I am searching for any information on Duke Lane (who changed his name to James Jones) and Mittie Dickerson (maiden name Coley and who also changed her name, to Mittie Jones). The story is that they were both married with families and living in Fremont NC. Mittie had several children at the time. Some of their names were: Fannie Dickerson, Hackney Dickerson, George Dickerson. Duke had children also. He had a daughter named Marindy (sp?) Lane. Mittie and James had an affair, Mittie became pregnant and they both left their respective families and moved to Pitt County NC (Simpson or Greenville). I can find them on the 1910 census for Pitt County (Chicod Township), but I can't find anything linking them to Fremont. Anyone ever hear of this story? Any suggestions??? Any suggestions on how to find out where they are burried??

Name Thompson Richardson
Comments:
My great grandfather is William M Thompson, b~1875, "from the Goldsboro area". I am trying to find further evidence that his parents are John R and Evaline (Richardson) Thompson. They appear in the 1880 census in Fork River, Wayne Co. and John R is listed as a physician. Before that, they are listed in Johnston Co, east of the Neuse River and John R is listed as a farmer. My grandfather always said that his grandfather was a landowner and served as a surgeon in the Civil War but I can't find any surgeons named Thompson on NC rosters who have a son named William in the 1880 census in the Goldsboro area. The family would also have a son named John, close to William in age and also several daughters. Again, John R and Evaline fit the bill. The only catch is the birth date listed for their William in the 1880 census- 1870, too early. I'm hoping that it was just mistranscribed. Does anyone know any more about this family?
Thank you.

I find many African American/mulatto families in Goldsboro.
Is there a specific site for the same?
I am hoping to find a link to my WEELDON/WHILDEN/WILDEN
ancestors who descend from WILLIAM LAWRENCE WEELDON, black, b.1829 SC, who married CHARATA BROWN, mulatto, b. 1833 NC.
I believe the families to be linked to NATIVE AMERICANS.
Most sincerely,
carol wheeldin warren.

Recently purchased a home located on 108 Glenwood Trail Goldsboro, NC. Door knocker reads BWD; I believe this home was built by Ben W. Daniels Sr.(Daniels Construction Co. ?) in 1920, he would have been 34 I think, I believe he died in the home in 1972, but this is unclear from the records. Have heard from past owner the home was located where Pizza Hut now stands. I am looking for photos from the Daniels family or someone with a street scene of Ash Street.

There is no "o" in the second syllable of EDMUND. Keep up the good work, but get great granddaddy's name right.

Name PAGE/LAWTON/ODEN
Comments:
Looking for the following:

John Page was born in Wayne County, NC in 1798. Parents: John and Lovey Davis Page. They moved to Williamson County, TN in 1801.

My Walter Joseph Lawton is shown in the household of Mrs. John Page, and is listed as a grandson, age 12 (age not right - should be 16), born in Ky, his father born in Ga, in the 1880 Williamson County, TN census. I don't yet know exactly what Page Joe is connected to. I am trying to make this Page/Lawton connection.

Walter Joseph (my Joe) and Sarah Alice Lawton moved to Louisiana from Williamson County, Tennessee after Sarah Alice Oden married Walter Joseph Lawton in 1890. Walter's uncle, Walter W. Page had given the newlyweds a track of land in Greenwood, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, as a wedding present. John Page owned several plantations in Louisiana and split his time between Louisiana and Tennessee. The Oden family went to Louisiana to visit the couple on their farm late in 1891. During their visit, Thomas Hardeman Oden (Sarah's father) became ill and died January 25, 1892. The family never returned to Tennessee.

Father: Walter Joseph "Joe" Lawton, b. 1867 Williamson Co., TN, died in Greenwood, Louisiana
Mother: Sarah Alice Oden, born 1872, Franklin, Tennessee, d. 1953 Greenwood, Louisiana
They were married in Franklin Tennessee 1890
Children:
Web Page Lawton, Walter Lawton, Solomon "SO" Lawton, and Alton Lawton

Any help on this family would be appreciated.

Tracing my ancestors, spec Thomas SCOTT. A Thomas Scott
shows up in the Wayne land deeds, Book 12 1779-1784, also
in 1786 Wayne Tax list, and 1790 NC census. Can find no later reference in the NC Census, 1800,1810, & 1820. A Thomas Scott does show up later in Liberty(now Marion)County SC census ie 1800, 1810 with what appears to be
similar demographics, 3 children, 1 wife, no slaves. Anyone researching SCOTTs or other surnames in Wayne that can offer any information is appreciated.
