Earliest Known Ancestor Thomas French
They were from 1737 New Hampshire
Comments:
I am seeing help with the sons of Thomas French, Adam C and Edwin J, they were living in San Patricio in 1910 census, I think Adam Clark French died there 27 Oct 1945, his sisters lived in Rapid City SD, where I am, they never married and were artists of note in our community, Grace French died in 1942 and had a brother in TX and a niece in OK, so I want to know who which brother married and what became of the daughter, OH!, Adam and Edwin were twins born in 1861 in New Hampshire, Edwin was a carpenter, and Adam was a "Homeopathid Dr". A showing for the paintings of Grace and Abbie French is going to be held in Rapid City this year, and we are collecting biographical material on them. The father Thomas died in NH, the mother Sarah died and is buried here in Rapid City, the boys lived here from 1885 to 1891, Edwin homesteaded in 1886. About all I know.

OBIT LOOKUP or COUNTY COURTHOUSE VISIT IN SINTON, TX:
Is there a local volunteer who can help me with an obituary lookup or probate county courthouse visit in Sinton?

I'm trying to find an obituary notice for a MR. DAN G. SHIELDS JR. who DIED May 28, 1975 and who was born August 24, 1918. I would like to get a printed copy of the obit if it is available. I'm primarily looking for currently surviving members of his family or his last known street address.

If an obit is not available, if you could visit the local probate court to see if his last will and testament is on file, that would also help. I would need a copy of his will, plus any page showing name and address of his estate executor, plus any page showing name and address of his beneficiaries. All expenses will be reimbursed.

Thanks so much for any assistance granted.

SINCERELY,

KEITH NORTHINGTON, Genealogical Researcher

Earliest Known Ancestor Henry Stirk
They were from ca.1712, Thornton-by-Bradford, Yorkshire, England
Comments:
A sixth generation decendant of Henry Stirk, William and wife Emma (Tomlinson) had two sons in England, James and Ernest. Emigrated to Ohio, Iowa, then son James moved to Aransas Pass. 1920 census shows James, wife Eva, son Charles W., daughter Mildred B. 1930 census shows James (Cames) wife Ellison E. (Eva) and Charles; no Mildred. Believe that Charles served in US Navy, possibly never married. Any idea what happened to Mildred - cannot find a marriage or death record. No further trace of the family found so far. Family legend mentions possibility of two sons William and Boyd, but no confirmation found. Photo existed of US sailor "With Aunt Hazel Cronan" - Hazel died in San Francisco, had a son, William Dennis Cronan. William Sr. was my great-grandfather Thomas's older brother. William & Emma had seven children, James Thomas, Ernest, Mabel, Ruby, Charles, Vera, Hazel. Traced James, Ernest, Ruby & Hazel, missing Charles, Vera & Mabel. Any leads on Mildred or other decendants much appreciated.

Earliest Known Ancestor Daniel Robert Moore
They were from 1845-Greene Co., Tn
Comments:
I am seaching for any descendant of Horace Victor Moore, born July 13, 1869 in Del Rio, Cocke Co., Tn. and died Nov. 7, 1958 in Sinton, San Patricio County, Tx. His father was Daniel Robert Moore, b. Apr. 22, 1845 in Greene Co., Tn. Horace Victor married Martha Ann "Josephine" Bible of Del Rio, Cocke Co., Tn. on June 10, 1891 in Burnet Co., Tx. Horace V. and Josie's children were: Robert Moore, Tom Ed Moore, Glen Victor Moore, Gina Ellen Moore and Ora Moore.

Daniel Robert Moore moved his family from Tn. to Burnet Co., Tx. about 1873, which coincides with the time my gr grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Moore, moved his family to Burnet Co. The two Moore families bought land in Burnet Co. in close proximity to each other. Thereafter, Daniel Robert Moore moved to Victoria, Texas, then on to Beeville, and I believe he is buried in a San Patricio Co. cemetery. I believe that Horace Victor Moore lived and died in Taft, Tx. and is also buried in San Patrico Co.

My cousin and I have been looking for years for the ancestors of Thomas Jefferson Moore, but our search has not brought forth any positive information to date. We believe there is a family connection between Daniel Robert and Thomas Jefferson Moore and would really appreciate hearing from anyone related to Daniel Robert/Horace Victor Moore.

Thanks so much in advance. Nona Moore Hoyer of San Antonio, Texas but born and raised in Marble Falls, Burnet County, Texas

I have a comment and a little query. The comment is that this is nicely mounted genealogical site. I have been doing on line research on both sides of my family for about 2 yrs. now & have been to many sites.
I am one of the GGGGrandsons of William Marshall Means. I have read the excellent material supplied to The Handbook Of Texas Online by Mr. Keith Guthrie and even spoke to Mr. Guthrie on the phone once, back in 1997, about Meansville. I was wondering if there are any copies of his book on the History of San Patricio County still available. Keep up the good work.

Do you happen to know your grandfather Howard's parents names? In my San Patricio County book, the only Howard I came across was an Elard R. Howard. He was the first postmaster in St. Paul (just north of Sinton). Which part of San Patricio County, was your family from?

Crystal,

When I started doing my genealogy research, I started doing exactly what you are already doing. Go to county websites, post a query....all counties that you know your family lived in. It's free and you will be amazed how many responses you will get. If the county has "look-ups" (volunteers who will look up info for you in census records or other county records), ask them for help. They are awesome and again, they are free. Visit cemeteries. You can get a lot of info from those headstones (birth dates, death dates, marriage date, legal names and usually the correct spelling). Again, free. I also sent out letters to people with the same last name asking for help. I received phone calls and letters from many people that way. Just dig for the info...it's out there. If I can help you, just email me at cjfrdh@aol.com

Born about SALE, ADAMS, NELSON, ROUSE, WOLF
Comments:
Can any one help me get a copy of an obituary for Jesse N. Nelson b. about 1857 died 8 Aug 1937 and his wife Mary Elizabeth Adams Nelson b. 1861 who died perhaps in 1945. This couple was born in AR and came to TX when they were a little older.

I do not know where in the county they are buried.

They moved to the county from AR in about 1905-1909 along with the Rouse, Adams, Sale family members.

I believe John Quincy Adams with wife Mary E. Sowell Adams living in nearby Lagrato was a brother to Mary Elizabeth Adams Nelson. I know that Mrs. Adams died there in 1921 and there is a head stone for she and her husband but no death date is on the stone for the husband. I know that he was alive around Mathis when he was 86 in the early 40s. I do NOT know where or when he died but he was living with a daughter, Edna May Beall wife of Marcellus Ti Beall.

If you can find census records for years 1900, 1910, 1920, or 1930 for any of these people, I would also appreciate that.

Respectfully, Dorothy Boynton dbton@yahoo.com

My grandmother, Ethel Catherine McGloin was born on February 9. 1894. She married Guy E.(Edward)Teal. Not sure of the wedding date at this time. I have it somewhere. I want to know the name of her birth mother. I was told her mother died when she was a toddler. Her dad remarried, the stepmother did not want her. My questions are:

1.) What was her mother's name?
2.) What did she die of?
3.) Who was the stepmother and where was she from?
4.) Where would I find other McGloin relatives?

There is a book titled, "The Forgotten Colony" by Rachel Bluntzer Hebert. This has some information about Chipita. Not sure where you live, but this has a lot of info about the Irish families & history of Old San Patricio. I have heard the story of Chipita aal my life and my parents used to take us old to where she was believed to be hanged hoping to see something. We never did, but it was always a lot of fun. We were just out there yesterday for the Rattlesnake Races. If you need any info, don't hesitate to ask me.

Good Luck.

Earliest Known Ancestor Millard F. Blissit
They were from Mississippi
Born about 1857
Comments:
My family lived in Nueces County, Victoria County, and San Patricio County from Circa 1910 to the present time. Millard brought his family, apparently in the company of brothers and cousins, from Tishomingo, Mississippi circa 1900 to the area around Itasca, Hill County, Texas. After that Millard traveled to Nueces County, Victoria County, and San Patricio County. Some of the Blissit clan remained in the Hill County area rather than travel with Millard and his family. Research is not complete.

Earliest Known Ancestor William "Willie" Henry Cluiss
They were from Sinton, Texas
Comments:
I would be interested in any information regarding The Cluiss Cafe. It was located on Rachal Street, across from Moore's Pharmacy. It was in operated in the mid to late 1920's. My guesses are that it opened in 1925 or 1926 and operated for a few years. My grandfather, Walker Cluiss, washed dishes there as a young child and earned the nickname, Pearl Diver or P.D.
Anyone have stories or any other information???

Married in 1845 to Miss Juanita Benevides (Capt.Placido Benevides Family) Married in Victoria,TX in ST.Marys Church and settled in Goliad. Started a family (seven daughters and two sons). Dec.31st.(New Years Eve)1852, Matagorda Lighthouse is lit by Capt. James Cummings its first lighthouse keeper. It is the first lighthouse to be lit on Texas coast.
Capt. James was also the first Postmaster 1860 in Cummingsvile (named after him). Cumminmgsville was just outside of Goliad going to Beeville.

Capt. James was my GGGGrandfather (mothers side) and I am proud of him.
I have found lots of their descendants and know my linage up to him. However, I don't know his burial site. He died at age 72 (10-12-1882 as noted in Sarita's bible / daughter)

I would like to hear from anyone that may help me find Capt. James and Juanita grave site.

Respectfully yours,

Earliest Known Ancestor Crecencio Rodriguez
They were from Atascosa County Tx
Born about 1815
Comments:
In census from 1850 thru 1980 in Atascosa County, somehow the Rodriguez family ended up in San Patricio County in at least the years from 1895 to present, but I don't know from what generation. My great grandmother (Maria de) Jesus Rodriguez(1870-1925)was the daughter of Crecencio by his 2nd wife Rosaria. Jesusa married Eugenio Nava(1860-1951) in Rockport in 1907 but started having children together in 1896 in the area(although cannot find in any records of births nor census before 1910). Eugenio had a brother Eligio Nava (1858-?) found in the 1920 census of San Patricio County but cannot find where he is buried or any relatives or for how long he lived there. If you run across these names, please earmark for me.
