Martha first appears in the census as an independent woman in 1830 - apparently a widow. She was born between 1790-1800, it appears. In 1850 she is living with Elizabeth & William in Morgantown. There is some movement between Morgantown and Dellslow. She was there early so I thought there was the possiblity that there was some relationship to one of the early McKimmy families in the area? Another possiblity is that she married a brother of Luke McKinney and moved to the same area from either Jefferson or Hampshire counties? We are just grasping at straws at the present time trying to connect Samuel McKinney (born 1820)to some existing family in the area. He doesn't appear in the 1850 or 1860 census at all but by 1870 he is married to Lydia Collins from Preston with several children that appear to be born before he was married to her. All this info is from census and Samuels claim for military disability. Thanks for your response.
By the way, the youngest son of Luke McKinney, William, moved west and ended his long life out in Kansas. In one of the final census records in which he appears, his name is spelled McKimmey!

I am researching my McKimmy family from Preston County WV. James McKimmy first apprears in 1835 land purchases in Preston County. To my knowledge we are not related to Luke McKinney's family. (if any Male descendent of Luke McKinney is interested in a DNA test we have them at this website!!!) The only other McKinney information I have other than Luke's family is a newspaper article in the Preston County News dated December 14, 1991. "James W. McKimmy Co. F, 3rd WVA inf. Although James & Mary Wilt McKimmy had a son by the name of James W., I am convinced this is a different mand and suspect his parents were John and Ellen Sullivan McKinney of Monongalia County. He was eighteen at the time of enlistment and was five feet ten inches tall. He enlisted on October 6, 1862 at Morgantown and was discharged on November 13, 1868 and eventually lived in Hamilton Iowa." end of article. I researched Hamilton Iowa and found that John W. McKinney of Company F, 6th W. VA Cav. died and is buried in Webster City Cemetery. I always thought it was odd that the writer of the column wrote James W. McKimmy and not McKinney. McKinney is the most common misspelling of McKimmy!!
By the way, where did you get your information regarding Martha McKinney??

I was wondering if any of you contributers may have information on a Martha McKinney that first appears in Monongalia/Preston areas from 1830-thru 1879. In onc census she is called Patty. Her husband died probably right around 1830 as she is alone with several children and another adult female. One daughter is named Elizabeth and a son William. There is possibly another Son, Samuel born in 1820. There may be some relationship to the Luke McKinney clan as they appear to move in the same circles. There also may be a connection to the name Gidley. Is it possible the name was originally McKimmey? Thanks for any info.

My line is Francis McKimmey(d abt 1822 in Loudoun Co, Va) to his son John McKimmey who m Sarah Thornton, aka Walters to their daughter, Mary C (Molly) McKimmey who m my grgrandfather Edward L Titus (after his death, she m a Shoemaker) all in Loudoun Co, Va. Mary C Mckimmey Titus Shoemaker is buried in Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Va with her second husband. Beside them is her son, my grandparents, Thornton Brown and Lula may Titus Titus.
I do not know the parents of this Francis Mckimmey who d around 1822.

Born in Saginaw, March 4, 1918, he was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear for 33 years until retiring in 1974. Mr. Cottrell was married to the former Betty Hasell and she preceded him in death in 1970. He then married Delores Bundshuh Short. Dec. 11, 1971.

Regarding Kiser and McKimmey... All, I can offer is: I have a Fay Keiser who married a Hurley E. McKimmy. Might be recorded as: McKimmey or McKinney? I'm not 100% sure on Fay (Keiser) McKimmy Maiden name? Though, they might have some connection with Indiana?
I don't have any information on Descendants of Lindley McKimmey. Though, would be very interested seeing this line! Lindley McKimmey descendants might be related to the McKimmey's of: Londoun County, VA McKimmey's. Yet! someday (we) are hoping to Merge with this Clan of McKimmey's also.

I am glad I found you, and am hoping I can find my greatgrandmother.
All I know so far is that my grandmother was born in Huntington, Indiana in 1895 and her father was a Kiser(sp), and her mother was a McKimmey.
I have found a marriage between Oscar D. Kiser and Alfa Retta (Alferetti) McKimmey on 21 May 1884.
However, the Descendants of Lindley McKimmey don't mention my grandmother as Oscar and Alfa's child...but they also don't mention all of Alfa's brothers and sisters.
My grandmother was born est. 18 July, 1895 and supposedly her mother died within 5 years and her father left town. This may be wrong, but that's the current story.
She was born Henrietta Georgetta Kiser (sp), and then became Edyth Marie Essenpreis, and then married and became Edyth Marie Marty....then Edyth Gaines Marty.

Hello, I am a McKemey, there are a few of us around. I am English, we have several relatives in America, one family in Australia and a few in England. I'm told we were part of the Scottish Fraser clan before moving to Ireland. My grandfather was one of 14. I am told I am directly related to the founder of the American Presbitarian church (Francis 'McKemie', at least that's how its spelt on his statue in Philly or somewhere). No doubt I spelt Presnitarian wrong!

Just wanted to brief everyone on some updates (we) are finding! We have found (our) James McKimmy listed in the Maryland Wills Book by: Joan Hume 1970. So, now we know he passed away sometime in December 1872 in Allegany or Garrett County, MD. We are hoping to get his Will & Obituary soon. Also, it looks like (we) will soon Merge with the Loudoun County, Virginia McKimmey's & the McKimmie information on a Dr. George William McKimmie & his wife Martha Ann Mason McKimmie. My father, George Robert McKamey left Kingman, Kansas around 1929, at age 13, and moved to Tacoma, Washington. He traveled with his mother, Rachel (Schrantz)McKamey and her sister. G. R. McKamey had one sister, Josephine, who was about two years older than him. His father was killed in an accident months before or just after his birth. His father's name I believe was Joseph Robert McKamey, a doctor in Kingman, Kansas. I do not know anything before this time period, but believe that we are part of a large group, with ties to the Fraser or Stuart Clans. I am one of six children, and I was born in 1951.

Update: I know! I promised to mail you a set of these obituaries. Though, (I) made contact with the State of Virginia Foundation/Archives and they have accepted (our) McKimmy's for Preservation & to Share this material with other McK' Researcher's. Once they receive (my) Signed letter of Gift of Donated Material. Which, is in the mail this eary morning. After they receive the sign letter. They will formally present it and they will be busy indexing all the material. I've submitted over 100 McKimmy Obituaries and can't wait for people like yourself seeing this material. Tom

Note: I think! I have a pretty good idea now. On how we are all connected. I'm 99.9% sure we all descend from James McKimmy and Jean (Fraser) McKimmy of Rathen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Who married Dec 2, 1742 had at least 7 children. The first son James McKimmy born Abt 1745 lineage seems to have kept the Surname as: McKimmy. While the second son William father of: Nathaniel McKimmey seems to have kept the surname as: McKimmey up til, the migration flowed in VA/WV and the Exodus into Indiana to avoid Salvery.
My cousin, & I have been very productive lately! We've been getting some old McKimmy & McKimmey Genealogy Books off the OCLC FIRST SEARCH. Available at your local library. Their's a Miller Family History Book by: Author's Donald & Ruth Rhinehart that, just seems to fit everything together. {Would love to see Jennifer's Research on the McKemie name}. I'm tracing Descendants of James McKimmy & Jean Fraser of Rathen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland & am busy trying to connect this couple to: Our James & Mary (Wilt) McKimmy of Preston County, West Virginia.
Note: I know the correct spelling of (our) Surname which, is spelled McKimmy. But, have found lot's of variants used. Preston County 1850 Census shows James as: McKinny, 1860 shows James as: McKinney then, in 1880 Federal Census James & Mary (Wilt) McKimmy son Marion was listed as: McKimmey as well as: Francis McKimmy AKA. Francis McKinney {Civil War Pension file} Census shows him as: Francis McKimmey.
McKimmy's, I can explain away some of the confusion. Why Francis McKimmy Surname was being spelled incorrectly. But, still finding lot's more mistakes in Marion McKimmy's Civil War Pension file! We were at one time McCamie's (unsure of the spelling). According to family history told we are from the Scot-Black Irish line. Our family came to America during the potato war in Ireland. The patriarch was killed before sailing but his wife and their two children boarded and she became a handmaiden to one of the women aboard the ship to pay for passage for her and the two children. Upon arrival in America she changed her name to McKemy supposedly because it sounded more American. We settled in Pennsylvania for a while and later moved to West Virginia.

old aunt ( who still works and drives), gave copies of
family research done in the 1920's, by some Texas McCamy's.
Have several cousins in Fl, Va, & Ohio, that much more
involved and knowledgeable that I. Have copies of letters,
from the McCamy's in Tn, Ga, Tx.
My grandmother was Mary E. McCamy, of Dalton, Ga., married
Charles L. Russell, (1869-1935) of Whitfield Co., Ga.

Thank you for the information as well as the easily negotiated website. My great-grandmother was Jane Pearson who married Henry Archibald Rutland (she died in 1930; he died in 1928). As far as I know, they were born, lived, and died in the Forks of old Orangeburg county. Her mother's name was Emeline Pearson b 1822, d 1890.
