I just recently found that my great grandmother was a descendant of the Yoders. Elizabeth Dixie Dice was the daughter of Elizabeth Shisler. E. Shisler was a daughter of Esther Kauffman Meyer. E.K. Meyer was a daughter of Barbara Kauffman. B. Kauffman was a daughter of Catherine Yoder. Catherine Yoder b. 1720 was a daughter of Jacob Yoder b.1695. Jacob Yoder was a son of Christen Joder b.1680.

I want to congradulate you all on such a neat site.I think what you are doing is wonderful,FAMILY honestly is the most wonderful thing ever created.The reason for my visit is very strange.In April (16th?)of 2008 at the Sugarcreek dog auction I bought a approx 2 year old pug,with one eye.Her auction tag number was 157,her DOB is in October (23),In January of 2008 she had 3 puppies,she is fawn in color.The Breeder was having a "sell OUT" But the name was David Yoder.She came with AKC registration papers,however my exhusband mistakingly threw them out.All the information above is all from memory.Can someone PLEASE help me find the right David Yoder,who was the breeder?Please contact me Via Email or in NY at 607-693-1498

My name is Matt Singer. I am Senior Writer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Curator for the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art, and--as of this fall--will be a doctoral student in American Studies at Penn State-Harrisburg, studying with Dr. Simon Bronner.
As a doctoral student, I plan to investigate the encounter between Pennsylvania Germans and Yiddish and German-speaking (Ashkenazi) Jews from Central and Eastern Europe who settled in the so-called “Pennsylvania Dutch Countryö from the eighteenth through early-twentieth century. While Pennsylvania Germans and American Jews have both been subjects of extensive scholarly research, this particular story of interaction and influence between two Germanic peoples whose disparate diasporas brought them to Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania has not (to my knowledge) been studied in depth.
I am writing for two reasons (at least): (1) I have been searching for a way to contact Professor Don Yoder, but to no avail--his voicemail message at the University of Pennsylvania indicates that the number is no longer in use; (2) I am particularly eager to find any personal memoirs, periodicals of the day, etc., that mention encounters between Pennsylvania Germans and Ashkenazi Jews (I'm assuming the most typical encounters would be between a Pennsylvania German farmers and Jewish peddlers, but I'm sure the possibilities extend far beyond that particular scenario).
My own Ashkenazic Jewish fanily settled in Pennsylvania German towns and cities such as Lancaster, Chambersburg (Franklin County), and Middletown (Dauphin County) between 1885 and 1890 and has married into families of Pennsylvania German and other German descent in the generations since, so this topic holds personal as well as academic/professional interest for me.

My name is Del Routh and I may have some information of interest about your family genealogy. I am a Civil War buff and love to read and go to battlefields, doing limited research. Anyway I was at Spotsylvania battlefield and found a relative of mine named 1Lt. Alexander Routh buried in the Confederate cemetery there. I noticed a grave marked there also with the following names; Yoder, A. M. and Yoder, Robert. I have a book dated 1911, The Catawba Soldier OF THE Civil War, by George W. Hahn. In this book it states that these two were members of the 23rd, NC and both were killed at Spotsylvania court house, and are buried in the same grave? Date of death May 10th, 1864. I was looking at the webb site for more information on my relative and came across your site. If you would like a copy of this page from my book, I will send you one, and a picture of the grave site when I go back up there in the near future. I live near wil, NC.

This is my first look at this website. Based on the information i found here, my great grandfather, Valentine C. Yoder of Newbury TWP, LaGrange County, IN (YR234433) died in 1890. My grandfather, Tobias V. Yoder of Eden Township, LaGrange County, IN (YR2344334) is listed in several Census'. My Father, Tobias "Amzie" Yoder (YR2344339) is listed in the 1920 census as 6 yrs old. I sincerely appreciate all the work everyone has put into this web site. I have enjoyed finding "my past" in my later years. I especially enjoyed YNL Issue #50 as it has the first picture I've ever seen of great grandfather Eli Yoder (YA245). His date of death was 1935, not 1955. I have pictures of his gravestone (Leo Cemetery) with dates for him and wife Elizabeth. Eli's brothers in the picture, Joseph J.(YA244) and Christian (YA248) are burried a few miles away in the Yaggy Cemetery outside of Grabill, IN. Does Lavon Yoder know of anymore pictures? Would love to hear from those who may have pictures / knowledge of Joseph (YA24) line.

I have three children 9, 11 & 13 yrs. old. They have begun asking me questions about our heritage and I remember my parents receiving a copy of the Yoder News in the early 80's which contained information about the Yoder heritage. Today I searched the internet to find that this newsletter is still published and looking at the website has been taken to a whole new level with DNA tracing back to 16th and 17th centuries. I was wondering if you were kin to or if you knew Owen and Erma Yoder in Pratts VA. They have 5 or 6 children (grown) and they home schooled their children using the Advanced Training Inst. I think Brother Owen has been an elder in the Mennonite churches and also server as an elder with ATI.
They also owned Yoders Family Market in the Pratts area.
They are a sweet couple, I met them in Knoxville TN at an ATI confrence. I wrote them several times but have lost contact after our home burned. I would like to know (if you know them) how they are doing. How are their children?

I was born Michael Paul Yoder at Booth Memorial Hospital in Cleveland Ohio to Louella Yoder and an unlisted father. I met her and had several visits with her around 15 years ago. I discontinued contact with her at her request. She told me she was convinced that I had been in contact with my father and that seemed to frighten her. I also did not want to upset my adoptive parents. They have always refused to discuss anything about my adoption with me since I discovered it at about 7 years of age. My adoptive parents have since passed away and I now feel free to do more research on my Yoder line, but I do not want to distress Louella again. I know that she was 20 when she had me in 1951. She has a Brother Roy who I believe still lives in Sugarcreek Oh. I don't know of any sisters but she had at least one brother since I learned that one of her brothers was going to go out after my father, but his father wouldn't let him. I didn't want to post this on the mail list because I seemed to have stirred up problems meeting Louella and I don't want to cause problems with her or her family. Do you know of someone I could write to privately who might be able to help me learn more. It seems to me like my adoption was a rather unothodox procedure and I am a bit hesitant to make it public. I'm a decendent of Holmes County Yoders. I assume we go back to a Christian J Yoder who immagrated to the US and on to Summerset PA before moving on to Holmes County.
In 2001 we were in Europe for about 2 weeks, spent a day in Steffisburg, but I could not find any Yoders anywhere. Language barrier and time were a factor. I should have done more research before leaving for the trip.

Hi! I was searching on Yahoo for Alva/Elva Snyder in Penna., and this site was the only web result that I got. I started to research my father's family,a couple of months ago. My father Joseph William Snyder and his family lived most of their lives in the Bradford, McKean County area. But some did move around to other areas. All the Snyders that you have in this YODER Family History,have the same names as the Snyders from the Bradford area. I'm pretty sure that we do connect to this tree. I've just started to link the families together. I would be very interested in finding any info that you may have on the Snyders, as I do believe these are all related to my family. Some of the surnames im our family are, McIntyre, Waker, Fritz, Crisman, Smith, Young, Batterson, Russel and many more. My Grandfather was an oil producer & worked on the railroad. The family lived on the oil lease for many years. I remember going there for visits, when I was as young as five years old. I was born in Warren,Pa. My parents spilt and I spend over five years in ,The Children's Home,in Sheffield,Pa. Then we, my two brothers and sisters jioned my mother in New York, and I've lived here since. Hello. I have traced my family roots back to Christian Yoder YR12. I find this very interesting. My father is a Yoder and was raised in Belleville, PA. I lucked out and met an amishman probably 10 years ago who gave me alot of information. I have gathered most of mine from a book called "Amish & Amish Mennonite Geneologies".
