Quelle trouvaille.

According to the 1861 Census William and Thomas Crozier lived in Grand Falls. However their names were not found in the 1851 census which leads me to believe that they arrived in Grand Falls between 1851 and 1861. Their names do not appear in the 1971 Census. So far I have not been able to trace either one of them. I also don't know if they were related - father/ son possibly?

Also, my grandfather, Joseph Ambrose McCluskey is listed with an incorrect birth date in the 1901 census. He was born on Jan.18, 1901, not 1891. His age in the census is listed correctly as 1 month. It is obviously an error by the census taker as I know different and granddad would have been listed earlier in the list if he had been born earlier.

Items de recherche non-résolusOrigins of James William Howard Comments:
I am searching for information regarding my great-grandparents James William Howard and Evelyn (Giberson) Howard of Grand Falls and Aroostook Junction, Victoria County, New Brunswick, and their ancestors.
James William Howard attested that he was born on January 17, 1872 at Grand Falls, New Brunswick. I am not sure of his parents' names. He was probably the son of Frederick and Ruth Howard of Grand Falls, New Brunswick, which is only an educated guess, based upon 1881 and 1901 Census records. I do know that he had three sisters, one of whom was "Molly" (Howard) Coffin who lived at Fort Kent, Maine, and another, "Lil" Howard, who lived in Florida.
The 1881 Census records indicate that Frederick Howard (age 40) was a laborer and a Methodist, that he and his wife Ruth (age 38 and an Epicopalian) had two sons, George (age 13) and James (age 11), and three daughters, Allise (age 8), Mary (age 7) and Lilley (age 4), all Episcopalians. All were listed as being born in New Brunswick. Frederick gave his ancestry as English, Ruth as Irish. The 1901 Census indicates that Frederick (age 60 and a Methodist) was by then a hotel keeper, that Ruth (not listed in the household) was probably dead, and that only daughters "Mamie" (age 26 and an Episcopalian) and "Lily" (age 24 and a Presbyterian) still lived at home. In 1901, he gave their ancestry as Irish.
Evelyn Giberson was born on April 1, 1880 at Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick. She was the child of Whitfield Giberson and Almeda White. James William Howard and Evelyn Giberson married on April 25, 1899.
In 1900, James William Howard was working as the station agent and hotel manager for the CP railroad at Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick. James William Howard served in the Canadian Army during World War I. He enlisted from Campbellton, New Brunswick on January 20, 1916. On his enlistment papers, he was described as being as resident of Campbellton, New Brunswick, married to Evelyn Howard, employed as a telegraph operator, as belonging to the Active Militia, as being 5'-6&1/2" in height, of light complexion, with blue eyes and brown hair, and as being a Presbyterian. After he returned from military service, he worked as an immigration officer, stationed at the Aroostook Junction train station. James William Howard was called "William" or "Bill" by family members.
James and Evelyn Howard's first child was Donald Whitfield Howard (my grandfather), who was born on January 19, 1900 at Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick. At age 14, he ran away from home (Campbellton, New Brunswick) and enlisted in the Canadian Army. On his enlistment papers, dated November 10, 1914, he lied about his age, stating that he was born on January 19, 1886. The enlistment officer was not completely fooled about Donald's age and wrote on the back of the form that his apparent age was 18. Donald listed his next of kin as Mrs. Eva Howard of Campbellton, New Brunswick. He was described as being a member of the 73rd regiment of the Active Militia, as being 5'-6" in height, of light complexion, with gray eyes and light brown hair, and as being a Presbyterian. He served for two years in Europe during World War I before he was tracked down (probably by his father) and sent home because he was still under-age. At some point, he joined the US Army, served again in Europe during the later part of WWI, and became a naturalized US citizen because of his military service. Donald Whitfield Howard married Pauline Mildred Johnston (my grandmother) of Perth Andover, New Brunswick around 1927. Their only child was Dawn-Marie Howard (my mother), who was born on May 28, 1928 at Grand Falls, New Brunswick. Donald Whitfield Howard died of consumption shortly after the birth of his daughter, who was then sent to live with her grandparents James and Evelyn Howard at Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick. The widow Pauline (Johnston) Howard later married Dr. Edward "Ted" Cragg, a dental surgeon, and relocated to Dalhousie.
James and Evelyn Howard had four other children:
Marion Louise Howard was born on January 29, 1901 at Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick. She later settled in New York and worked as a private duty nurse. After World War II, she married Captain Frank Washington Fitzgerald III. They had no children.
Ralph Olaf Howard was born on July 7, 1902 at Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick. He attended St. Francis Xavier University and studied pharmacology. He was a college friend of Edward Cragg, who would later marry his brother Donald's widow. Ralph Howard settled in New York, where he owned a chain of drugstores and the Clinton House hotel and theater in New Jersey. He later became a senior executive of the McKesson Drug Company and lived on Long Island. He had one daughter.
Marguerite Howard was the fourth child. She studied at the Boston Conservatory of Music. She was a noted opera singer and radio performer in the New York area. She married, but never had children.
Ethel "Babe" Howard was the youngest child, born in 1911. Her married name was Wilson, and she lived in Maine. She had a daughter, Ruth Wilson (Mrs. Lenny Barnes), who lives in California.
