Name: Karyn Hahn <stardancer1965@yahoo.com> Date: 2009-09-27 Which Family Sketch subject are you related to? George M and Philip Studer/Studor Comments:
I just added some info; now I have a question: Does anyone have any information on Philip's son, Ray Evans Studor (1884-1959) who married Florence Gross in Ontario, Canada. He had two daughters, but do not know their names. He died is Quebec and is buried in Canada. Ray's sister, Mabel, was married, but had no children. His sister, Frances Anita, never married. So, Ray's two daughers are the only descendants of that family.

Name: William Gorman U.E. <Bill@LOOKinHERE.net> Date: 2005-02-19 Which Family Sketch subject are you related to? Rogers, Gorman, Mead, Hinman Comments:
The page http://home.comcast.net/~richardson156/rogerspv.html reports that Publius V. Rogers is a descendant of Capt James Rogers, which is not true. Capt James Rogers descendants of that time all lived in Canada see http://Rogers.LOOKinHERE.net/ Besides Daniel E. Wager's story also claims Puplius V. Rogers is descended from the pilgrim, Thomas Rogers, of who Capt James Rogers is not descended. Capt James Rogers came from Ireland in 1729 as a child with his parents James and Mary Rogers. Captain James Rogers was raised in Dunbarton, NH and moved to Londonderry, VT where he owned 23,000 acres at that time known as Kent which was granted by the governor of NY. Because he was a Tory he removed to Fredericksburg, Ontario after the War of Independence. His son James and daughter Margaret sold his land in Vermont after his death.
Publius V. Rogers is more likely descended from the other James Rogers (2nd James) of Londonderry who’s wife was Jean. Many people get this James Rogers confused with Capt. James Rogers father James. Capt. James Rogers had married Margaret McGregor of Londonderry, NH which is probably where all the confusion comes from. His Family never actually lived in Londonderry, VT, but did own land there held by the McGregors.
I am descended from 3 James Rogers who are my 4th, 5th (Capt James Rogers) and 6th great grandfathers. Capt. James Rogers died in 1790 in Fredericksburg, Ontario as a Colonel and is a famous Canadian United Empire Loyalist. Capt James Rogers had 3 sons, a David who died at age 4 then James and a 2nd David who both died in Grafton, Canada. A great granddaughter of James Rogers, Mary Allen Rogers married Christopher Darius Gorman who was born June 30, 1846 in Utica. Christopher was the son of John Gorman and Esther Mead who were married in Rome on March 14, 1846. The gamily moved to Pierce County, Wisconsin in the early 1850’s. In the Civil War, C.D. Gorman played the fife with Mary Allen’s brother Timothy Rogers, who played the drum. They were both wounded in the Red River Campaign in Louisiana and returned to Wisconsin.
Mary Allen Rogers came from a family of 17 children, her parents were David Rogers and Eliza Hinman, who’s Hinman family had migrated to Grafton, Ontario from Pompey Hollow near Syracuse in 1799. David Rogers is a son of James Rogers and Grandson of Capt. James Rogers who’s brother was the famous Maj. Robert Rogers, leader of Rogers’ Rangers, depicted in the Spencer Tracy movie “Northwest Passageö.

My husband's ancestor, James Ayer Smith, was apprenticed to Horace Bigelow, a hatter, sometime before 1828. James was born in Paris, Oneida, NY, but took his family to Chicago in 1835 where he established a successful hat and cap manufacturing firm. Later, in the 1860s, he became part-owner of the North West Fur Association, and ran steamboats up the Missouri River to trade at the forts. James and his sons (who worked with him) lost most of their stock in the 1871 Chicago fire. James married Marcia Mahala Swetland of Waterville.
