You have done an amazing job with the information available.
My mother & father were both born and raised around New Brockton. My paternal g-grandparents, Joseph S. & Emma F. Wooten owned a general store, gristmill etc. Joseph deeded land for the Assembly of God Church at Wooten's Chapel. Somewhere near the church there is a small cemetery where I think Joseph & Emma are buried.

Recognizing you are limited to what people are willing to contribute to your site, this site does not yet provide anything useful on early settlers of Coffee Co., AL, such as census records in 1840. 1850, 1860, early marriages, etc. Nor does it provide a link for reviewing images to those census records. (an example can be found on Fayette Co., AL's US Gen web site. I don't know how they did this).
This Coffee County site appears to be a work in progress at the current time. Hopefully, you will eventually have those contributions you need to make this site more viable.
I did enjoyed viewing the old pictures, etc. The person who contributed them did a wonderful job.
In the meantime, along with your helpful information on where records can be located, I recommend you add the beginning dates of those records that are available and information on whether they are intact from the beginning of settlement; or, if early records were destroyed and the available records are limited to a certain starting date.
Sometimes only part of records were destroyed. For example, early marriage records might have been destroyed but deed transfers, etc. were not.
Good luck with the growth of your site. If I were younger I would go to Coffee County and obtain helpful information for you at the Court House. If I come across anything of interest to you for your site, I will try to remember to provide it to you.

Phyllis, I have recently found the old Simmons Cemetery in the woods off Hwy 127 in Coffee County. It is on private property but very accessible with permission. The headstones are in bad shape, but readable. They date back to the 1850's. There are 2 adult graves: Thomas Washington Simmons and Emaline (Hurst) Simmons. There are 3 small graves: Sara Ann Simmons, Nancy Ann Simmons, and Mary Ann Simmons, all 3 having died within about 2 years of birth. Do you know of someone or group who would be able to go in there and clean up the headstones? We live in Atlanta and seldom get to this part of Alabama.

Hello, Tubbs Family at tubbsreunion@gmail.com, Thank you for the suggestion, but there is already a surname researchers webpage on the Coffee County ALGenWeb Project website. It is located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~alcoffee/researchers.html
On the main page of the CCAP website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~alcoffee just scroll down the page to the Information Links list, highlight Researchers link, click on Coffee County, Alabama Researchers and view the surnames and reseachers. You can then find the surname you seek (if it is posted already) and click on the researchers name to contact them via email. This is the same way that Afrigeneas does it but just a different format for getting there.
Thank you again.

When I put the mouse on cemeteries for example only some of them show and I can not get a complete list. It would help people like myself, with poor eyesight, if you could make it where we just click on what we want to open and it.

I Am Grateful There Was You
The world is moving faster now,
We're on a changing course.
But you have helped me deal with life,
You've been a stable force.
When I have had to follow
New directions, you were there.
When the world was hard on me,
You always seemed to care.
When nothing held together
Or made a bit of sense,
You have always helped restore,
My inner confidence.
Everyone needs someone
Who's reliable and true.
Through the moments I've endured,
I'm grateful there was you
Have A Great Day
Thank you for being my friend
Only for you my Other Sis, just you. Have always felt God was working hard for me because He knew what was ahead of me and He said "Ah, there is one of my angels below who will love and tend the "broken one's" heart because my angel's heart is so pure. He sent you to me because the need was so great and there was only you out of all the rest that He could trust. I send this to you with all my love and devotion, forever. I always send love to Mama Dimp when it goes to my loved ones too. God Bless all our loved ones who have gone before.....their Christmas will be spent with "the reason for the season" our Beloved Saviour.
Your loving and devoted Sister

Pleas Help. I have visited Coffee Co. several times in the last few months, and have found no useful info. My family is buried in Old Tabernacle Cemetery on I think Hwy 51 and there is no info on them or the cemetery. Not even listed on this website. My great great grandfather was Richard Homer Griswold and is buried in this cemetery with his wife Susan Victoria Wilkes, but his headstone says Samuel Homer Griswold. This was a mistake made by Richard's daughter when changing the headstones. Her brother is Samuel Homer and her dad is Richard Homer. Regardless of the headstone. I can find nothing about him in the courthouse, Alabama Health and Vital Statistics, websites, etc. My family is from Coffee Co, but Richard moved for a short while to Dale Co. He is shown there in the 1920 census, and he died in 1926 where he is buried back in Coffee Co. I have exausted my possibilities. Can you help? or guide me to who can in the area?
Thank you so much
Michael Griswold

I have been trying to get some information about my father, <name removed>. He lives/lived in <town removed> for many years now. I haven’t heard anything about him or from him in a long time. I don’t even know if he is alive anymore. I tried very hard to find anything I could on the web listings for <town removed>, Coffee County, but haven’t had any success. Is there anyway you could help me with this or set me in the right direction? I’m very anxious to find out if he is even still alive. He had moved and has no phone as far as I know. Anything you could help me with will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
<name removed>

I wrote this person back that I was making attempts to find her father for her; I asked for photographs to post on the CC Lost and Found page. I looked in the phone book, but there were no families by the surname she was seeking. I called the police department. The young dispatcher told me to call back the following day for another police officer was from the town and had been there all of their life. I emailed this person who was seeking their father about what I had done thusfar. This is the reply I received.

Phyllis,
You just don’t know what this means to me. I’m sitting here now crying over the fact that there are some real caring people out there who are willing to go out of their way to help strangers. His middle name is <name removed>. He was born <date removed> 1922. I do have a couple of pictures, but I have to bring them in to work tomorrow, get them scanned and I will be glad to send it to you if that will help. I know <town removed> is a small town. It would mean so much to my mother if I could find out anything on him. My mother is 73 and in very very poor health. She asks about him all the time, and I just don’t know what to tell her anymore. He once owned a house up on the hill right across from the <business removed>. He sold it to a doctor. Then he moved <location removed> but from there, I don’t know what happened to him.
God bless you for all you’re doing and anything you can do. Even if this comes up negative, you just don’t know how much I appreciate you and what you’re doing. Thank you and have a great New Year. I’ll see about getting that picture for you. Thank you for the phone number of the police department, I didn’t even have that.
God Bless and Thanks

P.S., If for any reason you might need it, my home phone number is: <number removed>, <number removed> work.

I searched and located her father in another town in a nursing home. I personally called her to let her know that he had been located and is alive.

Phyllis,
Now I truly do believe in angels from above and you’re one of them. I’m sorry we weren’t able to make it down there this weekend, but I’ve been in bed with the flu for the past several days now, and my mother has just gotten out of the hospital. I knew she wouldn’t be able to make the trip so soon, but I will certainly give you a call when we do start down there, because I really want to meet you and personally thank you. I honestly didn’t think he was even alive anymore and this has certainly made for a great new year for us. I did talk to him on the phone that night, and he sounded great. At first he didn’t know who I was, he thought I was his sister, but when I told him who I was, he was very happy. We only talked for a couple of minutes, but he does sound good and now I’m very excited to go see him. This is going to be a great reunion. Thank you so very very much for what you did for me. I know God was looking out for me when He sent you my way and I will always be thankful for that.
Hope to see you very shortly. I’ll give you a call and let you know when we’re coming. Thank you again.

I am not writing this and posting it here as a pat on the back. I merely want to keep these emails to retain this feeling. I might delete it from my email box since I answer and handle so much email. I also want to set an example and I wish folks to see what a little effort on one person's part can do for another. Helping to reunite this family rewarded me with a wonderful, whole feeling in my heart. This is something that no amount of money on earth could ever purchase. I thank God for this feeling.

Nice site, but I was hoping to find a Death Index, or Mortality Schedule both of which most Counties in Alabama have.
Do you know where I can get death info for Coffee County? I'm interested in the cause of death, making note of possible epidemics, outbreaks, and the like.
Sincerely,
Aubrey Davis

You've done a great job with this site! I'm building a site for Comanche County, Kansas, and can appreciate how much effort has gone into assembling this research resource for Coffee County, Alabama.
One suggestion I have is giving viewers the option of hearing a midi file of "Stars Fell On Alabama" while they view your site. If you'd like, I can give you an example of the html code.
Best regards,
