As far as I know my Moreland family were from Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA. My father was George Frederick Moreland, Jr. His father was George Frederick Moreland (1887 - 1918(?).) married Clara S. Bohn. I think Theodore C. (or E.) Moreland (1843) could be my great grandfather.

I am black. So I am assuming that some Morelands were slaveholders since freed blacks often took the name of their owners.
My grandfather, Newton Moreland was from Carroll County, Georgia, where my father James was born. My parents moved to Ohio after World War II where I was born. I am currently an attorney living in New York City.

I have documented back to one Henry Moreland born 1795-1800 married Mary Polly Smith b. 1801 in Hardy county, Moorefield,Va..My line migrated to Maryland in the late 1800s and my Granfather to Ohio in 1909. Searching for anyone who thinks they are even remotely related to a Vincent Moreland (b. abt. 1832, Arkansas) and his wife, Lucinda Golightly (b. abt. 1836, Illinois). Known sons of the couple are: John W. (b. 1857), George Jefferson (b. 1860), James Golightly (b. 1865) and Thomas H. (b. 1870). All three sons migrated from Arkansas to Texas in early 1880's. There seems to be many gaps in the generations from The first Thomas Moreland to arrive in 1621 and Isaac William Moreland who moved to Putnam Co. GA. I have photo copy of one of the Moreland Family Bibles. Would be delighted to share. It begins with Joseph Tucker and his wife Martha H (Trippe) and goes thru their grandchildren in LA. Isaac W. My g-g-g-grandmother was Elizabeth Moreland b. 1795 in Shenandoah Co., Va. She married William Maddox (looking for date and place) then died 4/27/1855 in Trimble Co., Ky. There is actually a death certificate for her, believe it or not! Her parents were William and Priscilla Boswell Moreland of Charles Co., MD. Wm. was b. 1766 and died 10/16/1826 in Oldham Co., KY. His parents were Walter and Tabitha Dent Moreland of Charles/Prince George's Co., MD.
Looking especially for information about Walter Moreland, Jr., son of Walter and Tabitha. He is in the 1860 Trimble Co., KY census, age 92, which would put his birth about 1768. He probably had a son, Walter A. Moreland who married Kitty Floyd then died ca 1838 in Trimble Co., Ky. I'd like to know where Walter, Jr., was prior to age 92 and more info about the rest of his family.

My Moreland link is through my great-grandmother Mary E. C. Moreland whom married G. W. Hall abt. 1870. They lived in Calhoun Co., then Clay Co. AL until his death and for a few years thereafter, then she moved with you youngest son to Jackson Co. AL where she died. I am trying to figure out who her father was? The census records show that her father was born in TN and her mother VA. Maybe we are linked together?

My GreatGrand Father, William H. Moreland, was born in the
1850's in Georgia. I don't know anything else earlier on the Moreland's. His son, Robert Hickman Moreland, was my Grand Father, sometime the family moved to Oklahoma. There is a Cherokee connection, I am 1/32 Cherokee, as my Great Grand Mother, Ella Wofford-Moreland was part Cherokee.
