I have been looking for years for information about John Curry, my 3rd Great Grandfather. He was married to Cynthia Pratt, daughter of Jacob Pratt. John and Cynthia lived in Clarion County as recorded in the 1850 US Census. I wish could find other records. Family members from older generations claim that John is from Ireland, but it is possible that his father immigrated from Ireland instead. His birth year is approximately 1871 according to records. Does anyone else have any idea where else I can look?

While visiting the local cemeteries on Memorial Day I noticed a tomb-stone close to my great uncles grave. The marker is about five feet tall and has the following inscription: General A.P. Curry born July 8, 1834, died June 9, 1901. There are crossed swords above the inscription.
The cemetery is Fairmont Memorial Cemetery in Spokane, WA. In checking with the cemetery office I found the following: Amos P. Curry was removed from lot 21, row b-4 in 1919 to his present location.
In checking Rootsweb I found that Amos P. Curry was Senior Vice Commander for the Dept. of Washington Territory and a participant at the 1886 Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, held that year in San Francisco.
Amos was born in Maine and his father,Richard, is supposedly from Nova Scotia. The family line originated in Ireland.
I am interested in finding out more about General Amos P. Curry, his family, and how he ended up being buried in Spokane WA.

Earliest known ancestor and state? Joseph Curry, Glasgow, Scotland
Comments:
I am a direct descendent of Joseph Curry born 1715 in Glasgow, Scotland. He and his sons immigrated to South Carolina in about the 1750's where they had a farm. They were British Loyalists during the American Revolution and after the war they were rewarded by King George with land in the Bahamas, specifically settling on Green Turtle Cay. In about the early 1830's some of the Curry's moved to Key West, Florida. It is from these Curry's that I am descended. I would be very interested in talking to anyone with any genealogy information on this branch of the Curry family, especially more specific information of the origins in Scotland. Thanks
