I have a census record that says that James Temby was living at Cherry Creek in 1880. He was a miner. Age 35.
One of my ancestors fits the profile, age, etc. I'd love to find out if this really was 'my' James Temby.

My husband's grandfather worked on the Nevada Northern and his grandmother owned a hamburger stand about 1940. His dad and brothers graduated from the high school. The White Pine sites have been helpful.

I was born and raised in Ely, I guess that , I was just looking in on my home town . It has been awhile, I'm really impressed, so far as to what you have in the web. You know I have a few stories. And could point out alot of things. It dosen't look like much has changed,I left Ely back in the 60's. I know almost all of White Pine County.I remember gun fights in the middle on the streets. McQueen's were in Snake Valley District in the 1910 U.S. Census. In Colorado by 1914, so don't think they were there long. Also don't know what city or town yet.

I've read all the papers on microfilm and tried to keep track of all these people - that was a few years ago. I'm really glad you have listed all the office-holders and opponents. My "characters" (from central NY) were involved in politics in Nevada (Dickinson is on your list - Senator) and I'm trying to figure out some of the dynamics, though I don't know if I ever will!

I found one hit that points out that w.b.morse's saloon had the best cigars in treasure city.
I believe this is my G-G Uncle. I have two pictures of him.
He died in 1920.

My great-grand father, Warren S. Clayton, brought his family to Hamilton during the rush. They lived in many parts of White Pine and he was justice of the peace in Cherry Creek in 1879. Later they moved to Elko County. In the 1980s, our family (Larry, Cecilia, Lori & Becky Cluff) lived in Ely and loved the people and the place.

Sorry it is inconvenient to you Nancy to go from site to site. It would be nice if everything was together. This site is registered as White Pine County Nevada Elected Officials. If I wasn't so lazy (and so tight) I could take this site and put it on the other site that I pay for. The sad fact is, I've donated a lot of time and money to get the information on the two sites plus the cemetery inscription on Internment.net and plain old don't want to do anymore! I'm sorry you dislike having to click from site to site. I don't like it either and I pay to do that on Ancestry.com!

I can understand why you call Ely home! There is something very special about White Pine County and people who have not lived here for many, many years still call it home.

My husband and I are "residents" of Ely, although he is Active Duty Military and we have not lived there for over twenty years. I find it harder and harder to find information on people running for elected offices in Ely and White Pine County. Therefore it is hard to make an informed deciesion when voting via absentee ballot. Lest you think that our voting in Ely is a joke, we have had around 16 homes in 22 years or service to our country, and it is nice to call someplace "Home." I grew up in Ely and attended East Ely Grade and graduated from White Pine High.

I went to school in Ely, Nevada, then Moved to Lane City, went to school in Lane City, Remmber the old Red Rooster Bar, Old Mike owned it, we lived in the big House up the hill and to the west of the old Bar. Knew Squaw pick like the back of my hand when living in Ely, swam alot at the old Lacka monta (sp) pool. Grand Folks lived Odgen Street in East Ely, Granddad John Grefer Died as a hard rock miner, he was a heavy timberman in the K. C. C. Mines.

For online maps of White Pine County, check out Topozone or Topowest. There are excellent atlas's available for sale with detailed topographic maps. It wouldn't be practical for me to try to provide a detailed map on this site - but email me and I'll SELL you one!

I have spent a great deal of time in Ely with the fire dept starting with Ed Spears as chief. I am retired from the Nevada State Fire Marshals office as an investigator and most recently as the acting state fire marshal. I've had some great times in Ely inspecting, investigating and instructing arson class's and the fire depts hospitality was always first class. I also hunt and fish and what a grande place. I'll be back to hunt in Nov again this year with my son in law. Now if I could only Draw a Bull Tag. Two bow cow tags but as of yet a bull. Next year!

Check our the links page on this site. Slowly but surely I'm getting more data online. http://www.interment.net/us/nv/white_pine.htm has a listing of Treasure City deaths that took two years to research as there are no death records available. "Mourners Point" refers to the deaths at Hamilton.
