Hi!
My grandfather's name in the Austrian Hungarian Empire (Hungarian part) was Csolak in Hungary CS was "CH". When they got to USA the name becamem CHOLAK, then to get the pronunciation right they tried CHOLOK and then finally to CHOLOCK (the "a" in Cholak they were no doubt trying to achieve the "a" sound as in father, more of an "au" sound to it, instead of as in the word "BACK"
INtersting your Cholak's are from yugoslovia, I have been noticing in researching people with this name that they appear to be scattered just about everywhere around the Carpathian Mountain area.
Feel free to email me. My family is in Pennsylvania, but I am living in St. Louis MO where I just found there were soem Csolak's here at one time.
I always kid wiht my cousin and say; "which came first? the Csolak or the Cholak?"

I enjoyed finding this site. I am the daughter of Mike Plaskon, whose parents were Mike and Susie Plaskon. His sister, Pauline, married John Kalich. (I do remember attending some great summer reunions at the Kalich homestead.)
I am putting together family tree for Plaskon side of the family. I would be interested in hearing from all family members of Pauline and John.
Thanks for keeping this site posted and for all the good information.
