They came to Topeka Kansas and then met in Sterling, Colorado and were married. I would like more info before them in the Vogel of which I know very little. Is anyone working on these towns that you know of? I appreciate any info that you have? Thanks so much and good luck on your search also.

Hello,
It seems we may have common relatives. My grandmother, Margaret Stieb, was born in Goebel, Russia. I don't have the exact birth date, but it's probably in the 1880s. She married Peter Merkel (also from Goebel). They emmigrated to the United States before World War I. They first settled in Topeka, Kansas, where my grandfather worked for the railroad. The family moved to Chicago after the war. My grandparents had ten children. Most of my Merkel aunts and uncles are dead, but my father and one aunt are alive. They still live in the Chicago area, as do most of my many cousins.
