I'm related to Leo Garcia through my great aunts Rosa Garcia (Puignau) and Candita Puignau. Do you have any information on these individuals? I was just in Tampa and was not able to find the graves that are pictured online. Do you have some sort of map of the cemetery? I'm sure I have other relatives buried there.

Hello all,
I am sending out a request to all cousins who might own photos of my Fernandez family line and would be so kind to share. I do not have any photos of Esteban Fernandez h/o Juana Pazo. Any photos of Pazo line would also be appreciated I will be more than happy to either keep them private or post them on the web with your name as submitter.
Sincerely

Hi Bushy,

Happy 4th of July. This holiday always reminds me not only of the American War for Independence, but also of the Cuban Wars for Independence - the 10 Years War and the 1895-1898 Cuban Revolution. OUr only hope is that Cuba will have independence again very soon.

Best wishes and am longing to return to Key West again.
I had an e-mail from the Sexton of Key West City Cemetery about a month ago. I am going to write him about some of my Barranco and Fernandez ancestors buried there.

Saludos,

Stephen

You have a very thorough site. My family took the same migration route from Cuba->Key West->Tampa. I actually found pictures of my g-g-grandparents (Jose Alejandro Moreno y Castillo and Asencion Ramos y Moreno) headstones in your Key West cemetery section. I've been to the cemetery many many times and never knew they were there. My mom (Nancy Moreno Frazier) had never seen them either as our main family plot is elsewhere in the cemetery. I can tell you that the Mary P. Hernandez in the cemetery pictures is my great aunt. She was born Marina Moreno. You have a lot of documentation. Did you get most of it from the Monroe County courthouse? Do you know what date ranges they have records available (marriage/birth/death). I have several for my family that I'd like to get.

Thanks-
James Frazier

I forgot to mention that Jose Salgado was living next door to a Marcelino DIAZ. I suspect a connection because Jose Salgado had a son named Marcelino Salgado (masalino on the 1880 census).

thanks again,

I am glad to find your website! My wife's great-great grandparents were Salumio PEREZ born about 1841 in Cuba and his wife Luz PEREZ born about 1840 in Cuba. They were in Key West by the time of the 1880 census. Their daughter Rosa PEREZ was born Jan 24, 1878 in Cuba. She married Mateo SALGADO probably in Key West about 1897-1901. I don't have access to the 1900, 1910 or 1920 censuses, so I'm not sure where they were then. I suspect either in Key West, Tampa, or Miami. Mateo Salgado was born 1873 in Key West and was the son of Jose Salgado and Rosario Pedrero Salgado. It seems that all the Salgado's in Key West are probably descendants of Jose.
We've been racking our brains trying to find information on her family there.

Mateo's and Rosa's daughter Aida Salgado was born 29 June 1902, possibly Tampa or Key West. She married Armando TORANO-Ortiz about 1920. They were in Miami by the 1940's, as Armando operated a barber shop on Flagler Street there until his death in 1975. Rosa Perez Salgado died in Miami in July 1970. Aida Salgado Torano died Jan 4, 1978 in Miami.

I would greatly appreciate any information you may have on my wife's Perez (and possibly Salgado)ancestors.

Thank you!

Abe Sawyer (the "small" person)who is mentioned in one of your cemetery pages was kin of mine.

I just came across with you Fernandez Family Web page because I have Fernandez in my familiar branch who emigrated from Spain to Cuba, and from Cuba to Tampa, too, between 1915-1920. One of my uncle-grandfather, died in Tampa in the 1920΄s, but nothing in our family know more news about Jose Fernandez Perez, who born in Ortigueira, Galicia and died there. Thank you for sharing your family data base.

Hi, I just came across with you web page on the Fernandez family and to my surprise I found that must of the names in your index are the same as mine, however, some of the people listed as born in Cuba, actually were born in Spain (in my family tree). I was just wondering if this is a coincidence. Thanks for sharing
