Hi, I've recently become interested in adding U E to the end of my name. My fathers name is Bruce Norman Ruttan. He is in the Ruttan family book titled " A part of the family of Ruttan 1590-1986" Since bein born in 86, I am not in the book. It leads back to Sir Capt Peter Ruttan, who faught in the American Revolutionary war. Please send me info on how to aquire the letters UE at the end of my name.

I am a descendant along two lines of UEL. ASA LANDON husband of Jerusha Grifface (Asa had been an ensign in this father's Militia Company in 1769 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1773. He decided to be faithful to the Crown and gave up his commission and joined Burgoyne at Skeensboro), his son HEMAN LANDON Husband of Dorothy Brown (Landen, Heman.... I am unsure how to go about registering all the family information but have collected the births, deaths, marriage, census, and can tie it all along both lines. A third line on the O'Neil side (William Phillips/Elizabeth - dau Margaret Phillips/Patrick Jr. O'Neil Osnabruck) I am still working on to verify and validate. Thanks for your attention and any help is appreciated.

I am a descendent of Farrington Ferguson, (son of Richard Ferguson),who married Elizabeth Cole. He and his 2 brothers joined the Kings Rangers. I read that Farrington Ferguson was a young 14 year old soldier. I would love anymore information you might have on them.

My primary Loyalist ancestor was John Parcels, (also spelled Parcell, Persel, Parsils, Pearsel, Parsels, Persall, and several other variations). John was a farmer from Bergen County, New Jersey, who served the Engineering Department of the British forces in New York as a "guide and spy" according to sworn testimony by fellow Loyalist John Baker. He and his wife Maria were evacuated from New York in September, 1783, and they spent the winter at Sorel in Quebec. In June of 1784, John and Maria arrived at Adolphustown with Peter Van Alstine's group of Associated Loyalists and was given property on Hay Bay. His wife died shortly after their arrival and John then married "Mrs. Parliament" - the widow of another Loyalist. He and his second wife relocated to the area now known as Northport on the north shore of Prince Edward County. In 1790, they had a child together, Richard, who was described as one of the first white children born in Sophiasburgh. When he grew up, Richard married Sarah Porter, the daughter of Loyalist Timothy Porter. John Parcels was remembered in several publications including "American Loyalist Claims, Vol. 1" by Peter Coldham, "The Loyalists of New Jersey" by E. Alfred Jones, "Voyage of a Different Kind" by Larry Turner, and "Settlement of Upper Canada" by William Canniff. John Parcels was officially recognized as a Loyalist by the UELAC on September 26th, 2005. In addition, I have successfully applied for recognition of two other Loyalist ancestors, Timothy Porter and Henry Simmons, and I am starting to work on official recognition of two further Loyalist ancestors, John German and Garret Vanderburgh. Further details of these Loyalists are recorded in my upcoming book: "King and Country" - complimentary copies of which will be provided to the genealogy sections of libraries across Canada in 2008.

My gggg-grandfather, Nathaniel Parks was a sergeant in Captain Thatcher's company of the 3rd Battalion of the New Jersey Volunteers, which was commanded by Lt. Col. Isaac Allen. (The battalion was redesignated as the 2nd Battalion after a regimental reorganization in 1781.)
This battalion served in the New Jersey/New York area until it was ordered south to join in the Southern Campaign. Col. Allen's battalion served with distinction at the siege of Fort Ninety Six, South Carolina, and later participated in the bloody battle of Eutaw Springs, SC.
Nathaniel received a grant of 600 acres in Sunbury County, NB on 24-Feb-1785. He was also one of 73 individuals who were granted four acres, designated as "Island Rights", on an island in the St. John River, NB. This grant was dated 08-Aug-1789. I believe the island in question is in the vicinity of Frederickton.
Nathaniel was born in Kingswood twp, Hunterdon, New Jersey in 1738. He married Elizabeth Parlee in 1760. After the War's end, he evacuated New York with ihs family on the ship "Duke of Richmond" in 1783. He died in NB in 1818.
Nathaniel's eldest son, Joseph, served in the same outfit as his father and attained the rank of Corporal. For his service he was granted 200 acres in Sunbury County, NB, on 24-Feb-1785. Along with his father, Joseph was one of the 73 participants in the four acre St. John River island rights grant.

David Parker served in the King's American Regiment 1777-1783.
From New Brunswick RS108 Land Petition of David Parker snr., June 4, 1795, F1039-- St. Mary's Parish, County of York:
" To His Excellency Thomas Carlton Esquire Lieutenant Governor and Commander in Chief of the Province of New Brunswick
The memorial of David Parker Senior of the late Kings A. Regt. humbly sheweth
That your memoralist anxiously wishes to settle in the province but is destitute of Lands and not able to purchase.
That your memoralist has explored a gore of land (on which he thinks he could support his family) that appears to be vacant by the plot annexed to the Nashwaksis Grant lying adjoining the front of Lots N 21-22-23 in said grant and adjoining the rear of part of a grant to Augustin White and others Easterly when lands granted to samuel Hallet and son.
Your memorialist therefore humbly begs leave to pray your Excellency will be pleased to grant your memorialist the above said gore of vacant land and your memorialist as in duty bound will ever pray."

Just a note that one didn't have to be a member of a military unit in order to be a Loyalist rather had to have demonstrated their support of the Crown, been resident of the Colonies prior to the War of Independance and suffered for this support as well as being forced to flee to British-held territory. What is the meaning of the various symbols used in your list (e.g. +)?
Your help will surely be appreciated.

Joseph Rogers (wife and Ferreby/Ferrebe/Ferraby Alexander) have been documented as a St. Augustine Loyalist.
He was my ggggg grandfather
Of all the arrivals that history has recorded, the group of about 260, both white and black, which arrived in Halifax, NS from St. Augustine on July 29. 1784 in the Argo was the most pitiable; their poverty and distress the greatest. This distressed shipload have been known as the St. Augustine Loyalists. When they had fled from the Carolinas or Georgia, these people were or had been Loyalists but now they were something more...they were made refugees by England's own action. The St. Augustine Loyalists had been the staunchest of England's supporters, now sacrificed for a fancied national advantage. Joseph Rogers, wife Ferreby and three children over ten were part of that impoverished group.
The family continued to Chedabucto/Manchester Township in which he was granted land.
In a land grant dated October, 1784, Joseph Rogers was assigned a lot containing 400 acres on the west side of the Gut of Canso in the Township of Manchester.
Later Joseph granted land to his son Bryant Rogers as a wedding gift.
1 of Bryant and Jennet's 10 children was Fereby Rogers
1 of Fereby and Steven Mc Guire 4 children was
Bryant McGuire
1 of Bryant McGuire and Helen Kennedy 13 children
was Annie.
1 of Annie and William Wilsons 3 children was my grandmother.
I want to thank Mary Marshall Bates for having done the background research on the Loyalist part of my family tree.

WANNAMAKER... 7 Sons were born in New Jersey to Harmanus Wannemacher & Susannah Pulisfelt. All 7 were Loyalists.
1.) Peter; 2.) Henry; 3.) Johannis (John); 4.) Jacob; 5.) Andrew; 6.) Harmanus Jr.; 7.) Thomas;
Peter, Henry & Johannis (John) all fought for the 4th Battalion New Jersey Volunteers along with several cousins under Peter Ruttan's Command. I have about 22 of these original NJV Muster Rolls. All Musters are listed as early as 1776 ending in 1779, later Musters have not been found. The NJV regiment mustered for the last time on October 10, 1783. Peter ended his Army stint as a Sgt. as stated on his Land Petition.
It is believed Henry & John stayed in New Brunswich because records have been found in NB but none in Ontario. Peter is the only one listed in Loyalists Histories and Sources as a "true Loyalist of Ontario".
Peter is first noted in Ontario in 1784 with his regiment and acquired land at that time, he soon leaves Ontario, but appears owning land between his brothers Henry & John as well as other men near Maugerville, NB.
In 1791 Peter again recieves land "for which we had been previously promised" in Ontario, this time with other brothers, Andrew & Harmanus Jr. in Northumberland county, Percy twp. Peter's land in the rear concessions away from the water on Lot 79, Con.1, Bayside, while his brothers were in the front concessions. Land was also proven near Ameliasburgh & Rednersville in Prince Edward county, Ontario, where all of these brothers spent the rest of their lives.
It is believed the 4th brother Jacob may have been with the KOR, but there is no proof right now. The 3 youngest brothers were too young to fight and are known as "Loyalist Settlers". They recieved 200 acres when they turned 21 years old. I have photo copies of all these brothers land Petitions in Ontario dated 1791.
There is an abundance of information about these Brothers after arriving in Ontario. They married into many other Loyalist families. This information can be found in the RootsWeb Gedcom "World Connect", my Book "Wannamaker & Allied Families", and throughout my website.
