TN Comments:
Samuel first appears in the tax records of Surry Co., NC from 1771 through 1777. In 1778 he applied for a land patent in Wilkes Co. NC on the S Fork of the Mitchell's river his property bordered the Surry Co. line. A Lawsuit filed by the William Ridge estate followed Samuel's movement from 1780 through 1807 or 8. Court records were found in Henry Co. VA. Then court and Tax records were found in Patrick Co. VA until 1805. Court records were found 1806 in Claiborne Co. and by 1807 he was in Campbell Co, again I suspect by division. The William Ridge estate lawsuit mentions depositions to be taken from Capt. Samuel Crutchfield in Patrick Co in 1797. Samuel Crutchfield in 1807 & 1808 in Campbell Co. Samuel disappeared from the court records of Campbell Co. in 1813. The William Ridge estate lawsuit is on file at the NC Archives.

The 1850 Russell Co. census lists Lewis Viers as a farmer from Patrick Co. His date of birth-Feb.20,1858 and date of death-June 18, 1904. The family story has him running from a feud, but I cannot find anything on the Viers family in Patrick Co. Lewis enlisted in the Confederate Army in Russell Co. in 1863. He and his wife-Mary F. Gothard are buried in the Viers cemetery in Haysi in Dickenson Co. Va.

On August 24, 1834, Joshua took out land - Lewis County Land Records, citing his previous residence in Patrick County, VA.
