I am eldest son of John James Desmond who's father and my G.father came from Cork Ireland before the 2nd world war. my G father served with the Royal Irish Hussards during the 1st World war. My G.mother was born in Queenstown, Ireland She was in service to a English family who moved from Ireland to London and my G Father followed because he loved my G.Mother. They lived in West London( Notting Hill). My father was evacuated out of London during the bliz and was moved to Buckden, Huntingdonshire, 60 miles north of London. Desmond's still going strong!!

My Great Grand Mother was Ivy Desmond born in Leinster or Cork, on the 11 June 1883. In 1902 she met and married Nicholas John Smith (a South African studying in London, where they married) She moved to South Africa in 1903, where they had four children Ivy, Desmond, Nerine and Eugene Desmond-Smith. My grand father was Desmond Nicholas Desmond-Smith(1907-c1986), and my mother is Elizabeth Ivy Antoinette Desmond-Smith (b1934.) My grandmother, Mary Desmond, b. 1981 near Timoleague, Cork, Ireland came to the US in 1906. She had nine siblings, Ellen, Patrick, Nora, Margaret, Rita, Jack, Timothy, Cornelius, and Kate. Mother, possible Anne (or Margaret Harrington). Father, Cornelius (or Patrick). No other info from Cork.

I am trying to research a great-grandfather: Joseph Reuel Patrick Desmond Sarfield O'neil Wheeler He may have been born in 1893 in Kansas or Kentucky One of my uncles remembers stories he told about moving to Oregon as a child (sometime before he was ten) and various other tales about being in the army,having to "cross the border"(state,country...?) and a sister (Roseilee,Roseanna,Rosilyn...?). This is the great-great granddaughter of Timothy E Desmond again that is listed in the family history. I just wanted to add a fact. Timothy was a polyigamist in Utah and left my great-grandmother to be with another wife. I also have heard stories from my father that his father, Leslie Conrad Desmond, told him that the last time he saw his father,Timothy, was when he took off after the police came searching for him. He said he remembered being told to hide when he was about 7 years old. I have his other wife listed as Martha Ann Brocklehurst. My Great-Grandfather was Timothy E Desmond and I am trying to solve the family mystery as to where my great-grandfather went to after he left my great-grandmother in 1907. I'd really like to explore the Desmond family genealogy. I'm the daughter of William Thomas Desmond Jr. of Lynchburg, Virginia. He was born of William Thomas Desmond Sr. and Elizabeth Bowling Desmond. He has two sisters, one younger who is deceased, Mary Cecelia Desmond (married name is Schaefer) of Loudon County, Virginia, and one living, Elizabeth Desmond Manning of St. Paul, Minnesota.

My great great grandmother was Johanna(Joannah) Desmond, born abt 1832 in Ireland. She married a Benjamin Barnum about 1852/51 and they had several children: Jane 1852 NY,
Ellen 1855 NY, Mary 1859 NY, Alice 1862 IL, Clara 1867 IL and Benjamin 1869 IL. In 1870, Johanna, Clara and Benjamin died within a month of each other - in Livingston Co, IL. Nothing else is known about the family. Benjamin not found in any records either.

Michael Joseph and Catherine O'Callaghan were my 3X great-grandparents. I notice that the family tree doesn't list any of the descendants of my grandfather (John Rodney Desmond) and I can provide some information/names/dates if it's needed. For tracking purposes, his parents were Michael James Desmond & Annette Parr and his grandparents were Michael Henry Desmond and Emma Robertshaw.

I descend from Honora Desmond (b.1820 Probably Co. Cork) who married William Cotter (b.1818 Co. Cork). Children were James (b.1847) and Margaret Ellen (b.1849 my ancestor). They are found in the 1850 Mason Co, Ky. census living next door to Timothy Desmond Jr. (b.1822) with wife Catherine, and Timothy Desmond Sr. (b. 1781-1788 hard to read the numbers on the census). Are there any Desmonds out there of mixed Irish and African-Canadian heritage? My great-grandfather, William Augustus Desmond, was from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and all I know of his heritage is that he was half Irish and half Black. He moved to the Boston area as a young man, and was also a merchant marine. As a child, I was told by great-gramps and great-grandma, Doris Blackwell-Desmond, that they had visited Nova Scotia on a few occasions, and that we had many "cousins" there of all races, colors and hues. My grandfather, Jeremiah Desmond was born in Brockton, Massachusetts sometime in the late 1880s early 1890s. He was a WWI veteran gassed and wounded in battle. He passed in 1965 I believe. My mother, Geraldine (Desmond) Hamilton was born in Brockton in 1922, lived most of her life in West Bridgewater and passed in 1995. My aunt Arline (Desmond) Sheehan is still alive and living in Farmington Connecticut.

I trace my ancestry to Patrick and Margret (Dugan) Desmond who were born in Ireland in 1831 and 1837 respectively and lived in North Lawrence, NY at the time of the 1870 census.
They had four children: Timothy, born 1864, John (my grandfather), born 1866, Daniel, born 1867, and Mary, born 1869. I would love to trace the family back to Ireland, but the only clue I have is family Lore that Patrick was from Doublin and Margaret was from Belfast.

I have posted previously, just wanted to include a little more info this time around. My grandfather was Felix Desmond and his wife Hildigard Desmond (she was a German War Bride), they had several children, Edward Desmond, John Desmond (my father), Steven Desmond, Alfred Desmond, Jim Desmond, Gabrielle Desmond, Cheryl Desmond, and 2 other children, one of which was Cheryl's Twin Brother.

Jame had a good friend while in grammar school, Mary Catherine Desmond. When he returned from the Navy after the War, she tutored him so that he could get his GED certificate. This was a very important event in his life as it enabled him to go forward with his education and accomplish all the things you know he has done. He would like very much to locate her and tell her how much he appreciates what she did. But, he only knows that she became a nun about 1947. He does not know what order she joined or where she went after that. Is there any way to find a person with only this information? She was member of the Divine Savior Church in north Los Angeles before becoming a nun. He would really appreciate any help you can give him.

I am William Patrick, born in 1958 in Utica, New York. My father, Joseph Francis, was born in Chicago in 1923. His father, also Joseph Francis, was the son of one of four Desmond brothers that emigrated from Ireland; my dad believes the brothers came to America around 1870. They stopped in Chicago for a short time, then traveled west to California. Two of the Desmonds were Cornelius and Joseph; the names of the other two are unknown. Cornelius returned to Chicago; he was my greatgrandfather and my father believes he died around 1920. (I have also found information about a death of a Cornelius Desmond in 1905 in Chicago.) Cornelius wed a Mary McCarty from County Cork, date unknown. Cornelius had four children: Joseph Francis (my greatgrandfather), William Patrick, Andrew, and Marie. We know that Marie married around 1938.
Joseph went to the Portland, Oregon area and was a successful businessman, owning among other ventures a car dealership. I have found information about some Desmonds in Lane County, Oregon, and a Timothy Desmond who married a Bertha McBride in 1908 in Multnoma County (Portland), Oregon.

Great site! According to the family lore my great great grandfather is a Daniel Desmond right off the boat from Ireland, from the county Cork area. I am trying to trace my family back to Ireland, so far without much success. My great grandparents, Patrick and Margaret (Dugan) Desmond lived in North Lawrence, NY at the time of the 1870 census with their four children; Timothy, John (my grandfather, 1865 - 1937),Danial and Mary. My grandfather married Catherine Theresa Kelley in Canton, NY in 1892 and had six children; Hugh,John Leo (my father, 1903 - 1997),Lawrence, Joseph, Paul and Margaret, before moving to the Boston area in about 1914.
I have recently heard that Patrick Desmond had at least two brothers; John and Edmund as well as a sister who were all born in Ireland and all lived in the same area of up state New York. Their parents (my great great grandparents) were John Desmond (a popular name in the Desmond clan)and Elizabeth Connoley. I would love to know where they came from in Ireland and whether the parents ever emigrated or remained in Ireland.

I am recommencing researching the Western Australian Desmond's and seeing if we can get it back to the roots of Denis Desmond who emigrated here in the Success in 1842.

Hi. Does anyone out there know how the desmond name came about. Was it after the flight of earls in 1607? Or was it more generally applied to anyone from the south munster area. I am wondering because after I went back into education, I stumbled across the vast, largely forgotten, filidh poet and bardic school area of Irish history and have become fascinated by it. This was a profession handed down from father to son and I am trying to trace myself back in order to see if I can make a direct connection with one of these poets. Does anyone know the name of the Earl of Desmond's poets? I'm assuming that any of the relatives of the ruling desmonds left behind after 1607 would have been absorbed into the peasantry.

My name is Thomas Desmond. I come orignally from New Jersey, as did my father, Joseph. Little is known about his father, but his name was also Joseph Desmond, he was a swimmer, and was born in New York. My grandfather left my father's house when my father was very young (5 or so) and apparently (from a investigation done by a private detective) went across the country and had several (4 or more) other families until his death in Spring Hill, Florida on august 19th, 1993.
My grandfather is as far back as I can seem to trace, although my father vaguely remembers something about our family being from Cork, KilKenny, or Kildare.
I now live around Detroit, MI.
That's my saga thus far.

My great great grandmother, Mary Desmond(1820-1905), married Richard Bustin(1822-1904) in Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania in 1851. Her sister, Ellen Desmond(1824-1907) married Richard's brother Dennis Bustin(1826-1908) soon after in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Both Mary and Ellen Desmond were from County Cork though I do not as yet know their Parish or townland. They lived their entire lives following their arrivals in America in Bradford County Pennsylvania. The Bustin family was from The Parish of Kilmichael in County Cork. Mary and Ellen Desmond's parents were James Desmond and Anna(Nancy) O'Brien Desmond. I assume the family arrived in America together in the late 1840s. I believe that there were other siblings.

I am reasonably sure that Jeremiah Desmond Crew was my 3rd great grandfather. He was living in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1814 when he married R.(Rosina? probably) Harvey. Rosina was from ISLE OF WIGHT. They were married by a St. Paul's Anglican church minister. Jeremiah was an inn keeper. Since the middle name DESMOND is unusual, perhaps Jeremiah was given a family name for his middle name.
