Andrew and Obedience (my great grandparents)are listed on the 1920 census in Hudson, Newton Co Arkansas. Listed as children in this census is Sterling Noel (my grandfather)and also an older son Corby F. Hunter. Corby does not show up on the next census taken. No one in our family was aware of a child named Corby. I am trying to find some record of him. I am guessing he died at a young age as my Grandfather (deceased) and my great uncle (currently living) do not claim to know about him. I did find a listing of a Cordy Hunter born 1914 and deceased 1920, which could fit dates for Corby listed in the 1920 census. Elizabeth “Mary Janeö McPhearson born 5 Dec 1854 in Jefferson and died 13 Feb 1937. She married Thomas Jefferson Houston 5 Sept 1870 in Clarksville, Arkansas.
Her parents were William Franklin McPherson born 27 July 1832 in Jackson, Alabama and died 29 Sept 1851 in Newton County. Her mother was Martha Persilla Boen born 7 Dec 1831 in Tennessee and died 7 March 1910 in Magazine, Arkansas. I have no information on either of their parents.

Hello!
I am looking for information on a James Lee. I am not positive, but I belive his wife's maiden name is Watson. I have found an 1850 Census from Perry, Arkansas with Elizabeth and the following children listed, Jemima Lee, 12, George W. Lee, 10, Marth Lee, 8, Nancy Lee, 6 and Jasper Lee, 1. There is also a Jemima Watson age 50 listed. Seeing as the oldest child listed is named Jemima, I assume it's Elizabeth's mother. Assumtions don’t go too far, but I thought I would mention it just incase!
I am interested in finding the parents/family of Samuel Lee born around 1856-1858. My mother had notes that she had written down James and Elizabeth as the names of his parents, but she knows no more than that. From what I have found from an 1860 Census of Union, Newton Cty, and the 1870 Census of Jefferson, Newton Cty, Arkansas, it appears James and Elizabeth Lee are his parents.
My cousin, Jackie Cochran, wrote to you about Samuel back in 2000, I believe, and you gave us quiet a bit of good information which is still up on the website. He married Lucia Ann Thomas, daughter of Andrew Jackson Thomas and Martha "Patsey" Spivey.
Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated and if you need any additonal information I will be more than happy to give it to you, if I have it!

In the 1870 Federal Census his name is spelled Eroin, Grouine which is incorrect and is listed with his 3 children: John-Clarinda, George and Dorcas-Mary and is married to Tennessee at this time.
Mary was the mother of George W. Ewing and Dorcas Adeline Ewing, was born according to family legend on the Indian reservation an location of burial is unknown at this time, Dorcas went to live there after the marriage of Gwin to Tennessee around the age of 9 or 10. Other researchers on Ancestry.com state that John JONES died in 1866 in Newton County, AR. I can prove the following elements of this family:
JOHN JONES was born Abt. 1788 in Tennessee, and died between 1860-1870. He married (1) UNKNOWN ---- who died before 1830 in Alabama. He married (2) MARY B. GAINES 05 Dec 1831 in Madison County, Alabama, daughter of HENRY GAINES and MARTHA WHITE. She was born Abt. 1796 in Elbert County, Georgia and died Bet. 1860 - 1870. John and Mary JONES were enumerated in Marion County, AR in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. In 1840, they were in Jackson County, AL. in 1830, John shows as a widower with children in Madison County, AL, and Mary RICH is a widow with children in Madison County, AL.
According to other researchers, John and Mary (Gaines) had the following children, but I know that Mary is not the mother, because she was married to James RICH at the time, and she was John's second wife.

Lawrence Rafferty was my gggrandfather, who was living in Pope County on the 1900 census. James and Mary E. were supposedly married in Newton County in October 1883. They had three children: Soula Almeda Dec 1883, Amos Burton May 1887, and Cordia LeeRoy Sep 1890. They were purported to live in the area of Dry Fork, which I know is now in Carroll County...but I know county lines changed back then and wonder if maybe they really were in Newton County and not Carroll (since we can find NOTHING on either of them.
I'm also wondering if you can tell me whether or not there were death records kept at that time in Newton County..?

I am looking for info on my gr grandfather Abraham Lincoln Henderson, b.1861, the son of Robert Henderson, b.1836 and his mother was Lydia California Scott. He came to Newton Co. from Morgan Co, Tn .While in TN he was with a lady named Sarah Laymance for about 8 years and they had 2 children out of wedlock, my grandmother Lucy Laymance, and her brother Charles Laymance. Link came to Newton Co, ARkansas and I believe he got married and had more children. James Elijah Henderson Jr, b 1860 is also in my line. Can anyone help me with this Henderson family?

Andrew Jackson Bowen,(my g-g grandfather) born 1 June 1821 in Jackson Co., TN; died 26 Sept 1898 in Taney Co., MO, buried at Mt. Grove Cemetery in Taney Co., MO. I believe he is listed as Allen J. Boan in 1850 Jackson Twp. Newton Co. census (can't prove yet), family stories say he was Newton co. sheriff, he was also postmaster at Mt. Parthenon during mid 1850's. He married Martha Lindsey abt 1847 in Newton co., she was born abt 1825 in TN; and died abt 1860 in Neosho, Newton Co., MO.
William "Carroll" Bo(w)en born 16 Oct 1828 in TN, and died 16 June 1906 in Stanislaus Co., CA, buried at Citizens Cemetery of Modesto. He migrated to CA in abt 1859 with brother John Frederick "Fed", he is one of Stanislaus Co., early pioneers, he married Nancy May Harp, daughter of Sampson Harp and Deborah Grace.
James Frederick Bowen was born abt 1831 in TN; and died 19 Nov 1873 in Santa Cruz Co., CA, he married Nancy Holt, daughter of James Simpson Holt and Elizabeth Fortner.
I have a family file with more detail if you're interested?
Most early records spell the family name Boen, but Andrew's tombstone and later records spell his name Bowen, while Carroll's tombstone spells his name Boen, go figure.
Any info on these particular families, or of any unknown brothers or sisters would be greatly appreciated!
