John Caldwell was my 2nd great grandmother (Sarah Elizabeth Downs Pierce) attorney in 1862. She filed for her husband Civil War Pension 9/5/1862 in Marion County, Alabama. I was wondering how I could find out if John Caldwell records are still around. I would appreciate any information you might have.
Thank you for your time.

Also, If anyone has any information on Rebecca A. Crawford please email me! Beca was half Native American. She was adopted by white people. Beca was married to David "Little Dave" Gilbert. She was born in 1831 and died July 26, 1913 (buried in Goldmine Cemetary). She was the mother of James Jesse Gilbert. If anyone has any pictures of her that they could put online or any information about her please email me!
Also to the person who was asking about Wheeler Gilbert's parents: Wheeler was the younger brother of my great-grandmother Rhoda Gilbert. Their parents were James Jesse Gilbert (1851-1931) and Mary Carylon Lambert (1858 - 1948 born in Tuscaloosa). Grandparents were David "Little Dave" Gilbert and Rebecca A. "Beca" Crawford and William Lambert and Martha Ramsey. My grandmother always told us that the Lamberts were gospel singers or participated in singing schools. They were church of Christ. Beca Gilbert lived with Rhoda Gilbert and Allie Bennie Cochran until her death in 1913 (when my grandmother was 5 yrs old). Unfortunately my grandmother died in 2006 before I began researching. There are so many things that I wish I would have known to ask her. That is all I know about James Jesse and Mary Carylon Gilbert currently, but if I learn anything else I'll post it.

My grandmother was Inez Cochran Alexander. She was the daughter of Rhoda Gilbert and Allie Bennie Cochran and the grandaughter of James Jesse Gilbert and Mary Carylon Lambert. I've really enjoyed the pictures on this site. My grandmother left behind a lot of old pictures, and I plan to put submit them to this site soon. My mother, cousin, and I traveled to Brilliant a couple of years ago. We visited Goldmine Cemetary and my grandmother's first cousin, Quinton Addison. That was when I became intrested in researching my grandmother's old stomping grounds. Keep up the good work, the information on this site is fascinating!

I'm looking for info on Sarah Jane Robbins b SC or GA around 1820 who married Dennis C Cantrell in Rabun, GA in 1842 and had 9 kids. They both died in Winston Co. but I'm pretty sure they had relatives in the surrounding area. She was probably Indian, possibly with some mulatto ancestry. She died in 1902. Her mother may have been from GA or GA via SC and her father was from SC.

What I am looking for is information, like everyone else.
I am pretty much stonewalled.
The research is pretty easy when there are census to back up your investigation, but it is the before. We have to depend on those that can do look-ups or those that have already been where you are at now..
I am looking for the following information or anything that could lead me in the right direction.
Wm Shirley Weeks (grandfather got that information)(Beaverton, Guinn, Hamilton) s/o John Leonard Weeks (pretty much have that information)(Winfield, Guin) s/o John Weeks(this is where it starts getting fuzzy, Married Anne Cranford/Crawford)1789 Putman Co. Ga, Died abt 1839) Samuel J. Weeks(this is the brickwall. Who was his father and mother..I know from research it wasn't Wm Weeks and Susan Heaton from Quaker Records of marriages, births and deaths, NO Samuel, I know Samuel married Anne Jackson in Ga..found the marriage, found his will with his kids and other marriages..but WHO WAS HIS FATHER..I know he was born in Perquimans Co., NC...but that is about it..there are speculations, but not answers..) If you can and would be willing to share..there are alot of people out there slamming into the same brick wall..
Thanks bunches

I am also looking for information on the Hamilton family and the Terrell family. My husband's great-grandmother was Icey Hamilton Ford and was married to William Basil Ford, Sr. They owned the Ford Mill and lived in the house that is next to the mill. Icey died in that house. Information on these families and the history of the county would be very much appreciated. We have a dinner bell that came from the Terrell plantation in Marion County, Al. It has been passed down in the family. We also have a pen and ink drawing of a pioneer plantation that has been passed down in the family. I would like to find this farm or plantation and know whether or not it is connected to the Hamilton/Terrell/Ford family. it was very skillfully done in detail.

I have been looking for anything to do with the Fortner family. My grandfather is Zebulon Thomas Fortner and he was born in Phil Campbell, AL. on Fed. 1, 1893. Which is suppose to be in Marion Co. I can't seem to find anything on him or his family. His father was Marshall Fortner and his mothers name was Fannie. Have you ever heard of any Fortners in that area? His brothers and sisters were James William, Mary Elizabeth were suppose to be born there too. Is there somewhere else that I can look? Thanks for any help that you can give me.

This "Mozley" family was originally from England, & came to VA in the early 1700s. The AL immigrant was A.M. Mozley who in the early 1820s brought his family from Bedford County, TN to Guin in Marion County. Pikeville is another site of Marion reference for this family. My particular interest is in learning whatever happened to Mahala Mozley, my 2XGGM. Her four sons left AL, all eventually winding up in Indian Territory. Presuming she survived, the single daughter, Sarah C. Mozley, probably married during the early 1870s, & I suspect that mother Mahala thereafter moved along with Sarah & family. I have constructed a book about the rest of the family, the missing links to which remain mother Mahala & daughter Sarah. Mahala's husband, Caleb Mozley, was a Confederate soldier, killed in GA during the Civil War. If anyone 'out there' knows how I might best locate marriage records of the era immediately following the Civil War, in Marion or surrounding counties of AL, such input would be most welcome. Hello,
I am searching for a Marion County relative and I am at a brick wall.
I am looking for information on Elizabeth Fowler (b. 6 June 1812 in Georgia) who married a Woods in the early 1800's.
My search has sorta ended at that point. I do know that she had her first son, Stephen Woods B. 1833, in Marion County, Alabama.
In 1834, she had her second son, Jeremiah Woods, in Choctaw County, Mississippi.
If you have any information on her, the name of her husband, mother and father, siblings, I would dearly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Charmane Joiner
