certificate of Lewis Dean Belcher as his parents. Other than this small piece of information I cannot locate anything else. I cannot locate any other children of Isaac and Elsie and I cannot locate any brothers or sisters of Lewis Dean Belcher.
I do know that according to the death certificate he was born on December 22, 1880 and lived in the county of McDowell, city Premier, W.Va. He died on December 22, 1966 at 9:20 (the death certificate did not state a.m. or p.m.) in McDowell county Welch, West Virginia in Grace Hospital

My Great Great Grand father, William Richard Belcher, I believe, came to Cape Town, mid 1800's to the Cape Town Castle, with the Lancashire Regiment. The story goes, he was on his way to Australia with his brother, but deceided to stop in Cape Town. His brother, name unknown continued on to Australia. He (WR) married an Elizabeth (nee Munnik - de Waal or even Wahl!). They had 2 children, William Richard and Isabella, I have managed to trace these 2 children, through many long hours in the Cape Town archives. William, my great grandfather, I am his descendant, died in 1933. But I have failed to trace by GG grandfather's death or birth! I only have access to the internet a couple of times a year when I return from my work in Mozambique, but I do seem to have come to a dead end!

I know my great great grandmother Rhoda Belcher was the daughter of Robert Belcher and possibly Nancy Hawkins. Rhoda was born in VA in 1781. Would like the name of Robert's parents and any brothers and sisters. This family settled in Spartanburg, SC. Rhoda married William F. Piephoff, (War of 1812) William is burried in Boiling Springs, SC but don't have where Rhoda was burried. William and Rhoda apear on the 1810 census but don't appear again on the Spartanburg census until 1830. Where were they for 20 years??? Their daughter Ellender was born in 1819, and my grandfather said his mother (Ellender) was born in Ireland. Is this true???

I am looking for information on the O'Dell/Odle family who was in Haywood county TN until about 1839 and at least some of them migrated to Missouri in the Ripley/later Carter/Reynolds and Wayne County. Job Odle born about 1792 is my direct decendent. He had a son named Tompkins born about 1823-23, I would like to know if anyone knows the name of Job's wife and his parents.
