Hello, my uncle one Mr William Jesse Dowe born 1895 Norwich Norfolk lodged or lived with one Albert Bentley and his wife or sister Florence in Luton 1938 to 1960 and then Barton-Le-Clay 1960 to 1963, Bedfordshire, when Albert could have died. They could have been together as motor engineers in Smithies, Barnsley from 1928 to 1937. The link is that Williams whereabouts 1928 to 1937, not being known, could co-incide with Albert being in Smithies, and them all appearing in Luton in 1938 with William working at the Vauxhall plant.

"Your Thomas Bentley (1806-1895) was most likely the son of Layton Bentley (1775-1849) born in CT but lived in Washington Co., NY. Layton was the son of Benjamin and Deborah (Baker) Bentley. Benjamin was a son of William and Bathsheba Bentley and grandson of William Bentley, the immigrant to RI.
The basis for believing Thomas to be a son of Layton is that Benjamin's will mentions his son Layton and Layton's three oldest sons: Benjamin, Elisha and Thomas. Benjamin was born in 1799, Elisha about 1804. Three of the sons of Layton (b.1775) went to Chautauqua Co., NY: Benjamin, Thomas and Layton.
Your Thomas named a son Layton (b. Aug 1844). Although your Thomas is shown in the 1840 census for LaPorte Co., IN he apparently returned to Chautauqua Co., NY long enough to have a son Marcus/Marquis Lafayette born there."
My great-grandfather is Marquis Lafayette Bentley.

I was searching early ships' passenger lists embarking from England bound for New England in 1634 and 1635. I found four Bentley's listed, probably not direclty related to this William Bentley line. They were the following:
Mary Bentley, age 20, on the Defence, June 1635.
William Bentley, age 47, on the Truelove, September 1635.
Alice Bentley, age 15, on the Truelove, September 1635.
John (?) Bentley, age 17, on the Truelove, September 1635.
Both these ships sailed for New England or Boston. Evidently, our William Bentley, who came in 1671 on the Arabella, was not the first Bentley to immigrate to the New World. I would wager that other Bentleys sailed for the Virginia colony, resulting in the Kentucky and Georgia lines.

We used to live on Jamestown (ca.1966-1977). I saw Jane Bentley on the History channel doc. about Jamestown, and others, during Hurricne 1938. I think it is a repeat, but it was so nice to see Jane. I am doing some family research and have encountered a marriage certificate wherein the bride's mother's maiden appears to be Mary Benthley, of Ireland.
Backtracking ages, this Mary Benthley would probably have been born between 1842 and 1862, most likely on the later end of that range. While I do not have an actual immigration date to the US, they most likely arrived in the US from Ireland between 1886 and 1890. It is certainly an unusual spelling and I have been trying to see if any Bentley people can recognize it.

From what I know and from what I've been able to pull off of Ancestry.com my grandmother Evelyn Bentley was the daughter of Bert Bentley who was the son of Frank Bentley and the was was the son of Hiram Bentley who was the son of Thomas Bentley Jr who was of course the son of Thomas Bentley Sr who was the son of Tillinghast. My grandmother and her parents lived in the Bemidji, Minnesota area and were long time farmers. This has been a very interesting and fun search and I'm very proud to say that I'm of the Bentley lineage!

My name is Scott Douglas Bentley, born in Providence RI in 1981. My father is Douglas Scott Bentley, born March 1, 1956 in Rhode Island. His parents were William Bentley and Peggy Bentley (maidan name unknown at this time).
Basically, Willam had five children, William, Donna, Douglas, Susan, Andy between 1949 and 1963. However, after William's death, Susan took all the family records and won't share them with any of us. I'm trying to trace the Bentley name back to England and to see my late grandmother's history.

My Grandma was Laura Bentley, born in Wise County, Va. She married William Liburn Taylor and they had 6 children. Grandma lived to be around 100 years old. Not exactly sure of her age due to no records!! She raised her 6 children in Letcher County, Ky.My Grandfather died in 1942. She moved to Ross County Ohio when her youngest child (William Liburn, Jr.) was in high school. Grandma passed away on December 7 , 2001. She was my hero.

I descend from Mercy Bentley who married Constant Vaughan in RI. Her parents were Benjamin Bentley and Ruth Gardiner Fowler. Her first husband Job Fowler was captured by the British and died in an English prison in 1779. He had been held several years. She m. again in 1780.
